This is 1 of 5 Street legal COPO Camaros built and assembled by none other than Turn Key Automotive - the same company who is licensed to build the Track COPO’s for GM. This COPO was built in 2014 and completed using a new-used 2010 Camaro. From there it was completely stripped down and all COPO components added. This Camaro has never been raced and only has 138 road driven miles. This COPO is capable of mid 9 second quarter mile on the track!
EXTERIOR: Completely repainted at the time of the build. Finished in the gorgeous Blue Ray Metallic color. It has COPO graphics down the side. That recognizable COPO cowl hood. It comes on COPO exclusive Bogart wheels wrapped in street radial Mickey Thompsons. It does come with a set of weld wheels with drag radials for the rear if you want to use this for track.
INTERIOR: The interior has been thinned out to reduce weight. It still has the factory carpet, dash, and door panels. The speakers and radio have been deleted as well as the normal HVAC system. This does have a lightweight vintage Air/Heat kit installed in working order. This has a NHRA drag rated full roll cage, COPO racing bucket seats. There’s a single windshield wiper, both side mirrors, and working turn signals and horn installed for street driving. The electric cutoffs are on a toggle switch by the vintage air. The COPO gauges are all on the dash with toggle switches for fuel pressure, lights, ignition, fans, and your start button. Overall, the interior is in amazing shape and still smells like new.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood you’ll find a very impressive sight. This engine is an Edelbrock LS3 Supercharged and stroked to 416 ci. It’s producing 700+HP and can reach much more with a retune. The engine is mated to a Th400 Coan built trans that uses a hurst quarter stick for shifting. The engine bay is immaculate and quite the sight to see.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk has been gutted and does not have the factory carpeting. Instead, you’ll find a bigger 15 gallon fuel cell tank so you don’t run out of gas while driving, two batteries tied in nicely to a battery cutoff switch, and a voltage gauge. Everything is also in close to new condition.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath is spotless! This has Strange S-Track 4 link axle suspension, 3” stainless steel exhaust all the way to the rear of the car with magna flow mufflers and Corsa tips. Located just before are electronic controlled exhaust dumps that you can open and close with the flip of a switch. This has a Strange solid rear axle with a streetable gear ratio. The suspension consists of Strange 4 wheel disc brakes and Strange fully adjustable coilover struts/shocks. There are wheelie bars and a parachute mount installed as well. The actual parachute was not included but can be ordered from COPO Direct.
A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you will be given a 1 year membership.

I know what a COPO Camaro was in 1969. You were able to order a large Engine, Suspension etc by ordering a New Car through the Dealer. What is a COPO today? I answer my own question below. "This is 1 of 5 Street legal COPO Camaros built and assembled by none other than Turn Key Automotive - the same company who is licensed to build the Track COPO's for GM. This COPO was built in 2014 and completed using a new-used 2010 Camaro. From there it was completely stripped down and all COPO components added. This Camaro has never been raced and only has 138 road driven miles. This COPO is capable of mid 9 second quarter mile on the track!" Part 3: "Chevrolet decided to manufacture the COPO Camaro and reintroduced the vehicle again in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Its final run is anticipated to be 2015. In 2015, 69 COPO Camaros will be released. The number commemorates the original number of vehicles manufactured. The contemporary versions are different from the original in some respects. They are designed for competitive National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) racing and are intended exclusively for drag racing. The car was created to compete directly with the fastest racing automobiles in NHRA’s Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. These classes see run times of nine seconds or less on the quarter-mile. The later incarnations of the vehicle were designed to meet NHRA racing specifications. Standard sound deadening and power accessories were removed to optimize the weight for racing. The design includes a solid axle and moly roll chrome cage, racing bucket seats, a competition spoor shifter, performance gauges, and a safety harness. In the 2012 model, three racing-class engines were available in the COPO: an LS7-based naturally aspirated 427 (7.0L) V-8, and two supercharged LSX-based 327 (5.3L) V-8 engines, one featuring a 2.9L supercharger, the other with a 4.0L supercharger. The 2013 models feature the naturally aspirated 427 engine and a supercharged 350 engine. Unlike the model built in 1969, the later versions of the COPO are not street legal. The COPO Camaro cannot be registered, licensed or driven on public streets or highways, and marks the first purpose-built race car offered by Chevrolet. This legendary racer is designated with a serial number as opposed to the originals, which were denoted with a VIN. The COPO is the fastest Camaro manufactured at the Chevy factory."

