The gas tank was sitting on empty and the salesman didn't seem to want me to drive it much so that to me was a red flag so I backed out of it. I instead found a very clean 2016 Lexus es 300h with 76,000 miles thru the dealership. Paid $21,600. Still driving it today with 166,000 miles and not a single issues I've had with it. Not even new breakpads. Only did the suggested maintenance which costs a pretty penny but hey, if it keeps issues from occurring, then it's worth it!

I really enjoy my GS 450h. Normally it's a very composed, relaxed car to drive but put it in Sport+, floor the gas pedal and it goes from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in an instant. Overtaking is rapid, 60 to 90 mph takes less than 5 seconds, and once that slowpoke in front of you has turned into a dot in your mirror you go back to relaxed cruising.

@@MeynMotorGroup You succeed in that. Thanks for your LS and GS reviews from a Lexus driver. I'm driving a 2010 LS460, should I consider a 2012 GS450h? What's your opinion?
@gwilli17544 ай бұрын
I am not sure to compare them: I have the 460 engine on a GX and the GS450. The GSF is closer in engine feel to the LS460, and the GS450H is the perfect hybrid: it is plenty capable without hybrid, but when needed, it does it without vibration and fuss. So, I think of the 450H like the limo powertrain for Lexus. Of course, it is on its way out for buzzy turbos, which are its opposite.

Very good review...a solid overview of everything the car has to offer. In 2018, I bought a used 2013 GS450h ....and after almost two years and 40,000 miles of driving, I still love it as much as the day I brought it home. Normally after owning a car for a while, you'll identify a few minor problems or things you don't like about it...but with the GS450h, I've yet to find any significant negatives or shortcomings. (Okay, I'm not a fan of the mouse controller for the entertainment/info GUI....but this is a minor annoyance based on personal preference, and I don't use it much anyway.) As of this writing, my car has 113K miles total and has been 100% reliable since the day I bought it....absolutely no issues whatsoever. I'm averaging roughly 32 mpg for normal everyday driving (slightly higher on the interstate, slowly lower in the city)...but this will vary according to your driving style. More aggressive driving results in 28-30 mpg; you can get closer to 35-36 mpg by driving conservatively with liberal use of EV mode. (Note that EV mode only works up to 25 mph, at which point the V6 kicks on.) A couple points worth mentioning: The EV mode button effectively bypasses the V6 motor and uses only the electric motor for 100% electric operation. This uses zero gas and makes the car almost completely silent, which is *very* cool....but it only works for short periods. Once the hybrid battery runs low or if you exceed 25 mph or accelerate beyond the capabilities of the 100hp electric motor, the V6 kicks in automatically to provide power and recharge the hybrid battery. (Once you get a feel for it, EV mode can help maximize fuel efficiency while starting from a dead stop or for driving at lower speeds through residential areas; it can also help conserve fuel if you're sitting in traffic or waiting in line at a drive-thru.) There's also the Sport mode, which is actually two modes in one: Sport and Sport+. Flipping the button once enables the basic Sport mode, which makes the engine's throttle response noticeably more aggressive at lower RPMs and provides fast and powerful acceleration. Flipping the button a second time enables "Sport+" mode; this keeps the same aggressive Sport-mode throttle response, while also tightening up the suspension and steering response for a slightly sportier feel. It's not a dramatic difference.....after all, we're still talking about a 4000-lb sedan; it's not gonna handle like a Porsche or Ferrari. But on a winding road with a lot of turns, S+ mode does seem to tighten up the steering just a touch and the wheels hug the road just a little bit closer. It's not a dramatic difference, but it's there. It's also worthing noting that the GS450h is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven. My job requires a lot of driving, often 200-400 miles in a day, and I've driven a lot of different car. This is one of the only cars i've driven that remains comfortable after 4-6 hours of driving; I'm not pulling over every couple hours to stretch or constantly adjusting my body and/or seat position to try and get comfortable. (As I mentioned earlier, my car is almost 8 years old and has 113K miles on it....and it's still more comfortable than many brand-new cars I've driven). It's a great car from top to bottom. No complaints at all.

Have had my 2013 GS40h for 5 years now. Bought in 2015 with 13K on the odo. The reliability has been stunning. 0-60 mph is quick, but the 50-90 mph rolling jump will shock the average driver. Beautiful timeless interior. I did a gift coupon Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin Vantage coupe drive last year and only the Aston came close to my Lexus in terms of interior design. I’ve achieved 45MPG using “hypermiling”, typically because of my sometimes heavy foot, I can milk 29-30 MPG. Not bad for a stealth performance car. Lexus production of the car was limited because Lexus wanted to lower their corporate CAFE numbers. Makes the car more exclusive in my book.Living in the California Bay Area, I’ve seen tons of ES 300-350’s, but NEVER another GS450h.Great review, I hope to keep mine to 100K plus!

