Heartwarming to see how this is treated as a cultural rite and part of its own community as opposed to a celebration worthy of recognition by the whole of society. Similar to wonderful Orange parades in County Donegal still held every July. A minority who deserve their annual moment to remember their proud history!

I should state that I saw this parade....on....the island in the middle of University Avenue;just south of College Street.(I was actually standing next the the flagpole which had the flag of the United Kingdom on it.[Of course,that specific flag--alongside six others--is on one of seven white flagpoles just south of College Street;to comm. the G7 event that happened in Toronto in June 1988.]) Not surprisingly,I had to make a brief-and-pleasant conversation with the two women in the parade (who were walking side by side & one was carrying the flag of the United Kingdom...and....the other was carrying the 1965 Canadian flag [of course,they walking before the men & women from the various lodges of the Orange Family in Brampton]) about how great it was to see (here in Toronto) the flag of the United Kingdom;on that day.....

It's always great to see the Canadian parades. Not too long ago. I got a nippy sweetie on Facebook. He said he loved living in Canada because there was no OO. (Only in a really nasty post.) I was as nice as I could be. Even when he blessed me in Latin? I think he was more surprised that I thanked him, then done the same only in English. The hate that some of these people aim at the Loyal orders, baffles me. A lot of it goes back to the troubles in NI/Ulster. I used to have it out, and debate, or try and debate with them. The majority are too far gone. So now, I just try to smother them, in good reformed faith love and kindness. Some of them are completely baffled. Because this is not what they've had repeatedly been indoctrinated with, from their ma & da's knee. It's~ *"Orange Man Bad!"* We might not like the way their church is set up and run. But that's their church. Not their parishioners and normal Catholics. Although this is what they repeatedly spread.

Great to see the orange in good numbers and the parade still going strong. The Moyne Pipe Band from Donegal Republic of Ireland absolutely brilliant to see them there👌🏻 marched with them a few times before, if anyone in the Moyne sees this comment here's a hint of who I am, Edenderry Pipe Band.

@Llwellyn ap Werth Far from it mate. I was referring to Toronto's parade though. Around 80-100 years ago Toronto had the biggest Orange parade in the world. As for Ireland the Orange tradition goes on. In N Ireland there will be upwards of 20 parades on 12th July each year, and also a parade in Donegal in the Irish Republic. Though you're not really that interested,care you? You sound like a skeptic to me. There is also a widespread Orange tradition in Scotland and in parts of England, especially Liverpool and around Portsmouth. I don't know about Wales though??

Its been happening here in Northern Ireland and in Scotland for years and this where the orange lodge and the parades is strongest. In Northern Ireland we have a thing called the parades commission which we have to apply for a 11 bar 1 to march and they make restrictions and this commission has heavy Irish republican influence so they they have destroyed traditional routes and even banned parades in certain areas, then republican and socialist partys rips down our 11th night bonfires aswell which has been tradition for well over 1-200 of years. We are attacked at every corner may it be political or violently yet we stay strong and hold our ground. Fun fact, New York City used to have a 12th of July celebrations until the huge Irish influx of immigration caused the Orange Riots in the 1880s which got the parade band. Republicans and socialists are allowed their parades untouched yet we get the stamping all because of our faith, patriotism and traditional values. I done a parade just last month we there was a bomb scare called in, thankfully there wasn't any bomb but It wouldn't put it past republicans because it has happened many times including at a Remembrance Sunday I was at in 2017

Apartheid was a part of the heritage and culture of white South Africans, that didn’t make it moral. Female genital mutilation is part of the heritage and practices of several cultures, but that doesn’t stop it being an offence against the rights of women. Discrimination against certain social groups is ingrained in many cultures. That doesn’t make it right. Just because yer maw and da were bigots doesn’t give you the right to be a bigot too.
