Here's everything I find wrong with his ending assessment of the M's overall luxury-sport dynamics: 1. SIZE: I personally find the size & dimensions of this sedan to be perfect! Both for standard & extended wheelbase versions; he even says so himself that both the front and back seats are adequately spacious for grown adults. Also,if this car were any shorter in length than the standard wheelbase already is, it would disrupt that sleek, sweeping roofline and rear curvature, and thus ruin the immaculate outer styling altogether. 2. CLASSIFICATION: I think it was an ingenious decision on Infiniti's part to market (and price) the M/Q70 as a midsize competitor, despite being amply larger than virtually all other sedans in this segment. He was right to say that the M/Q70 wouldn't hold up against the likes of the S-Class or 7 series, as the M isn't quite as spacious, comfortable or refined as those models. BUT...as a 5 series, E-class competitor, it's more than a match. Which brings me to my next point... 3. DRIVING CHARACTERISTICS: For the most part, I'm in opposing disagreement with everything he believes would make the M a more "proper" luxury-sport sedan. The ride does NOT need to be softened up any more than it already is in Normal mode; I feel as if Infiniti, to the best of their ability, adamantly tapped into that uncompromising BMW suspension arrangement, which aims to give the car an ideal balance between firm & sharp handling and a comfortable, forgiving ride. Hence the varying Normal/Sport modes. Same goes for the steering feel and arrangement. The M doesn't have to come with a light, airy steering mannerisms just for the fact that it's a relatively large luxury sedan, like an S Class or LS. Taught & heavy steering wheels have always been akin to sports cars and sport-oriented driving (such as with many BMW's) so I feel it's rightly at place with the M and helps solidify Infiniti's objective of giving their current flagship it's unique luxury-sport character. I for one find this to be as perfect a luxury-sport sedan as there can be, and look forward to owning one of these in the future. The ONLY minor gripe I've ever had with the M/Q70 is the subpar fuel economy, but those large naturally aspirated engines mostly due away with any dissatisfaction.

After recently driving this car with a fresh set of Michelin Primacy tires, I noticed a significant difference in the ride comfort and road noise levels. This car got an unfair shake from me when I drove it with the old Bridgestones on it. I am much more impressed with the car now. Thanks for the well thought-out counterpoint.

I owned one of these, during 2 years and from 78k miles to 105k I never had any problems. Just oil changes and tire rotations. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable and quick daily driver.

My family had one of these for a few months last year (did not get a prepurchase inspection……I urged everyone to get one when thing used)and it unfortunately mechanically was totalled due to rust (I live in the northeast USA) but when we did have it and I drove it, my god it was just perfect. It was highly optioned, super comfortable, beautiful interior, and was a rocket when you put your foot down. Miss that car dearly!!

One heck of a good review.👍 Likely selling my low mileage 07' 328i coupe manual and getting one of these. The GS 350 was the other contender. The Infiniti promises to impart a better drivers experience and man,what a dashboard.😎

I've had a Q70 for the last 3 years... and i found your review pretty spot on. I happen to belong to the exact niche they were going for, and i absolutely love my Q70... I also love the fact that i got it as a dealer demonstrator for half its retail price... which further serves the point you were making that the niche market this car serves is pretty small, because i bought mine when Infiniti Australia were dumping them from the line up due to utterly abysmal sales ☹ They really do appeal to a certain market... my friends call that the "old man car" market... but whatever, what do they know. (The said the same about my A33 Maxima... which in Australia was pretty much exactly the Infiniti I30,) My only criticisms of it are: 1. We didn't get the v8 as an option in Australia, (but that's a mild criticism, because that VQ is phenomenal,); 2. There is no way to completely turn the "rain sensing wiper" off and use it only as "intermittent" - This is a very big oversight... i don't mind power assistance, but outright automation is glitchy, and infuriating. 3. We didn't get the tan interiors on the Q Series. ☹ Mine is the absolute base model as well, but the 2017 comes with a higher level of features... but it would have been nice to pick up a premium model, there were simply none available for me to buy at the time! Poor Infiniti really did not do well in Australia... either time. My recommendation is: If you liked the A33 Maxima, you'll more than likely love the Q70!

