This is amazing I have been to the cider festival and it’s a cracking good little event I recommend going to it it has steam engines and working pressers and a saw bench good to see Andy and John making new forest cider 🍺👍👍

As the cider apples here have been mechanically picked from the orchard floor, the hopper has a web conveyer to move them to the star coils to remove sticks/leaves debris etc,when they drop into the wash tank any "blackrots" and mouldy apples are picked out by hand,the pressed juice is pumped into sterilised tanks rinsed with a sulphite solution,and after 24 hours we add a saccharomyses cerevisiea bayanus strain of yeast for fermentation,we have modernised the plant a bit more now have a look at the 2015 version!,all our ciders are "full juice for flavour"!

Barry Topp Why wait 24 hours? A purpose? Wild strains and bac will take hold.
@chawquee6 жыл бұрын
BeeRich33 from my own experience wild yeast is not controllable at all and it is risky , so using an effective strain of yeast is much more conenient and guaranteed.myself i produce apple cider vinegar

I'm suprised to see so many complaints about the quality of the apples, look like perfect apples for cider to me. These are exactly like the apples I use for cider and never had a bad batch, maybe the standard of eating apples in the shop has thrown people.

the apples are drops , but the product turns out great . I worked for a place making cider , our press was using burlap bags

mark young Glad you liked the video,it’s a Goodnature Squeezebox Press,with their coarse weave bags in use,if you’re interested there is a similar video on our 2015 season on there as well ,shows a few improvements,haven’t heard of burlap bags before?

I made aple cider in a large mill for years. We would never get a way with using those apples. However, apples like that make good cider. A mixture of apple make great cider if you know what apples to mix together. All I'm saying is New York State was very stricked. You never knew when the inspectors are coming. Which is ok because we weren't using apples like this cider mill is using

always makes me feel safer when making cider at home, when i see that you can put some pretty ugly looking (half rotten? 1:08) apples through your mill and still have a saleable cider! i do not mechanically harvest, but my apples do have a few bug bites.

apple cider usally made of industrial apple, which has aesthetical or size problems, but not rotten

Looks like proper farm cider to me! Do you have to suppress the wild yeasts before starting fermentation? I think we went a bit overkill with cleaning the apples up/cutting out black bits for our home brew....?

Those are some sad looking apples, wonder how many codling moths got crushed?
@barrytopp48436 жыл бұрын
Eric haskell They are mechanically harvested fruit off the grass floor of a traditional cider orchard, this will always pick up sticks leaves etc, so-leaving the hopper the fruit is run over the star coils to remove most of the debris,dropping into the tank so the black rots etc are picked out manually,in cider circles Codling moth larvae are viewed as added profile a yeast stimulant! In the You Tube videos there is a 2015 version showing improvements made to our set up.

i suppose it works out if they are still in business. never had their cider so i don't want to pass judgement...in the US i don't think anyone would be thrilled to see what that fruit looks like, but we are raised on perfect looking and heavily treated fruits after all.

The acid content kills most nasties and if its fermented even fewer survive. I bet you still eat hot dog sausages. Go look at how they're made. I guarantee you'll want a glass or two of this lovely stuff to settle your stomach

@akinma7 жыл бұрын
Good enough for your animals, but not good enough for you? Don't see the logic here. Those apples are perfectly good for cider. They have just began the fermenting process by themselves. And as you might know, cider is made by fermenting. Btw, human digestion is more tolerant to fermented products than your average animals'. That's due to certain environmental, cultural and evolutionary processes of human digest over thousands of years. So you are better eating those yourself, not feeding your animals. Also, I don't see anything to complain on the overall process. Floor looks like it's been washed every day etc.
