Considering 3 years later limerick won a Munster title and 8 years later win the all Ireland and subsequently the 4 in a row. 5 all Irelands out of 6 and the current limerick team is regarded as one of if not the best hurling team of all time. You have to give a shoutout to na piarsaigh’s success in the club championship as well. What a turnaround in what was an absolute farce in the McCarthy era.

Yes it was farcical but it was a huge transitionary period from 2005 to circa 2012 with several managers like Mccarthy, Bennis, Loghnane, Considine, all having fallouts with inter County setups and perhaps failing to keep up with the way the game was changing ! Clare were also in the doldrums around this period and pushed on and won several u21s and a senior all ireland! Basically it often takes something like this to ignite a fire and it certainly did for Limerick
