My 2011 V6 Camaro just went through yet another lengthy diagnostic. Just yesterday it was saying "Engine Overheated - Idle Engine" and the temp gauge was redlining and the car goes in to limp mode. But then I turned on the heater and the gauge immediately went to half way briefly before getting "Overheated" again. I've had the thermostat and water pump replaced twice, and all hoses were also replaced and all air removed from the system. It runs fine for a about 6 or so months, then the same overheating problem. Last time they replaced the old radiator cap because the rubber was bad. Worked great for about a year, until this week. So last week I had my oil changed and fluids checked. Tuesday it started overheating again! My Mechanic checked everything out for me, and of course the problem didn't happen while he had it! WTH????? At least I took photos & video so they know I'm not crazy. They can't figure it out either. They did recommend not using the motor cover, especially during the summer. This is so frustrating. But I'm grateful it's not the head gasket! If anyone comes up with any answers, please let us know.

@@Questhompson My Mechanic can't figure it out either. Last year we replaced the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and that seemed to do the trick, until about a week ago it started happening again. My temp gage will read hot, the screen starts dinging and telling me the car is hot and it goes into "limp mode". But then I turned off the car, and 10 minutes later when I started it back up the temp read fine! So I know the car isn't actually overheating, because it wouldn't have cooled down that fast. I'm starting to think there's a problem with the computer/software and that's what my Mechanic is looking into. Problem is, when I do get it to his shop, of course the car acts fine. I'm so frustrated! UPDATE: Got new fuel pump(s) at the gas tank. Bought a Code Reader, and it had a P0008 in the memory, which is the timing chain. But Mechanic said not applicable at this time. It's hot as heck in this desert right now and car is running fine. I'm crossing my fingers. I really like this car, and this isn't a good time to be buying a new one.

This is an old video but i know a lot of ppl probably still have this issue, they told me it was a head gasket because of how hot the car was getting, bubbling and overflowing and everything, turned out the coolant cap was pushing the pressure and coolant to the overflow tank but not suckin it back up when cold, if you have the same problem then change the cap and keep an eye on the level of coolant in the overflow tank, make sure there is no cracks in the bypass hose!

It's probably an air pocket caught in the cooling system. It needs to be purged or evacuated. If you had repairs that included any cooling system parts like a radiator, thermostat or water pump they may not have purged the system correctly.

That's what I do. My Camaro coolant goes around 220 after hauling ass on it. Turn on a/c. Lowers it down around 203-210. I think it's normal. Notttt until you see the actual temperature guage lining up on the middle and going pass the half line mark. Gets closer to H. Houston. We have a problem. I just had some type liquid coming our by the front axle on driver side. Turn out to be the upper radiator hose next to the stock intake. Water dripping out the hose. Making it's way down the hose before hitting the "T" pipe. Drips exactly on the frame in front I clearly damage the upper radiator hose because do you see how much space is between the radiator hose and the stock intake . it's widely risky to always mess up the radiator hose if you don't know how to remove the stock intake.

Check to see if your coolant level is sufficient through both the reservoir and the through the radiator cap when the engine is cool. Added 50/50 mixture until full and keep an eye on the water pump for any leaking coolant. Might just be the gasket. If leaking then replace it and see if it condition resolves. Hi guys, I know this video is a few years old. But today, Friday 9/28/18, I got an oil change in my white 2011 Camaro LS. The previous oil Walmart techs put in (May 2018) was Castrol Full Synthetic 5W-30 (they usually ask what brand of oil I want. But this particular tech didn't ask & I assumed they would used Mobil1). That was the first time(to my knowledge, I'm the 2nd owner) Castrol has been used in the engine. Today I specifically asked for Mobil1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 with a high end ($14) Fram oil filter. Before I got the oil change the engine coolant temp. was showing 192-194 Fahrenheit. After the oil change it was 210, maybe got to 216-220. One would expect that the coolant temp would remain in the 190's, since it's fresh oil, but apparently not. I'll keep monitoring it to see if it stabilizes. I have a strong feeling this is due to the switch from Castrol back to Mobil1, both are full synthetic. Maybe the new oil is cleaning the remnants of the previous oil.
@JZL150176 жыл бұрын
David C. The brand of oil will not affect temps that much, make sure they put the proper amount of oil in, if you’ve been doing a bit of “spirited” driving then those temps are normal. Just cruising, nah. Check thermostat, water pump, coolant levels, etc.

No actual resolution to the problem, have a feeling there might be a short somewhere as well as a few other things... Been fighting this other dealer because I'm out of warranty now but was told if my vehicle had been in before warranty expires it would be covered, well I'm thinking a few things now, Water pump is bad, or a temperature sensor is bad. It tells me it's 115F outside when it's only 95F. Besides this issue the same dealer ended up costing GM a new engine for my car because the service tech didn't put enough oil, car started knocking and I tried to let them hear it they weren't able to "replicate the knocking sound" that I could hear plain as day. Week later the engine locked up.
