2012_02 Riva1920 & il Kauri di New Zealand

Unbelievable today but I grew up in Devonport New Zealand in a Victorian house the floors were Rimu and the siding was all Kauri. It was a large 4 bedroom house with a 35’ living room. I last saw the house in 2007 and visited the owners. They had renovated the house but kept all of the native timber. The house was built in in 1893 and all but one Kauri siding board were in perfect condition. One board had been in contact with the ground and rotted. The owners had found a board the same size from a demolished old home and had it put in. I have meby happy memories from that house.

Loved this place, the kauri chair that I sat in [see left] was at this museum and we walked up the staircase. The one thing I really liked the best of all is the old mans face carved of kauri that sits above the diner, we had a few laughs with this rubbing his nose to the amusement of other patrons. i did this in karaka except we pulled out like 200 logs mybe more it was very boreing as the labourer
