I own a Touareg and it is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned, matched only by my other VW the Passat

I got a mercedes diesel that the injection pump died out of the blues last week some people have gotten 1,000,000 miles and even alot more (of course that wasn't on ULSD) but mine died at 330k miles and the pump cost more to rebuild than the cost of the car. Anyways only a month ago it was going strong so it all depends on your luck, maintenance and driving style. And I highly recommend now using a Sulfer Supplement in any diesel older than 2007

Actually one of the few SUVs I really like

Well, FYI, my friend has got a 25 year old VW LT with almost 2 million kilometers on it. And it's a diesel. The longivity of modern diesel engines is only limited by their turbos.

I really don't know about biodiesel I never actually tried it since its seemed like a hassle to make it and no body sells it locally. I thought you might be talking about biodiesel but I wasn't sure because you could have been from another country like Canada, U.K. , Austrailia etc. and been referring to a type of diesel they have.
@calboyincal13 жыл бұрын
@MultiDimcha what are you basing that on? you are wrong on all accounts.
@Reiberle15 жыл бұрын
White is definitely the wrong colour for an SUV :D it´s a nice car, but far to expensive for a VW. Less money i can get a porsche cayenne. And the disels of the cayenne,touareg and q7 are the same.
@calboyincal13 жыл бұрын
@MultiDimcha nope, i own a diesel, as do several of my friends and family. Jetta's, cummins, old mercedes. no problems whatsoever with them. I also have experience with them on ships as diesel generators running for hundreds of hours at a time under a load without stopping. If I did own a car repair service it certainly wouldn't focus on diesels modern or old. If you build enough of them, some idiot will find a way to break it but in general diesels are more reliable and longer lasting

hahaha, sorry dude I quoted the wrong person. I just read the whole conversation and my comment makes no sense here. I meant to reply to CSIS25 with his comment about diesel engines.

VW's Diesels are way better than Honda, or Nissan's are.

@cowmilky oh god why do stupid people come on you tube and piss me off. The only research I do on you tube is to watch reviews of new cars that I don't feel like going and test driving myself. As for 1 million mile gas car? I believe there are several mid 80's volvo's that have performed that trick. Sorry to whoever was driving them that long. People that come in here and know absolutely nothing about diesel, biodiesel, manufacturers of diesel engines, etc. just please shut up.

@buickboy92 the power of the v6 diesel is comparable to that of a v6 petrol... and the torque is almost double... comparable to that of a V8 petrol. and the passing power is relly good because of the high torque.

What did I ever say about ford diesel? And I was comparing the diesels to the gasoline counterparts. So don't change the argument. I'm sure a gasoline Honda is better than a diesel Honda. Same for Subaru. Also if I missed spelled a word or two I'm sure its better than your overall grammar. And going to auto auctions I've seen TDIs with 300k+ and the over all holds up very well so I don't know what your talking about My Mercedes diesel 339k before it quit and it held up great overall
@calboyincal15 жыл бұрын
1st of all, my ass doesn't make sense when it talks. 2nd, learn how to spell before you try to insult someones intelligence. 3rd, old Mercedes were reliable, but since the mid 1980's have not been as good (not the engines, the overall car). Although I will admit you are right about one thing, Fords diesels suck. I own a VW TDI which is reliable, but I would much prefer a Honda Accord diesel which hold up better overall.
@sidewayznut200915 жыл бұрын
We could argue all day but your talking out of your ass. TDI is known for reliability I'm defiantly no VW fan but they have EARNED a reputation for a reason. And Mercedes gasoline cars may or may not be as reliable as Japanese cars but diesels are light years ahead and more reliable. Mercedes has always been the most reliable diesels they are in nearly every country the number one in commercial trucks. So I would think its trickle down technology.
@sidewayznut200915 жыл бұрын
You can't say all diesels. Look at G.M. diesels they are total crap. BMW diesels are unreliable in comparison to their gas counterparts. Honda and Subaru have only started making diesels and I doubt they will be as reliable initially as the gasoline engines. Some companies still make better gasoline engines than diesel. Perhaps because they have more reason to spend on R&D Reguardless when it comes to VW or Mercedes I'd take diesel every time.
@sidewayznut200915 жыл бұрын
Well by turbos you mean they die quicker because they have a higher power output? Actually I know diesels can got well over a million miles but for most people thats not the case I was just stating whats common. Example my brother has a 91 chevy pickup with 300K+ miles and going strong and nothing has ever been changed in the truck (engine transmission rear diff interior etc.) just regular maintenance while the common is only around 200,000 miles. Also what did he replace on it?
@sidewayznut200915 жыл бұрын
CSIS25 Diesels tend to last longer but its not always the case. Of course I'm thinking of the older high poluter diesels that made low power. Only time will tell if the new diesels are made better. But on that note its not uncommon to see a VW diesel with near or over 300,000 miles but the gasoline VW bearly make it to 200,000+ before failer with the average driver. I'd think for a VW or Mercedes diesel better BMW gas is much better. Toyota + Nissan diesel better. etc.
@calboyincal15 жыл бұрын
We could argue all day, but the fact is that diesel engines are inherently more reliable than gasoline engines and last a lot longer. Another fact is that Japanese cars are much more reliable than German cars and even with a new engine, I would bet money that Subaru and Honda are more reliable than Mercedes or VW (Touareg is the least reliable car made today...)

You can't really compare the 10 and the 6, but if you were looking for blistering torque in your SUV, I miss the 10 too.

You should mention they actually have 97-99% better emissions than diesels of ten years ago.

yeah but there is a reason they're not around anymore - nobody wanted them.

I'm not a mechanic... Diesel engines work at lower RPMs so that could lead to longer life from less stress on the engine components. Also there are no spark plugs to replace. I know the newer diesels have some kind of special filter fluid that needs to be refilled once in a while, that's how they get those low emissions.
@UltraFighter1813 жыл бұрын
@buickboy92 on the high way the diesels are better why? well my diesel ca rich the max torque from 1500 rpm what does that mean? I get the full power of the car much faster than a petrol. Most petrol cars need to pass 3500rpm to get the maximum torque. So the diesels are better when it comes to passing even better than many petrol cars with more hp. Torque is very important when it comes to passing and diesels have a lot of it.

Infact everything electroncal was working and the seats were in good shape except the drivers that had a tear in it. Transmission was original so was all the suspension parts except shocks I can't think of anything that was bad on it. However the ULSD killed my injection pump because all the older injection pumps are made for fuel that has lubrication. If you have a TDI older than 2007 you should use sulfur substitute according to Volkswagen.

Im from Germany and had the chance to drive the R50 this summer. V10 TDI, 350hp and 850NM or about 630FT*LBF. Acceleration is really impressive for a 2.6 ton car (about 7 seconds to 60mph). Managed to get it to 237km/h or 147mph on the Autobahn.
@calboyincal13 жыл бұрын
@buickboy92 the difference is you don't have to floor it or downshift. push the pedal halfway and the torque smoothly propels you past the car. diesels are actually making more power and torque on average than a gas engine if you compare where people usually rev their cars. Max torque on a diesel is very accessible (2000 rpm average) where on a gas car it's high in the rpm range (6000). Go drive one and you'll understand, just don't expect it to be the same as gas.

You know what's hella weird?? I watched this video this morning and as I was driving home, I saw a V10 TDI! It was crazy!! Yeah, VW surprised me with some of these Touaregs. I thought VW only made somewhat sporty cars...but some of these are straight up monsters! :D
