Best video on KZbin for this repair. Good angles, lighting, and short video. Do keep in mind if you’re reading this, you do not need to remove the microphone and speaker when removing the heat sink

my macbook become very hot, is the thermal paste the problem? im not sure, never changed the thermal paste since I got it in 2015...
@zycklacon95885 жыл бұрын
Bertuzzi it may be. You should change it since Apple is notorious for putting bad thermal paste. Make sure you clean out the fan too.

If you're new to this I would take a picture w/ phone of the macbook pro w/o cover, & printout & lay screws on printout from where you took them from ... I use a magnetic sheet from Staples, under the printout to hold the screws from moving.
@112Famine2 жыл бұрын
btw, this is a good time to check if any ports are loose, & a good time to future proof them with a drop of epoxy placed to hold down the housing but NOT cover the contacts.

Surely that keyboard backlight was a pain in the ass. I added some metal tape so i could pull it a bit. Also added some metal tape from the fan to the heat sink, just like on the older macs, so it conduct heat more efficiently. Then I added some iso tape over it so it does not contact anything, again, just like on my 2006 Macbook. I booted it up and it works like a charm now. Thanks for the cool video! It really helped me through this. Big THUMBS UP!

As the boards get old this connector bears all the time no matter how careful you are. Apple used cheap plastic.

Hey! great video. Quick question, what is the reason for removing the speaker before removing the heatsink? It doesn't look like it's in the way, is it relevant to remove? I shall be attempting this in a couple weeks on my younger brothers laptop as it has heat issues.

There is no reason to remove the speaker

I just posted the same thing half of those that watched this mentioned about removing the speaker & mic, but while he was in there he should have replaced the decade old SSD, maxed out the ram, & replaced the rechargeable battery. I was even thinking about epoxying all the side ports with a drop or less, just to future proof it b/c they're always what break loose on me, as in gluing down the port housing to the PCB, & making sure not to get any on the contacts, but if they're screwed down, just using blue liquid locknut would be better. Guess I should liquid locknut all of the screws, after testing everything is working. I am about to do all I listed & repaste the CPU, just need to find whats the fastest SSD & ram it can handle so I do not buy better then it can use. Also want to see if I can get a better longer lasting battery. Shame the CPU isn't socketed so it could also be upgraded. Guess I could look into replacing the motherboard with a new update/upgraded model that will fit, & still use the same display & keyboard/mouse & all the ribbons cables used with my older model. LOL hell the latest Raspberry Pi ARM CPU is probably a few times better 🤣 And why is this video called "Heat Sink Replacement" it's a heatsink repasting.

Why was the speaker & mic removed from the board?
@zoheibomar53692 жыл бұрын
There aren't 7 short phillips head screws, the four on the bottom have a little shoulder to them. And then the two on the middle left and right are shoulderless as well as the one on the top left.

Nice video. Bit rough in areas, but overall a good video. Your thermal paste application was spot on, in my opinion. I'm of the same belief that you don't need to spread it out etc or put LOADS on.

Thank you.

Good time to replace the SSD, max out the ram, & replace the rechargeable battery, all things found on Amazon, Newegg, or Ebay. Also don't even start unless you have the right tools, you do not want to strip out the screws, but if you already did, you can buy new ones on ebay.

A little fast for me, but between this and the instructions on iFixit, I got it done. The ZIF ribbon with tape trick is key. Thanks as this video was really helpful. I didn’t have to touch the speaker. That is an unnecessary step.

greetings and congrulations for your tutorials! I think you are the person in charge of helping me! I have a macbook mid 2010 13” and I managed to change the thermal paste wharching your video ! The only problem is that something odd happens. The laptop works only without the bottom cover. if I put the cover, the computer stays stuck, the fan runs at max speed. Somethimes computer start but the wifi dosent work. Any ideas? I would be grateful for some advice. A good day!
@GRIBSOFT6 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, there is a loose connection or slight misalignment that is causing a short contact. The best advice in this situation is the daunting task of completely removing the logic board and reinstalling it as if you did the procedure again. This will assure you reconnect everything. Trust me, it seems pointless but will fix most issues 90% of the time.

There might be a particle somewhere on the board that's creating a short. My advice is to take out the board and clean it with 99% alcohol and a toothbrush, then reassemble.

This tutorial damages the mic... DO NOT THIS VIDEO TUTORIAL!
@Anon-vu4ii3 жыл бұрын
I just did this tutorial. While it is easy to damage the mic, you must pry the mic off the glued surface like he did in the video. (You do not have to remove the speaker or mic cable once you’ve removed the motherboard, I don’t know why he did this). Even if you do end up damaging your mic, it’s just a small and cheap peripheral that can be replaced by unplugging the old one and plugging a new one in. So do the repair, it will be fine. I did it and it worked for me (I ripped the cables off my mic by accident but as I mentioned earlier, I just plugged a replacement in. No big deal)
