5:35 do not leave the power flat cables attached to the power spply as shown here. use t5 to remove the grll cover on the power supply and remove the flat cables. hen putting everything back, you need to put the flat cables underneath the cpu board, and through the holes in the cooling block. it is unnecessary and almost impossible to put everything back leavaving the flat cables attached to the power supply.

@@tekdep ​ 👍 I used your video to disassemble my macpro. It was very helpful. The problem was that the ssd just died. However, I dismantled everything to clean and check the thermal paste etc bec. it's been many years since I upgraded this machine. I also wanted the clean and reseat everything because it was freezing on some runs. I mean sometimes I would turn it on and it would run for days without a problem but sometimes I would turn it on and it would freeze in about an hour or so. I remember many people were having similar problems back in the day so either it is a fabrication problem or maybe there was a dirt or something in the connectors or maybe it is the engineering sample cpu I am using. Anyways, even when it freezes, I could still ssh into it and use it or restart it from command line but whne it freezes, it has something to do with the graphics system that I'm sure. such a shame... I'm hoing cleaning all the boards, connectors and appliying contact cleaner and changing the thermal paste etc would help. We'll see. I now have to order a converter for propriety ssd connector to nvme adapter.

@@Mr_ToRhow did everything turn out? I'm about to do this dissembly and cleaning too, along with new thermal paste on GPU n CPU, and memory upgrade. do you notice some improvements after cleaning?

@@teckno_senpai It turned out ok. It turned out the clening was a must!!!. It was very dirty and I've always used it in a very clean environment. I think there definitely is a problem with my gfx card but everything became more stable now. The original apple ssd died so I had to replace it with a modern one so it became faster. Also my os was on sierra but sierra does not allow 3rd party ssd. So I upgraded os to Mojave which allows 3rd party ssd. The reason I did not go to a higher os is because Mojave is the latest os that natively supports 32 bit applications. After mojave macos supports 64 bit only. I have many 32bit plugins also WinXP running on Parallels.

This thing was ahead of it's time. I remember the whining about the kraken situation, with people having to externaly attach all their tiny HDD drives and ODD, which became a non issue just a year or two later. It feels like nobody really appreciated just how amazing the internal design for this baby was and how much upgrade potential the user had if apple would have sold individual parts. Could have been something great, if both sides worked together.

Thank you Andre, Wifi card is located on the top section of the Mac Pro and it under the shiny black plastic cover that that is glued to the Mac Pro, you can separate it using your pry tool and access the wifi card, good luck

Is there a way to visually identify which graphic card (D300, D500, D700) a trashcan has without booting it? I can't find a guide to the part numbers.

Just only for good alternative from M-series Mac mini. And even then you deal with 200+W Power consumption

Ive been digging thru the depths of the internet trying to find and answer, with no luck. Maybe you can be a beacon of light. I updated mac os on my mac pro 6.1 a week ago, it was fine for several days. One day I did some video editing, rendered off a video and later in the night shut down as normal. When I booted back up the next day, no signal from HDMI on my monitor. Tried diff cables and even plugged in an old mac LED monitor via mini display port, with nothing. So either its a software/driver issue, but how am I supposed to even reformat a mac without seeing the screen? or the GPU has incidentally failed. If you have any words of wisdom on what to try or do, I would be eternally grateful. Cheers Lonesome Dog

Hello Lonesome Dog, Base on what I know the Gpu cards on this models has some weakness and lately due to the age many started to go bad and fail, one sign of going bad is few second's of pixelated display image when unit start up, and base on what your telling me I would assume the worse, it's possible that one of the two AMD Fire Pro Cards in your A1481 Mac, changing them is not that hard but they cost a lot, here is a link where you can find different and fire pro graphic cards. tekdep.com/?s=amd+firepro&post_type=product good luck

If you want to reformat, remove the ssd and install in a MacBook Pro/Air that is 2013 to 2015 model and reformat or reinstall an older osx, before removing the ssd try booting up in safe mode, maybe that works so you have chance to format. 1.Power on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up. 2.Release the key when you see the login screen. 3.Log in to macOS.

Folder at startup means your operating system software is corrupted, try reinstalling the OS X, if you can’t access your drive using disk utility than try replacing your ssd and that may do the trick, clean the open and dust off the internal and place a fan facing your mac to avoid overheating as the graphic cards on this model do get bad time to time.

If there's no video output, what can be the reason? It starts up, the chime sound is there, the fan spins but no video

It really can be multiple possibilities, best to take it to repair shop or apple for diagnostic than fix it your self and change that part but here is a few thing that can be the reason, bad gpu.. maybe as amd graphic card do have issues in mac pro aka trash can, try starting us using safe mode, Booting up safe mode / Restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If you're able to boot safe mode than you know you have Gpu issue and need to replace one or both gpu cards. New, if safe mode is not helping, than make sure your monitor is oak, your osx is ok, and finally the actual video port your using is still giving signal.. if your using Hdmi for video, try using display port ( thunderbolt ) just to make sure issue is not the port... goodluck!

@@tekdep thanks for the quick reply! I just got this Mac for 25USD, not kidding, 25USD from a girl who posted the Mac on Facebook marketplace saying it was not working anymore. I'll try to get a DP cable otherwise I'll take it to Apple and see what can be done.

You can fit desktop rtx3080 and r9 5800 in that space with some proper engineering.. these parts in the trash can mac produce more than 400w of heat.

Thank you for this video, I currently have access to APPLE ATLAS and their own tutorials are horrible, and not to mention their videos are low quality and freeze all the time, you would think that being the richest company in the world they would have something way better but no, ATLAS website is horrible.

We still have one in the office, 2.7 twelve core with D700 & 128gb ram, I got to say it’s still a good system for the price.. but time to retiring it is approaching
