2012 Ford Fiesta 1 25 Zetec Cambelt Replacement. I thought while i have one of these engines out of the car it would be easy to show a camshaft drive belt replacement.

I would not have been able to successfully change the timing belt, tensioner and water pump on my mk6 fez without this video. Alan - thank you for making this video and all your other videos (including that pesky crankshaft bolt heat gun trick!) They save me good money and allow me to get to know my fez better too! Subbed for sure!

Was it similar to this engine in the video? I am about to change the timing belt on my fiesta mk6 1.4 and I was wondering is it roughly the same like in this video. Did you have any issu during the belt replacement? Thanks
@TimSter156 ай бұрын
@@ezredes19 there's virtually no difference apart from size (I've heard that swapping the engines requires no further parts e.g. ECUs etc.) There's only one thing that got in my way heavily during the process; corrosion. If any of the fixings holding covers on are severely corroded as they were on mine, good luck to you getting them off. They're a real bugger! Additionally, ensure you have all the right tools including a heat gun to get the crankshaft bolt out and drive belt tools; the job takes a lot longer if you don't have them from the get go! See Alan's video for removing the crankshaft bolt.

Great video as always! Little tip I found really handy on the auxiliary belt installation is to use the alternator. Take the top bolt nut and stud out and loosen the bottom 13mm bolt swing the alternator down and rout the belt round as you would, then push the alternator back up and put your stud bolt back in, so much easier and doesn’t damage the belt! 👍🏽👍🏽

Thanks to this great video Alan I changed the cam belt on my 1.6 focus after seeing this! I do have the advantage of having a milwaukee m18 which I needed on its top setting of 1900nm to get the crank bolt off. Getting the stretch belt off I always put the lower alternator bolt loosely in then using a bar to pry the alternator across with the belt fully on then line up the top bolt and stud carefully! Job done. Much easier than the tool and I've never had an issue having had to do this a few times for different jobs. Honestly never thought I'd tryst myself with a cam belt on an interference engine buy as you say with the timing kit you can't do wrong

I did this job about 2 weeks ago now. I was working on the VVT engine. I didn't remove the valve cover. I used the TDC pin and the flywheel holder that came in my tool kit. Also, I didn't have that rubber piece holding the upper timing cover on.

Interesting video,never done one of these engines before but my new mk3 focus has one in,I got the garage to change the belt and pump before i bought it but its nice to see how the timing is done without timing marks,seems like an easier system although the keyless wheels mean that if you ever got a loose cam or crank bolt you'd be buggered.The garage cheaply didn't change the drive belt much to my dismay when it started slipping after a few months but it only took me 2 attempts on my own to fit a new one using the cable tie method to hold the belt on the crank whilst turning.Thanks.Monica's a babe but she doesn't have many acting skills,lol I would have liked to have seen you repair the engine !!!

Andy, for the record, did you do it - engine out - engine in up on a lift - engine in on the floor ? My engine's in situ and I have no lift. I'm thinking that if I had to do it on the floor, I'd be getting in a state trying to get leverage on the crank bolt etc. (I'm no longer a young man or a middle-aged man, but the other type) . Also, silly question coming up, does the AC compressor have to come off ? ; if it does, what happens with the escaping gas?
@andymacaulay95962 жыл бұрын
@@Elconbrioso hi there, I carried out the cambelt replacement with the engine still in the car. I had to remove the coolant tank(drain the radiator first) Remove the top engine mount sited under the coolant tank,and remove the alternator and starter motor. I had the car up on axle stands and the engine supported on a trolley jack. I used a flywheel locking tool to hold the engine at TDC I used a 2ft long breaker bar and impact rated sockets to loosen the crank nut. An impact wrench would be easier and are availible from tool hire shops for reasonable cost. I bought the flywheel locking tool and the cam and crankshaft locking kit from machine mart. All the torque wrench settings are availible on line as well Good luck

I've got two of these that i'll have to do in the year. One has a serious coolant leak (either head gasket or water pump), the other is still on its original belt from 1998 so needs changing. I hate the stretch belts too. Thankfully the older car doesnt have one, but the later (2001) car does unfortunately.

Hi Alan, I have a question for you. A couple of months ago I did the timing belt on my Fiesta (1.4 duratec engine, mostly the same of the one in the video) and obviously the crank pulley is starting to disintegrate and it'll need replacement at some point. I was wondering if the camshaft locking bar is sufficient to hold the engine timing because, if I recall correctly, the crank gear once the pulley is removed spins freely. Thank you!
@phlanks3 жыл бұрын
These are my favourite cam belts to change! I've done so many that I've experimented on the stretchy belts you can put the belt on all the pulleys and start to run it on the top of the crank pulley but actually turn the engine backwards (yes I know that's not advised) but it makes fitting the auxiliary belt so much easier you don't even need to wedge any tools in that might damage it and it doesn't try to fall off the pulleys while turning just guide it with your other hand and it practically falls on :-D

@@nigelmitchell351 nope I've done hundreds of cam belts on various engines over the years but the majority on these engines. The chain driven engines with stretchy belts fitted to some focus' and mondeo's are more tricky I admit!

not sure if it still applies on the newer versions but when the 1.25 engines came out they used to say that the tappets needed checked/adjusted at 90k miles/9 years, but cam belt at 100k miles/10 years, but to set tappets (theyre a shim system) you had to remove the cams! also the reason there are so many bolts in the timing belt cover is to prevent dirt/water etc contaminating the belt and the belt breaking prematurely.

Hello, Thank a lot for the excellent lesson in how to fit the timing chain. I by mistake turn the crankshaft without the main bolt attached. So I miss the timing. I forgot this timing procedure and turn the engine by hand whit a bit efort until it turns. Then again until a bit efort and freely again. Dummy me. Then I read the manual carefuly and insert the timing pin on the slot on the rear engine until the crankshat hit it. Put the iron bar on the slots of the camshafts. Mount all, turn the engine two turns and the timing marks are OK. But there is a starnhe thing. The engine has no compression and wont start. Is tere any possibility to have damaged the valves while turning by hand out of timing?

I always tighten crankshaft bolt first. Because otherwise when cam sprocets are done and i tighten botom bolt with specs (i guess it was 25 nm and 70degrese). The force i use to tighten the bolt makes camsafts move a little and it bend upper lock timing.
