There is a possibility the 2 bars are of different lengths. Fit the bars according to the gap between your rails. Even though all these bars make look the same, i would do a fit check before extending any of the bars.

bob fyi, i bought the lexus oem crossbars, they gave me something similar to yours, so i returned it and bought one from ebay 1/4 of the price. i was surprise that the oem doesn’t use the slots.

That’s a tricky question. I do have slight wind noise when i drive with my sunroof open but haven’t really found the culprit as i have other accessories i could blame it on.

it does not interfere whatsoever. The bars can also be moved back a little if u want. I just chose to leave it there.

I brought and installed the Lexus cross rails. Just want to pass along the directions on the OEM bar that limit the installation of the front rail 8.5” from the front edge of the track and the back rail 14” from the rear edge of the track. According to the directions for the OEM set, your front rails as installed on the video are too far forward and should be about 6” further back from where you have them installed.

It’s not oem and you’ll be surprised that oem is also not oem. Some have found the aftermarket ones at the dealership parts dept displayed.

@@GXBOB so I took the chance and bought an OEM (sure I know Toyota didn’t make these, by OEM I mean sold by the maker). I was at the parts dept of a dealer and they have it in stock. A couple of things: 1. They are marked “made in USA”, 2. The installation is the simplest ever, no need to loosen anything, all the four top screws are pre-loosened just the right amount, and the washer underneath is ratcheted/teethed 3. The Allen wrench is the one that takes the cake, it’s a simple, four inch long Allen wrench, with a red plastic clip/flag on it and a plastic “handle”, so that you can precisely tighten to 8Nm. It’s a cute little mini torque wrench. To drop the bar and let it hook under the rails is very straightforward, perfect fit. $200? Maybe not but sure it felt like the “OEM” lol

Not sure what you meant by pressure. It’s held on by secure clamps. It’s held up heavy cargo baskets without any issues

i would take your fasteners and go to home depot. I would replace your current fasteners with specialty head such as torx or star heads. If a thief decides to steal anything on your car, he is only equipped with a flathead or phillips screw driver. You can't prevent theft but you can make it harder for the thief. He might just give up and move onto the next truck to steal.

the bars are not the same length. Size them up and temporarily fit them up on your rails to determine which ones go up front and which ones go in the rear. Its straight forward and no, there was no rhyme or reason for the location i chose.

Sorry for the late reply, its been raining over here. The side mounts that are silver in color seem to feel like plastic to me and painted over with silver overcoat.

The bought the same roof rack for my 2014 gx460 Premium but the rack seems short by 1/2 inch on one side. If I extend it as far as possible to one side, the other side does not extend far enough to reach the other side. Yes I did take out one screw on the springy side and extend it to the outer screw hole. Was I send the wrong roof rack?

I have no way of knowing if you bought the right ones. Wasn't sure if you already attempted this but I would move the rails forwars or back in the roof till they do fit I checked the ebay page I bought my roof rails from and the title says "For Lexus Roof Rack Roof Rail Crossbar Set 2010 2019 GX460 Replace PT278-60170 ". See if you can match yours with mine.

@@michaelblaser8822 I moved it forward and backwards, no difference as the racks are the same size, distance forward to back. Mine was a 2014 Premium and I've tested it a couple times and the roof rack just would NOT reach side to side. I had to return mine.

These roof racks and so many like them are Universal fit. As u can see i didn’t even use the brackets that came with it. I picked up some U bolts and nuts to make my own adapters

Surprisingly , one of my followers mentioned that he bought the set that i showed in my video and they were the same ones that his Lexus dealer's parts department sold for over $200. They are made from pretty sturdy aluminum and the fit is pretty tight. Its currently holding up a heavy roof basket. I have checked it every so often to see how its holding up and it hasn't failed me yet. I bought them for around $60 brand new on eBay, i believe. Of course, they're made in China but it serves its purpose.

I am concerned about the quality of the clamps which are made from cast iron. One of my clamps was broken when I received the package. Apparently it was damaged during the transportation. With this design it will be a safety issue when you have your bike on roof on highway and suddenly the clamps are broken. Just wondering how yours performed so far.

Your clamp was broken during shipping but clamps installed on your roof rails share the load with other clamps. I had a heavy roof basket attached to the rails for awhile in which i installed them with equal weight distribution amongst the 4 clamps. If installed correctly you shouldn’t have any problems except paint peeling.

It is definitely possible. But i've gone thru so much trouble and i have a 200 pound cage sitting on it, i don't want to redo it. Plus the entire setup is pretty robust. Thats why i have these comment sections to point out mistakes and give me a chance to edit the body of the description with new findings. Thanks Brian for the valuable input.

@@GXBOB So it turns out that the forward crossbar was longer than the rear however your modifications probably still would have been necessary to move the forward crossbar that far up on the side rails. Also, the instructions said that you want to get as close to those side rail caps as possible because they are load points. You will notice that those caps line up with the body frame and are not directly over the windows. At the same time as long as you aren't exceeding the 150 lbs limit (or even 200 lbs) your probably still good. I was only able to come within 7 inches of the forward load point unless I wanted to apply the Bob Mod.

Watch the weight ratings of these bars. I think it’s only 65lbs. They bent on me when I put a roof box on it and loaded it with some ski equipment. It’s also too close to the roof, the foot of the roof box mounting bracket is almost touching the roof. I end up switching to a Yakima roof rack system. Just want to share my experience with all the GX owners

This is interesting, another KZbin post showed the owner sitting on top of his Yakima platform that is installed on his OEM crossbar, though his truck is an early model 460 (but he made a point that he just used the OEM crossbars).

You can increase the weight limit. Lexus says 125 lbs for 2 cross bars. If you put 4 cross-bars, you will get 250 lbs weight limit. That is why.
