FYI I have worked on these rear brakes for 11 years. Do not spin the piston out for adjustment. It will adjust on its own as the brakes are used. Pump the brakes a hundred times to get the pads to seat properly, especially old used pads. Make sure to replenish the brake fluid if required. When you put new pads on, spin the piston clockwise with the special tool until the piston is all the way in. Re: parking brake. The main cause for sticking rear calipers which wear the pads down prematurely is corroded parking brake cables.

why not spin it out to fill in any gap between the piston and pad? Other videos say to spin it out otherwise u might have issues with spongy brakes
@JMart62 жыл бұрын
Replace the pads and then it won’t be an issue.

@@JMart6 there is some sort of an issue that happen with these piston type calipers. I recently bought a van with these types of brakes on the rear, the PO said it had new brakes recently installed, but the brake pedal was spongy. Sure enough there was a little gap between the brand new brake pads and piston and neither piston would budge even after pumping the brake over 100 times. Talk about a leg workout lol. Anyways spinning/backing out the piston just a tiny little bit (but still making sure to line up the notch on the piston with the pad) fixed one of them but the other rear caliper piston wouldn't move even after being backed out a bit and had to be replaced. It almost seems like they were screwed too tightly/too far in to begin with

@@yeslawrence The brake fluid will push the piston out... that's how brakes work. There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to spin that piston, EVER. No matter what the 'mechanics' (lol sure) of KZbin say.

Well you have to spin it in…..and I believe it’s the parking brake you have to put on and off a bunch of times to adjust them… But I guess if you cut the cable ….maybe you spin it out ……sketchy

Great video. I'm no mechanic myself, but my 2014 caravan has spanky new brake pads, a new rotor and a new caliper! 👍. Thanks for giving us newbies some knowledge

The best explanation for these brakes. Thank you.

its good that you understand the principal of bleeding the brakes ,its simple. i had my brakes changed by a mechanic and he just pumped them without letting the air out ,i had to redo it when i came home.

Having the emergency brake cable cut is cheating. 😎. It is what I was looking for a tip for. I used zip ties to compress the fingers to get it out.

When I bleed brakes, I have my helper press the pedal 5 - 10x, hold it, and then open the bleeder screw. I do this several times until all the air is removed.

I think its funny that for a leak you changed the whole thing. Whereas, you can buy repair kit. A new caliper for an old and uneven brake pad? I'd rather have both sides replace the brake pads and repair the leak to be safe.

Thats a very wrong way to bleed the caliper. One must use a transparent tube to keep bleeding till all air bubles are gone.
@eddiesspeedgarage2 жыл бұрын
If the tube is transparent there is no need to monitor for bubbles
@Forevertaken0417 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure once you bleed the brakes the calipers will be adjusted to the correct setting manually by you depressing the pedal a few times

It’s always a good rule of thumb to pump up the brakes after every replacement. Believe me the one time you forget will make you wish you did!
