Yesss, finally! Gotta appreciate how well Honda’s and Acura’s hold up. Not a single rattle, drives pretty much how it did from new, no wonky shifts, solid. Not necessarily exciting, but just nice.

Yes. Very impressive how well built Japanese vehicles are. This is how every car should feel.
Truth! I have a 2012 TL SH-AWD with nearly 180k. Even against the terrible WI rural roads the thing stays together like no other. Only two small rattles I can find, and one of them I can fix by just pressing on the sun visor a little bit. More than capable of having fun on twisty back roads, but a really good cruiser otherwise. Just wish the mileage was a bit better lol.

It would be cool for you to do a followup video with the ELS stereo in your Dad's Tech Wagon. By the way, the head unit is by Alpine, while the stereo in my base wagon is by Panasonic.
@LarryCook19604 жыл бұрын
I've owned a 2012 since 2014, so I'll add a few points not mentioned in the video. The front seats are very comfortable for a guy of average weight and height, and visibility is better than average for a wagon / suv type of vehicle. This car comes with an air pump loaded with fix-a-flat type goo. No spare tire. I obtained a space saver spare, removed the rigid foam tray under the load area, and the spare now has a place to hide. The transmission is a Honda 5-speed auto, which means it's very different than a conventional automatic with planetary gears. When it shifts, gears actually slide together similar to a manual. This may be what he was feeling when he mentioned the shifting. There are two different stereo systems possible with this car, mine has the lesser of the two. However, this is the first car I've owned (age 60) that I didn't immediately replace the speakers. Excellent sound from the factory 4 door speakers, 2 high mounted tweeters, and 7" subwoofer in the back. A USB input reads MP3 or WAV files, and will do a full shuffle if you wish. The roof rails are excellent for mounting rack rails, since the front and rear cross rails can be very far apart, for use with canoes and longer kayaks. The battery in this car is just physically too small, (51R) which you will find out if you live in a cold climate and don't drive the car for a week. You may discover a dead battery, no matter its age. I obtained a battery tray and hold down for a V6 TSX Sedan, and installed a much larger type 24F battery. Another winter issue is the heater, which is kinda weak. I think the engine simply doesn't waste a lot of gas producing waste heat, since I've often noticed 35 mpg on the highway, and 27 in town. Anyway, wear warm socks. One odd problem I experienced was under hood wiring that certain large eared rodents find tasty. A rabbit eating your soy based wire insulation can really ruin your week. Another issue was the side exterior windshield trim, which is held on with double stick tape, and has a habit of flying off the car while cruising on the highway. Oh, one more thing. It really doesn't feel under powered. 0-60 in around 7.5 seconds is good enough to get most people to work each day, and an electronically limited top speed of 137 mph is enough for most grocery shopping trips. www.topspeed.com/cars/acura/2013-acura-tsx-sport-wagon-ar157886.html

Regarding the OEM battery, I replaced mine with the AAA 51R version, and it cranks far better than the OEM battery....especially in cold weather. This wagon is some of the best old school work by Honda in years.

I have owned a 2012 base TSX Wagon for 4 years, and it is one hell of a sweet daily driver! Great review, btw. I have owned Hondas since my first Prelude in 1983, and including a 95 Legend GS and two RSX coupes. This wagon was built to compete in the European market, and the build quality is obvious. The ELS stereo in that 2013 is a superb sound system. My wagon feels exotic in that I go for weeks without seeing another one on the road. Finding this wagon in 2016 with 26k on the clock for $20,000 out the door is one of the best investments I have ever made for driving pleasure and practicality. Thanks for doing this review!

I bought the base version in 2012, my wife got one with the tech package in 2013. This car grows on you. It dies everything well (like an Accord) and they are bulletproof. Nothing but routine maintenance plus normal wear and tear on brakes, tires and wipers. This came with more standard equipment than the 2002 Audi A6 wagon that I also bought new I got rid of that car. Almost everything in it broke or malfunctioned after 2 years. I baby my cars but that thing was a gigantic piece of #@#@
@brichpmr4 жыл бұрын
This wagon is old school Honda in the best way....no tech 'nannies' to distract the driver. The engine bay is well laid out. A 6-speed would be cool, but I use the paddle shifters for engine braking quite frequently. On road trips to Cape May (back before the Pandemic), I would get 34 mpg easily on 91 octane. I swapped out the OEM tires for new Michelin Pilots, and have less road noise as a bonus. My spouse was concerned initially because she thought I would not be happy, coming from the Prelude/RSX sporty coupe world. But now, she loves the wagon like I do. This would actually be about the size of a Civic SI wagon if Honda ever made one these days.

Acura seemed to forget what the brand was after they stopped producing the Legend, and they have never in my HOP found their place again. Their designs have been ugly and long gone is the luxury of the brand. They would be smart to give rebirth to the Legend which made them so famous and find their way back into the game.

Something interesting I just noticed was the note you made about the gear shifter. In my 2013 Honda Civic, my gear shifter has the same mechanism. You have to pull the shifter up compared to in. You're meant to hold your hand on top of it so by pulling it "in" you automatically pull the button up. Compared to your hand holding it around the side, and pulling the button in. To be honest, it's more comfortable doing it this way. Its interesting to see that they recycled this mechanism but re-designed it purely for this car.

Comfortable, powerful when it needs to be. +2 cylinders? nah, I don't miss it. Only problem can be with your engine is, it could use a bit more oil than supposed to, but there was a recall as I know. No chip/re-tune, no S/C, no turbo - NOTHING. The tranny can handle massive power, as can the motor - but NO. I do like the reliability and utility. Have had two coil packs fail. That's it. Final word: really drive it prior to buying it - I would have taken a pass on it if I had spent more time behind the wheel prior.
