READ BEFORE ATTEMPTING... you do not need to remove the black plastic in the housing. Simply unplug the bulb, then turn counterclockwise. The black plastic is removed after you have the bulb out.

Take the circular cap off. Twist the bulb counter clockwise pull it out and take off connector.

Thanks Jamal - great video! I have a 2009 Passat CC 2.0L TDI. The bulb is a HID D1S and has the integral igniter like the one in your Tiguan with the connector at the bottom. The cover is screw on/off hard plastic rather than the soft rubber cover you have shown above - everything else looks very similar. I know mechanics remove/replace this HID globe without removing the headlight assembly grille/bumper, but I just can't do it!!! The access is very cramped! I unscrew the cover, unclip the two wire clips holding the igniter/globe in place and then try to pull out the igniter/globe unit. I try to remove the connector but can't and maybe this has to be removed before the igniter/bulb can be pulled out? Hoping there is a how-to-do video somewhere?

This Video is complete garbage.... the plastic ring does not come off before bulb assembly, this guy literally wasted like 20 mins of my time, after plastic cover inside engine bay of the headlight is removed(its the rubber black cover) simply turn bulb assembly counter clock wise like 1/4 turn, disconnect the plug on the bulb an repeat in opposite order to install new headlight
