(5) c) By closing stage, heart rate must be stable. Tactical approach switch to zero risk active game, zero risk attacks, placements, staying at the table and giving no opportunities for opponent to come back, not even to try any high-risk shot (potential momentum changer). (4) b) Upon leading around 3 points, start to transit towards the closing stage. Start slowing down heart rate by controlled breathing, take some extra time between points. The usual tactical method I observed is via strong spin, slow speed, at serve, receive, or 1st loop. Only takes 1-2 points. Slowing heart rate is key. This step is most easily overlooked due to its short duration, and arguably most important as your body needs the time to slow back down after the initial super-excitement.

(2) It's because Dima couldn't close it down, XX just hung on until back to parity, and he raced away to close the match. It is also evident in many recent matches, including Euro Championships final, and this WC's quarter finals (TP gave up in that match, not so much as Dima winning with certainty). Heart rate racing away is the tell-tale sign. Dima just couldn't close it effectively.

(3) I believe the Chinese team had a set of procedures in closing the match, for the methods, the progression of tactics from one period to another are all very similar. In this match XX also fully displayed the required steps. a) Start off by going into overdrive tempo, winning every point with continuous shouts, much like soldier's war cry for super-motivation and intimidating enemies. Dima is already doing this well.

(1) Best match of the tournament. Once again Dima showed just how consistent is his rate of improvement over the last year or so, certainly 2nd most improved player in the world (behind FZD). In my books Dima is the better player here. XX is already showing signs of apprehension and Dima certainly had the hunger, belief, and ability to win, all except the methods of closing the match.
