2012 Kia Sorento SX AWD In Depth Review, Start Up, Exhaust, and Test Drive

Absolutely the most comprehensive and best review of the Sorento available on the web. Just went through the agonizing process of replacing a much loved Saab 9-5 wagon and decided on this precise model. That decision was considerably aided by this review; I found myself returning to it over and over again as I was comparing features and specs of various candidate vehicles. Ultimately, the Sorento beat out a 2013 Subaru Outback Limited. Very happy with the choice.

We're on our second Sorento. Most reliable vehicles we've ever owned. Awesome on fuel, great in winter, great features and really good warranties too! Only one complaint. Around 100,000 kms on both vehicles, the rear wheel hub assemblies went out. Other than that, only oil changes and basic maintenance needed. 😊

My Mom has a 2011 Kia Sorento, and she absolutely loves it. She had a Dodge Caravan for a while, but it hit its last legs in 2014. She has told people that when it’s time to get a new car, she’s getting another Kia Sorento

I've owned two, and will be getting them as long as they are able to be found. First one was an '11 base model 2wd 4cyl, at 30k miles. Drove it to 150k with ZERO PROBLEMS, other than normal battery, belts, fluids, and sold it running like a top 5 yrs later. Handles very well, like a sports car vs a sloppy suv. Pretty quick for a 4, because of that transmission and a very good engine. Highly recommend either excellent tires or snow tires in the winter, as she is a bit light in the front with that 4cyl. I still own the second, a '12 SX 2wd V6. Very very quick, very nice interior, comfort and NAV. Got it with 78k, and ran it to 167k in 5yrs with ZERO ISSUES. Anyone who knocks kia, needs to look at these two years, and avoid the GDI versions altogether. Most reliable pair of vehicles I have owned in 35yrs. This one is a bit better in the snow with the extra engine weight.

Great review. I have a 2012 kia sorento. No issues with at all in 7 months. The interior is awesome and I love the exterior. I got a great deal for it. My only issue is that I wish it got maybe 5-10 miles per gallon more. I drove from Miami to San Diego full of all my possessions weighing it down and it got 20-21 mpg the whole trip which is ok.

My wife just bought one, she is not home yet so I was watching this review. Looks very nice. We test drove an EX which had a 3rd row, she sat in the 3rd row and said it was quite adequate and she is 5'8". So a couple kids will be fine and that's really what the 3rd row is for anyway. The one problem I noticed right away is NO power lift gate? @ $37,000 are you kidding me? I am hoping that is an option and I hope my wife got it if it was. Great review though, thanks.

Wow you sir make the best car reviews on KZbin. Every question i had you answered somewhere in the video, i loved the test drive you showed how the car performed well. I dont usually like Three row seat SUV's but i have to say the Kia Sorento has me thinking twice and the fact that the third row seats can be folded down completley and it can still keep its Mid size SUV look is incredible. You sir need to make more deep in depth videos like this one. :-) you are great.

We have one of these, but its an EX V6 FWD. Don't really have need for AWD where we live. Still have the nav and everything. Its a pretty nice car, I don't like SUVs much and this car won't change my opinion, but we took it on a road trip and it was pretty comfortable.

that's a better steering wheel then Kia Optima Turbo I drove today. Felt like plastic. And the steering FEEL was superior in the Sorento as well. Nice review.

Well, no. The Sorento has full-time AWD. It cannot be turned off. However, you may be confused by the fact that rear wheels are only engaged when slippage is detected in the front wheels. In most situations this means that it's a FWD system. However, even then, the AWD option does cost mpg's both as a result of the extra weight and the additional friction associated with the system's connection to the rear wheels.

You know, a fully-loaded Chevrolet Traverse costs about the same and it has: more powerful engine, bigger interior, same fuel economy, and has a power liftgate. Which is very useful if you have your hands full. Not to mention more room behind the third row.

No power lift gate option. Sorry. It's an odd omission considering the other features. However, the hydraulics are well designed and the lift gate goes up and down very easily. And with the keyless entry the lift gate can be opened without unlocking any other doors.

You said Sorento competes with Rav4 and Honda CR-V, but isnt Sorento much bigger than those two? Kia has a direct competitor for those 2 already, the Sportage.

I have to say, for $37,000 you do get a lot....nice paint job, and interior is amazing, however I have test drove one of these myself in the v6 is silky smooth, but the ride just like you said kyle is more on the sporty stiff side, something i'm not in favor of on a family SUV, something that's not going to be hitting th track, wish it was a little plusher and while I test drove the sorento I messed with the center diff lock, takes a while to engage but works great, nice vid as always kyle.

You may have got a lemon. I've got an older Kia Sorento (2005 EX BL Upgrade) and it's been great for me. Only problem is that I need to get better tyres. I find myself sliding out while going around sharp corners in the rain.