The start stop in Toyota Lexus hybrids is so smooth because they use a generator to start the car so the operation is very smooth. I had on 07 Camry hybrid and currently a 2015 Gs 450h f sport and it’s not noticeable at all. The company has had decades to get and perfect this technology. Now my 2013 bmw 328 xdrive has start stop “technology” if that’s what u want to call it and it uses the starter and the process is clunky, annoying an cumbersome. The car jerks and if you have the a/c on it’s like the engine wants to die when it starts back up and the compressor simultaneously kicks on. I turn this feature off in the bmw. The Lexus really does feel natural and perfectly mated to the tech

@MeynMotorGroup5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Nick and yea I really enjoyed this car and you def should keep it for a few year! Really powerful car too
@nickregnier15 жыл бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup Indeed. The way it delivers the power is very linear and gradual so not like many other vehicles where they give you the turbo power making the wheels spin too fast. This car is not designed to do this and it is such a lovely feel to it when pressing the gas - it is steady and well-grounded car. If you do 60mph on the motorway and press on the accelerator for overtaking it will accelerate suddenly really fast and gives you this loud bang from engine, which is so lovely. People in other vehicles overtaken by this car often are surprised as they do not expect this kind of power deliver from a Hybrid. This 3.5 V6 engine with CVT is a treat and works perfectly in balance! If we compare it to the new ES, I think the new ES300h is lacking the power and real wheel drive feel that the GS provides. Without a doubt, the GS450H is a luxurious car but without too being too luxurious, which is perfect if you do not want to make a strong statement.
@MeynMotorGroup5 жыл бұрын
That’s a perfect explanation of why this car is so great Nick. Yes it’s not like a Turbo car the power delivery is super linear but you get the immediacy of the power in all power ranges due to the electric power which is awesome it really is a great sensation for sure and will surprise a lot of people as it certainly surprised me. Such a rare car tho, not many can take advantage of this as there is not a lot for sale, only a handful in all of America
@nickregnier15 жыл бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup I agree and it is a shame that there are not that many GS450H in America. You see I live in the UK London, so in Europe, car consumers have been ditching Diesel more and more due to VW scandals, and also many Governments in Europe have been encouraging drivers to replace cars with cleaner fuel or energy. So Lexus is doing brilliantly now and better than before the VW diesel scandal erupted, as Lexus was one of the few companies that ditched Diesel (before its scandal) and all car journalists at the time were criticising Lexus for not offering Diesel any longer. Now Lexus is being praised and is leading the Hybrid market with Toyota - people are realising how advanced Lexus was thinking in offering more sustainable and environmentally friendly cars. If you drive a Lexus Hybrid, you contribute to improving the environment. In my personal case, I have been driving my GS Lexus (for the first time) over a year ago. And also in London, we have got to change how we drive, as we have congestion charge and ULEZ tax that applies to vehicles that are not meeting new emission limits - so we have no choice but to seek newer and cleaner vehicles...

Strange, but my wife still loves it with 67k miles behind her. Perfect car for her since she accelerates aggressively wasting gas in town, and most of that is handled by the electric assist really saving the powertrain and gas. Brilliant video again! I totally agree about the paddle shifts! I have them and consider them completely pointless. I love the relaxation that goes with driving the CVT. I don't see the point of pretending it has gears with the paddles - I'll save that for Forza Motorsport. :) I love our hybrid! The IS300h is nowhere near as fast as your GS450h being only a 2.5 four cylinder at 220BHP, but I love the instant torque available from the electric motor when you plant your foot. And they're so quick from standstill!

You should try the Acura RLX, it competes in the same class as the Lexus GS 350. Oddly enough though, the RLX rides better & has a quieter cabin than the Lexus in the later versions. @@MeynMotorGroup more like a ridiculous turbodiesel craze. Pay (slightly) less at the pump, release slightly less CO2 (assuming not vs an atkinson hybrid and warmed up), face problems that make 335i's (well, n54/n55/etc) look cheap to run, emit a good deal more NOx and PM and feature tons of exhaust treatment. Nevermind noise, vibrations, kle-kle-kle exhaust. Not overexaggerating too much. Diesel-cycle engines are simply hard to make clean out of the combustion chamber (lean burn with bad mixing and atomization - basically lean burn GDI but worse)... Mazda is the only manufacturer that I know of that has tried, and their skyactiv diesel is apparently quite effective - way better real-world emissions, even without using SCR. Then again, they have their regular skyactiv and the skyactiv-x, so... :P CO2 emissions in Europe are "strict", taxes are big and largely depend on engine displacement and top-end power (disregard actual fuel consumption or other emissions), diesel is generally cheaper than petrol. Japan and the US (CARB) both have extremely strict emissions standards, the EU gave diesel cars a lot of slack on that front - nevermind the real-world emissions. Result - turbodiesel with a chiptune and EGR/DPF/everything deleted/blanked off is extremely common. Probably explains why we don't get the IS/GS350 over here... same for the v6 rav4's/camrys/etc. I hate this place...

Actually I just started, like, watching your videos of the used car market. To be honest, I actually really like the content. The ride in Lexus vehicles is actually, like, very nice. However, sometimes less is more, certainly when using emphasis words “like” “actually” which can absolutely be distracting at best and irritating at worse. Not suggesting a script is [actually] necessary but avoiding the same word twice in the same sentence is essential writing and grammar. “I am not going to lie”, selective use of alternates is a sign of an expansive vocabulary.. In most cases emphasis words like “actually”, that” or “like” are not needed at all. Clear and concise should be the goal.
