I have a 1986 Honda CRX, and I think it was the best car that Honda has ever produced. It is very basic and everything about the car is thoughtfully laid out. Easy to see instrument panel, great visibility, quick and light, reliable, and great gas mileage. You couldn't ask for a better commuter car.

The EPA numbers for this car are set in 'normal' mode only (because most people will just leave it at that). They get well into the 40s in eco mode all over youtube. So if you want MPG, buy one and press 'eco' and enjoy keeping that 45 mpg but in comfort and style.

Don't underestimate the mpg of this car. I average 38 in mine and i smash it in sport mode all the time. If i drove it like a grandma id easily get more than 40. Managed to get my rpms down to almost 500 the other day with the paddles and was cruising getting 75mpg!

The CRX fuel economy numbers are wrong in your video. The EPA changed its testing standards (tougher) and now the old 80s CRX HF (slow & low horsepower) is rated 40/48 and the standard CRX is 27/34.

I have a 91 CRX that has never been driven in the winter and never modified and you could eat off my engine. I've had it since new and would 'never' get rid of it. But, I have to say, I really like the looks of the new CRZ. The car shown is about the same color as my car.

Most of you do not realize the CR-Z really is the spiritual predecessor of the CR-X. It is fun, economic and very stylish. Be honest: the CRX base model was not a perfomance car either. It was FUN. And it is 100% the same with the CR-Z. I hope in several years the people will look back at those negative reviews and and will shake their head. Because I bet my balls NONE of you who bashes the car has acutally driven one. I bet! First drive, then start having an opinion. Why? The CR-Z is more than its numbers on the sheet. It feels zippier and faster than expected - and yes it is FUN. Especially on curvy roads. True the Zed could have needed just a bit more power, as you can feel the lack of it on highway when accelerating in higher speeds. That is the only time you are noticing it. Otherwise the car is quite nimble - and with its electric assisted torque you accelerate faster from standstill than most others. And what most of you do not consider: the CR-Z is quite gadgety and is very interesting to drive. Those 3 driving mode buttons are super fun and you feel the difference between them immediately! It seems like those 3 buttons should reflect the CR-X HF, Standard and SI model.

The people who bash the CR-Z would bash the CR-X too if they had never driven it. The CR-X looks like shit on the specs. But it is a great little car. The CR-Z is much more fun than what the numbers tell you. There is a reason for why the CR-Z has a small die hard fan base. I live in Japan and I see CR-Zs on the street quite often. I bought mine for a relatively cheap price and I'm having a lot of fun without bleeding out money. If you want something fast,go get a rx-8. If you want something lighter,go get a swift sport. Hell,go get a Kei car. The CR-Z is a well balanced, cheap to own, interesting and fun car.

Yep. Not to mention the crz has dozens of modern features and an absolutely massively improved interior quality and sound dampening. These things add a few lbs. Good thing we have hybrid tech now to cancel out that weight :D Crx-ers crap me up. It's like people saying '90s tvs are better than '10s LEDs or plasmas.

I miss my 1989 Honda CR-X Si fun little car. Easy and cheap to maintain, great on gas, economical. Not sure why the CR-Z doesn’t get as good mpg for being a hybrid. My 2018 Camry 2.5 liter non hybrid gets about the same gas mileage for being a midsize sedan 28 city/ 39 highway. 🤔

Honda will no longer be making this car, stopped at a dealership yesterday they only have 3 , same with the rest of the local dealers for the most part. I asked the dealer why he said we are letting inventory go Honda is no longer making them. Lack of interest and they never advertised this car. Freaking shame The S button on this thing will put u in your seat. VERY nice car.

Agreed, the 2013 re-release is kind of like an Si version…better battery, the S+ button, and more aggressive cosmetic front end really was an improvement.::not to mention the all back interior….I love Honda, I always have, my first car was a 91 Si Hatchback, learned to drive stick with that car…so I LOVE Honda…but I have to admit, the company has this bad habit of giving up on some of their coolest projects…the decision making at the top of the company has always been a little too conservative for me.

I own both manual 08 and 09 Honda Fit. The 08 handles the best... like a real sports car, but is slow... but not as slow as this new crx. The 09 is mush faster after minor changes and break-in period but handles worse than the 08. I guess you can't have it all. Too bad they can't put a little larger engine in this beautiful car. I think it would be tough to find a nicer looking car at the price.

@KenBobBad Unfortunately, I'll have to disagree. A pack of batteries for a hybrid vehicle is, indeed, a very expensive item, much more expensive than any of those you mentioned. And it's not rare for a battery pack to go "bad", it is, in fact, expected. Every 5-7 years or so. And then you have the problem of discarding them, generating a negative impact for the enviroment. Which throws away all of the Saving The Planet argument, that so many people use. So, yes, I'd much rather own a Diesel.

I am a fan of Honda. It pains me to say this, but every time I see this car I just feel disappointed. I find the exterior design to be the best part of the car and I hope it at least signals that Honda's design team has gotten it together. But there's no reason that it weighs the same as a Insight and gets worse MPG. Honda should work on it's hybrid drivetrain to improve the Insight/Civic and apply it to the Fit and Accord. This car probably would have been better with the 1.8 from the Civic...

CRX Si = lean, sexy, street legal go-kart. CR-Z = bland, bloated looking, eco-green car. Honda motor company died in the early 1990's. The shift away from race-inspired vehicles towards green safety conscience cars killed this once spectacular automaker. I owned a string of Civics in the 80's and 90's. small, spectacularly engineered vehicles that were RIDICULOUSLY fun to drive. Let me stress RIDICULOUSLY fun to drive. LITERALLY, STREET LEGAL GO-KARTS without strapping on a single aftermarket performance part! I then bought a brand new 1992 Civic sedan... unresponsive dumbed-down steering, tons of body roll and front-end plow, no more go-kart fun factor...and no more road-in-your-lap driving position. Test drove a 1993 Civic EX Coupe in the hopes that it would be better...but just as boring and dumbed-down to drive as the sedan. Sold the '92 Civic...bought a clean, used CRX Si and drove to till the wheels fell off. That was my last Honda. R.I.P. Honda Motor Company.

@toyota420xp I've heard that, but that is only with the 6 speed manual, in sport mode, with an expert driver. I have yet to see the actual tests. The car, unfortunately, is sluggish. Its not Honda's fault its not as great as the original bc cars can't be build like they were back in the 80s. The truth is, its a great i modern nterpretation of the original CRX, I do think honda should make a regular version w/o a hybrid but the Z is supposed to stand for ZERO emissions and the CRZ is AT-PZEV