Part 2; The COPO Camaro is a specialty vehicle with low production volumes, initially created by finding a loophole to circumvent limitations GM placed on Chevy’s performance vehicles. The result was a powerful, street-legal machine that exceeded expectations and has become a coveted vehicle among collectors. Initially released in 1969 as the ZL-1 COPO Camaro, the automobile was part of Chevy’s special-order system, a method used by dealers during the sixties that allowed them to create high-performance vehicles that were not available elsewhere. The options found in the COPO weren’t available for purchase on the dealership’s paperwork. Some dealers devised a way to get the options they desired on the Camaro: they used particular order codes to receive cars with special features. Instead of placing an order for Camaros using the “Regular Production Option” sheet, used by dealerships for performance and styling upgrades, a dealership began ordering Camaros using the Central Office Purchase Order (hence the name COPO), which was generally reserved for adding alterations to municipal fleets. General Motors mandated that the Camaro engine could not exceed 400 cubic inches in a passenger vehicle. In 1969, some dealerships, specifically Yenko Chevrolet, were looking for a more powerful automobile; Fred Gibb Chevrolet also sought an equally potent option for racing. Both found a way to push the automaker’s boundaries. Don Yenko, of Yenko Chevrolet, owned a dealership in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and placed an order for 201 Camaros as he envisioned they should be built: with more powerful engines. In previous years, he had ordered Camaros and swapped out the engines himself, but in 1969, he began the COPO 9561 program, prompting other dealerships that caught on to the special ordering system to launch the COPO 9560 program. The COPO Camaro was produced in limited numbers using special Central Office Production Orders9561and 9560. The COPO 9561 was a basic Camaro sport coupe, converted by the dealership to include a 427 cubic inch iron block with 425 horsepower. 1,015 COPO 9561s were made by GM and delivered to dealerships, including 201 to Yenko Chevrolet. The COPO 9560s ordered by Gibb Chevrolet were obtained using the special order system required to build the high-performance models. 69 units of the racing car were built in 1969. The COPO Camaro was built with an exotic aluminum block 427 engine with 425 horsepower known as the ZL-1.

Part 1: I'll edit this later when I get to a laptop. In 1967, during the heyday of the muscle car era, Chevrolet introduced the Camaro, its answer to the Ford Mustang. The basic Camaro had an inline-6 powertrain of 230 inches (3.8 liters), which put the top maximum speed at 140 miles per hour (mph). Some came equipped with a V-8 engine with a 350-cubic inch (5.7 liters) motor that managed 290 hp. Meanwhile, over at Ford, Mustangs had been being modified by auto designer Carroll Shelby. The 1967 Shelby Mustang, known as the GT500, was being equipped with a 390-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) engine, which was rated at 335 hp. To combat this, Yenko, one of Chevrolet’s top-selling dealers at the time, obtained permission from Chevrolet to modify the Camaro. To get more performance out of the SS 350 Camaro, Yenko swapped out the production engine for an L-72 427 motor that came on a Chevrolet Corvette. These became known as SS 396 L-78 Camaros. In addition to swapping the engine block, the cylinder heads, intake manifold, and carburetor were changed to withstand the additional power the engine would generate. As a result, the Yenko Camaro reached a maximum of 425 hp. By 1968, Yenko was having trouble keeping up with modified Camaro requests. Yenko requested to have some Camaros come off the line manufactured with the L-72 427 motor. Using the COPO process, Yenko was to acquire 68 factory 427 Camaros. The Yenko modification for these Camaros included headers, intake manifold, carburetor, wheels, tires, and brakes. In 1969, two versions of the COPO Camaro were produced. The COPO 8561 option came with the regular L-72 427 (made of cast iron) while the COPO 9560 came with an all-aluminum version of the motor - called the ZL-1 - so it was much lighter. The Camaros with the ZL-1 motor was rated to have 430 hp, but some tests showed it making closer to 550 hp. A little information about the COPO Camaro. The Camaros with the ZL-1 motor was rated to have 430 hp, but some tests showed it making closer to 550 hp. By 1970, interest in muscle cars faded due to higher energy and insurance costs and stricter emission regulations, and no more COPO Camaros were made. In 1981, Chevrolet made a special COPO run of Turbo Z-28 models that were shipped to Yenko, which transformed them into the Yenko Turbo Z. The standard Z-28 Camaro came with a 350-cubic-inch V-8 motor. The primary modifications included the addition of a turbocharger, upgraded wheels, and graphics. Some were upgraded with leather seats, stabilizer bars, and special shock absorbers. In 2009, a prototype Yenko Camaro was unveiled. Chevrolet did not produce any more COPO Camaros until 2011.
