What about the idea that we come to have a commonly-shared moral sense of right and wrong? Except when an individual is defined as an incompetent party (e.g., a sociopath, or someone who abuses alcoholic beverages or hallucinogenic drugs), we develop this moral sense of right and wrong as we become social creatures. We do not always behave according to this moral sense, but our behavior is more often than not governed thereby.