I have this car but I have the jdm version and mine addresses ALL your concerns basically. Maybe they tuned it very differently for Japan. It's large and floaty. I have the tech package with the rear sunshade pre collision seat belts etc but it has a smaller vq25 engine. (Yes..... Nissan/Infiniti has a 2.5 liter vq engine). If anything I'm considering getting some coilovers to stiffen things up a bit. It wafts about like a Lincoln Town car. Love it

I drive plenty of cars but I always come back to the LS400. It's sort of the baseline for perfection in my mind. Even driving the M37 and the LS400 back to back--the M37 is a really good car but the old LS is something else.
@bobhamilton298

I've owned two LS400's and put over 300K miles on my earlier 92. But I've also owned an M35X and now a 2013 M37X. I liked my LS400 as a distance driver as it has the plusher ride, but I appreciate the AWD and better handling of the M cars living in PA. I blew a head gasket in my M35X at 220K miles, so will be careful to retorque the heads on my M37X when I get to 100K miles and every 50K miles after that. The 7 speed trans is also lurchy compared to the M36X and have noticed that in other M37's I have driven. But looks wise, inside and out, the M37 is a vast improvement over the plain jane M35. It "looks" like a more exotic car and that is actually important to me. I don't want a car that gets confused with a Hyundai. And I like the bigger size as well. I rented a brand new Q50 recently and although I sort of liked the 3L turbo, the car felt like a Honda Accord inside. The M cars are roomy front and back and feel better as a touring car than its little brother. Time will tell if I get the miles out of this I got from my LS400's. But overall, I am happier with it and its looks when sitting beside an LS. The LS500 in particular is a butt ugly car with its verbose cow catcher grill. Simply nasty!

Mustafa R i did! Ive had it ever since and its BADASSS! So far i put 5% all around. Deleted the muffler. I got test pipes coming in the mail right now. And when those come in im straight piping the area the resonators are too so it will be a full straight pipe. Then im getting it a tune. And i painted the hood black. But thats cause i was debating doing the two tone look with a black hood and trunk and roof. And i decided to do it because some asshole keyed my hood for no reason. -_- i still dont know who did it. So i fixed the key gouge myself and painted the hood so now the two tone is happening. No biggie cause it looks even more badass with the black hood rn. Oh and i debaged the letters on the back. Next is coilovers and aftermarket wheels and some engine stuff and a big turbo and im gonna crank it to 700hp. Really wondering how the trans will hold up though 😂

Mustafa R you wont go wrong getting one its the best 🤤 mine is the all wheel drive m37x model too! Apparently they are rare and mine is stamped made from japan. The motor is stock right now and racing i beat my buddys turbo vw and ive beaten frs's and brz's. So far every 350z and 370z i come accross has been to afraid to race and wont race me yet 😂 i really wanna race a 5.0 and other stuff. But i cant do anything rn for a few months cause im on probation for accidentally passing a stop sign. 😂 you wouldnt believe it but no joke YES FOR A STOP SIGN 😂 im sure you can find a good deal! What i did i purposely looked at ones that sat at the lot for a long period of time and i asked and they said nobody has even looked at it yet. It costs them more to keep them there. So i got RIGHT to the end of the process and at the end i actually said no i wont do it cause not the deal i want. and i left. Two days later they called me and said literally "When can you come back in, we wanna work with you and we will do the deal you want" 😂 and i got it the very next day for a HELLA GOOD DEAL i got an insane deal and a really good price too

I have this very car and you're spot on. It can haul when you want it to, but most of the time you want to cruise around downtown cranking up the bass and just enjoying the comfort. Seats can be adjusted like crazy, so you'll never be uncomfortable. I have the M37x and the AWD is... way more than you expected. I can take sharp turns at 60mph. It looks just good enough, is just sporty enough, is really comfy enough for serious car buyers to consider. If you're in real estate, financial services, or mortgages - this can be your car. Or if you're starting off a good record label, this will do as well. It's like "business meets hip hop."

By far the best review or explanation of the M I have come across. Everything you have said is right on the money. I live and drive this car in Africa and guys in benzes and bimmers always come up to me at gas stations asking me what car this is and give me compliments as to how beautiful and sleek this car is. Like you said it’s so different from any other car on the road and it sounds amazing. Plus it hauls ass when you want it to but a comfortable cruiser as well.

I own an AWD 5.6 V8 model with the echnology package, (all bells and whistles) and i love it more than my Mercedes S550 which been a troublesome money pit.

The rubbery feel of the steering wheel and shifter could be due to an owner! Guessing by the 2018 debut of the review, improper use of leather conditioners or hand chemicals can degrade or change leather feel! Worth noting

Have you seen the M37 in China and in Asia in general? They took out a lot of stuff. 'Cause Infiniti America didn't want us to have all that just yet. Look it up. @@mk3mo578 i got it from my father at 150k last august. I do Uber full time so thats why i put 40K on it so quickly. Oil changes regularly. Check and make sure the air blows hot and cold on both the passenger and driver side. The blend door actuators going out in Infinitis/Nissans are pretty common and can be a pretty expensive repair if you dont know what youre doing. My passenger side actuator failed in the cold position so i currently have no heat on that side. Its been like that since my dad bought it. The driver side seems to be an easy fix based in the videos on youtube but i haven’t seen a video for the passenger side yet or any helpful info in any forums yet. Other than that its ran pretty good. It runs on premium gas so the way gas prices are looking right now thats something to consider.
