Independence Day had the best destruction scenes in movie history until now. Wow, 2012's effects are incredible. And what a coincidence, both movies are by the same director. Roland Emmerich sure does love blowing stuff up, doesn't he? Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012... what's next?

Actually, pole-shifts do happen once in a while (couple of thousand years)(detectable by the orientation of the iron in the iron-ore). The thing is that it is not harmful to anybody or anything. The only problem is that at the moment the poles switch (which is a very short period) the magnetic field of our earth is disrupted. If at that exact time a solar-storm would arrive on earth, we would be pretty screwed.. But the changes of that happening are almost nihil.

I thought it was an excellent movie. A couple of parts I thought were lame or hokie, but I give it a strong A. Loved the special effects and some of the underlying stories were quite emotional. I have been researching and doing my "homework" on this whole 2012 idea for about 6 years now. Its alot to take, but I am still not for certain what will happen. Maybe nothing, but this world will end one day, could be tomorrow, could be 1000 years from now.

You have a point. My dad told me the plane flying around all the falling debris is unrealistic. If the ground in collapsing, and the plane is rising, the ground would just fall beneath the plane, without it having to dodge anything.

Cant wait to see this on imax, the special effects look bigger and better than any cgi movie ive seen to date. Don't care about the cheesy plot as i just wanna see how big and detailed the disaster sequences are on the big screen.

Hi, I did some research too. I don't know if we should hang on to a date like 21 dec 2012, but I do know that everything, happening in the film, is a realistic thing. The huge fractures that appear in the movie are real. I've learned about them last year, they exist, but they haven't opened YET. I mean, tsunamis, shockwaves,vulcanos ,.. These things CAN happen. we can't say why or in what order they will appear, but one day it will all be there in some way. P.S: I loved the movie!!

I like how the reporter said the planets are going to align. That's not only on 2012, it happens every year. The jupiter effect every century. Yet we're still here. Hey, i got to give credit to the special effects crew of this movie, i give it an A+, beautiful rendition of what end of earth would look like. However, the science is an astronomical F. With that said, don't worry for any of you who do, which i know there are who do, you'll be waking up in 2013 safe and sound.

I just want to point something out. The Mayans were an ancient people. Most ancient civilization viewed the world in a VERY different way. For instance, we see things as having a beginning and an end. The Mayan calendar reflects how they viewed the world: it was cyclical. What we see as the "end" of their calender is just the "end" of an age... which will revert right back to year 1. This movie looks awesome though. :)

I am liking every comment to prepare the people for 2020, when we changed calenders it shifted us 8 years, so 2020 is 2012 in the calender they used. The world may not end this way, but it may be less populated due to the wars that may start, the viruses, and many more things

Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow were both awesome movies, and I think this will be awesome too! And did anyone else notice that the date it comes in theaters, November 13, is a Friday? It comes out on a Friday the 13th! I wonder if that was intentional.

yeah, i watched in theaters in friday (the day it came out), it was 2 hours and 38 min. long, so longer than the ave. movie. its sad, overall i would give it a 6 out of a 10. it was alright movie
