I have the '09 hatchback SE. I like the new Accent, but love my car too much to trade it. I wish mine was a six-speed. My MPG isn't as good, partly because of the gearing, which I wouldn't change cuz it makes the car snappier. But, my SE does not "wallow", even if the new one does, it is grippy in the twisties, and a blast to drive. It still makes me smile, and has been trouble free and solid. Not even a tiny rattle. The new Accent looks nice, but maybe not as much fun to drive.

Not sure why there are no cup holders for rear passengers, A simple fold out armrest in the back with cup holders would be a simple solution, but Hyundai has not addressed this issue for 2013 model.

Just took a road trip in my 13 accent gls Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Preformed well got around 38-42 mpg and the power was more than adequate. Oh and my 13 gls with premium package does do bluetooth streaming!! It's a excellent little car. Deceptively roomy and a great drivetrain!

The Accent GLS in Canada (equivalent to SE in the States) has a standard sunroof, I wonder if it's available for the 2013 model year in the States?

@TheK12student Yes I do have it great car all around for the price point. The 1.6L GDI engine at 138 HP rocks in a light stiff car like this. Not a sports car but has balls for sure. Maintenance has been great and Hyundai has one of the industries best warranties so not much to worry about in that department. Go have a test drive and see if you like.

@panaclean775 ya i see where your coming from, but hyundai just didnt go and design this within the last two years when the fiesta was out. hyundai has had that same back and sides for their cars in euorpe and asia. like all thier compacts and sub compacts there all look like this. they basically just made a new front, shipped it to the US and called it the new Accent

@panaclean775 The Prius is then for being the same shape... The Fiesta wasn't the first hatchback you know. Hell. There's a sedan version of it too.

Pretty well rounded review but mine does seem to have some erratic engine idle and some engine vibration thru the steering wheel with the AC compressor on and felt a little in the passenger seat.

I don't understand why the US version doesn't have a moonroof. In Canada, we have the option of a moonroof and turn signals on the side mirrors. A top-of-the-line Accent (Auto) is $18,400. I'm planning to have one! ^_^

people talk crap in the internet. Most people in US don't drive that fast or need that much power. You're totally right. My Crown Vic 4.6L (4100 lbs) had 205 hp when I bought it (which was plenty) but for ego reasons I hopped it up to now around 260. I never use that much! My mom's Altima 2.5L (3100 lbs) has 150 hp AND 4.10:1 final ratio gears and is PLENTY for driving around. I couldn't imagine how great 140 hp is in one of these little things.

He does bring up some good points. However, I don't think he realizes that Hyundai waits about a year to add the special equipment such as gps, etc... Look at the Sonata. One year later after the redesign, there is a turbo and a hybrid one with the bells and whistles. There might be a power moon roof on the 2013 model of accent. It's a great car, and I'm getting the 2013 model. The GLS model is better than he says. I'm getting that one.

Can't really say Hyundai copied anyone else with the styling. If you compare this new Accent HB with the older i30 (we get it here but its not available in the North American market. You get the wagon version and its badged Elantra Touring) you'll see its an evolution of that design, just in a more compact package. The Fiesta also came out 2008, with the i30, so unless there was some espionage going on, its just coincidental they look similar

@nikemac84 No, It's not like that! I am European citizen (Romanian citizen, more precisely), I've been a while in US, now i live in Canada and I think that the subcompact cars, here in North-America, have a different target than in Europe: in EU, Accent It's a car for an average family, but here in North-America, Accent is for young couples with no kids yet or for single users (a family car here in North-America is suppose to be a midsize sedan or a small SUV).
@nikemac84

Haha>>>>>>It's available with a sunroof here in Canada...... And in Europe it's available with navigation system, leather seats, rearview camera with monitor, and rear parking sensors.........I think Europeans, Japanese and other countries don't think North Americans are as "Sophisticated" as they are...

Hyundai is making all others in the auto industry fret! In 2012, oil prices will make you fret as well. What to do? Use water-gas as it will make all vehicle run much better due to the high octane. If you ask me how to get the water-gas I will show you

why the hell is 140hp considered "not enough" in the US. i mean it's a small, light car and most americans sleep on the highway doing 65....you don't need more than 65hp for that :P in Europe regardless of your speed, there's always a Toyota Aygo trying to overtake you on the motorway lol

So, CNET reviewers think that the major experience of having and driving a car, is its media center? If that would be so, people would just buy media centers only, and stopped short of buying cars, it's cheaper that way. The you know you see a bad salesmen, when it's obvious that he/she thinks that buyers are dumb.

Excellent and outstanding car, bad review. The Accent when it came out in 2012 one-upped every competitor and still does in 2015 in many ways. Hyundais are the most reliable and highest quality of car you can buy in non-premium brand. That should be taken into account. Every year Hyundai has improved the Accent due to customer feedback: 2012, 2013, etc until now. It has more features now than when this current model started. It's replacement will be out soon and it will be interesting to see the next direction an already good car is going.

Guy Portmonteau Hey im glad i found someone who can tell me about hyundai's reliability. I am looking for a car with low price and HIGH reliability. What is more reliable, hyundai or toyota? I know that old hyundai's were not very relieable in the past but hyundai has stepped up their game since then. Have you owned your hyundai for a long time? Any problems with it since purchase? Any details you could share would help. Thanks!
@guyportmonteau5021

Hyundais have been more reliable than Japanese cars at least since fluidic sculpture design phase came about or maybe before. That would be 2010 and forward. Maybe as far back as 2006 (idea based off of reading reviews and stats from digital press and printed). I had an Accent for three years, no problems but only a minor oxygen sensor (replaced in the first 30,000 miles for free under warranty). Nothing unsafe or drastic. The car had no recalls for the 2012 model year and the car has been improved every year since. If you can find a new one right, sometimes a base one with a manual could be around $10,000.00 (not claiming that, but have seen it). I put over 100,000 miles on it and used it to the extreme. I consider getting another one and might wait for the 2017 model year for myself, but if I commute a lot more I might not wait and get a '15. It's been my favorite car out of all I've owned, and the most reliable, also much safer than you would think (saved everyone's life in one situation). Accents or low maintenance mostly also. Even Elantras are good too, many will drop prices as the 2017's come in soon.

With all of the Japanese cars going to CVT transmissions, THANK GOD there still is this little car that offers a regular geared automatic, and a 6-speed at that too ! Honda has dropped its 5-speed unit in the Civic, so no Civic for me thank you. The new Honda FIT also has a CVT for it's automatic. Toyota has it's old 4-speed auto on the Corolla, but you cannot get cruise control on that one and in Canada we need cruise control or otherwise you get speeding tickets too easily. The Toyota Yaris has that 4-speed auto thing also, and ONLY comes with ONE WIPER ARM, not two as most cars have. Mazda has a wonderful 6 speed automatic in their Mazda3, but those cars RUST WAY TOO QUICKLY, so no thanks. German cars leave you stranded on the side of the road after 4 or 5 years, so no V-W for me either. The Kia Forte and Elantra now have the 2.0L engine and fuel efficiency has taken a huge hit, so no thanks. I don't want Domestic, had way too many problems with them in the past. The Versa HB has a CVT, and I hate CVTs. That only leaves the Accent as a fuel-efficient hatchback that comes with a geared automatic, and has cruise control available. (and it can come in a nice BLUE color too.)
