Two things confused me greatly as a young fledgeling dci fan/snare drummer back a number of years ago: 1) I hadn't yet grasped that sometimes music changes as a season goes on and that there are two versions of the snare break featured in this video; the earlier season one that Matt teaches us, and the finals version also heard here in the example footages, so that confused me like "what huh how come it's different sometimes???" and 2) when he said "That's our snarebreak in Summer of 77," I didn't realize that the piece they were playing in that part of their show was called "Summer of 77" and I thought that he was teaching us the BD snare break from 1977, but then why does the footage of the line playing it look so recent. I know now the error of my thinking, and realize I might have been stupid, but still funny to recall.

Lol, great video but the reference videos they use often have two different versions of the same lick. Probably an earlier season lick and a revised lick later in the summer.

when i first got it down, i played it on an actual snare (i was practicing on a practice pad) and i smacked my thumb hella hard. i got a blood bubble and a really bad bruise

back in highschool we had a similar ending to a piece and i had my hand over just to far and wacked the absolute hell out of it, black and blue for almost a month and had to keep it wrapped

Summer '20 - blown away. What was Matt's nickname while center snare at BD? The Terminator ?? Dude is nails!
@glennsnare094 жыл бұрын
Approaching the finals, they took out the isolated cheese four. More than likely because it was too hard to clean, and you get the same rhythmic affect by just doing two isolated diddles. Definitely challenging. But challenging is always what wins. Nor is it always what sounds best

Hello, how are you. I'm from Brazil and wanted to know how to study snare drum, how old is it usually started, how many hours a day, is there a method of study, a score, the person doing private lessons and how many years studying to reach that level, playing well?
@piercemartin52135 жыл бұрын
You can start at any age. First step is you want to learn your rudiments backwards and forward, make them as clean and effortless as possible at any speed (practice with a metronome always!). Take advantage of KZbin, there are some actually good tutorials on here. A good instructor would be the best way to go forward for sure though. The amount of time you spend practicing is almost not as important as how smart you practice. You truly will get out of it what you put into it. Hope this helps
