2014 Epic Road Trip | Travel Album Walkthrough is a detailed look at my epic 9x12” album documenting our very first cross-country road trip from 2014. Read more on my blog: www.createdbys...
In this video, I give a complete, page-by-page, look at a 9x12” album I used to document our epic cross-country adventure from a few years ago. If you are interested in seeing how I prepared for this album, the stash kit I built to work from, and how I started it, you can see that content in the #IMPTravel class from Theresa Moxley, which is still available here: theresamoxley....
For anyone interested in my tips for travel documentation, I have a guide I put together. You can get it on my blog website: www.createdbys...

My very first scrapbook from high school was of a family road trip to South Dakota. It was in a magnetic photo album. I had to take it all apart when I learned out bad those albums are and you have inspired me to take those photos out and scrapbook them again! Beautiful album.

I love having consistency throughout a project or album for the obvious reasons…I am a thematic/project specific scrapbooker but mainly just do things like what you did here. I do creative listing also in travelers notebooks and find it very comforting with one insert after another in a cover looks consistent too. I mainly use Simple Stories and Felicity Jane products with some printables from Cocoa Daisy and Traci Reed. A lot of the products these companies make seem to play well with each other and keep the consistency going. I love the results when I limit myself to these. Love what you did with everything and especially all the larger photos! Well done!

Great plan! I love how you’re picking and choosing products with great thought. I’m skipping WITL this year, but still have last year’s to do. I’m using this year’s hype to attack WITL 2021. 😉

What stunning documentation of your epic trip! I especially liked the transparent inserts and the way you added smaller photos to your large photos. Living on the East Coast, it's hard to imagine the vastness of other parts of the US - we are hoping to take a trip similar to yours to experience it for ourselves!

@@crystal5543 Oh wow! So amazing! We need to go back to Glacier because my husband slept through the whole day of driving through that park after driving overnight to get us there! It's breathtaking. We also need to go back to TRoosevelt - we didn't know we would pass it on our trip and didn't have time to stop for anything but the visitor's center. We did Devil's Tower on a trip to PNW in 2018, that I have yet to document, and absolutely loved it there! We drove straight through without stopping to sleep from home (Baltimore) and got to the park just at sunrise before anyone else was there! It was magical to have the whole trail to ourselves around the tower. I hope you have an awesome time! So many incredible things to see!

My gosh...this is just amazing!!! Your photography is stunning and every page was fun to look at. I am leaving on a 2 month road trip around the USA in April and I was trying to figure out how I was going to document this trip.....so I have some questions please. 1. How did you keep all your photos in order and identified while traveling and 2. Same for journaling? I have documented trips before but they were much shorter and easier to keep organized. I will be in an RV and I am sure I will have down time I just need some idea of how to keep it organized and in order. Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience with us...this book will be a treasure for years to come. gina

Thanks so much Gina! Wow - two whole months?!?! That's amazing!! What an adventure! So for my photos, I didn't really do much with them. My husband and I are both iPhone users so our photos are just stored in the Photos app. We do have a shared Google Photos account that each of our photos upload to, so when I was ready to start working on this album, I downloaded all of our photos from this trip (mine you they had not been cleaned out, gotten rid of duplicates, or anything!). I then imported them into Lightroom on my computer so I could rank and rate and start cleaning them out and narrowing them down. I started with 3223 photos! And narrowed it down to 376 picks which is what I worked from to actually put the album together. Lightroom is great because it organizes everything into folders by date, that made it easy to work my way chronologically through this project. As for journaling, I did a bit better with that along the way. I use the Day One app - and I pay for Premium so it can sync across all my devices and I can do my journaling there on any device I feel like working on. Ahead of time, I set up an entry for each day in my journal. Then, each day, as we went through the days, I tried to jot down any notes I could. Some days I did great (toward the beginning of the trip) and later there's nothing but the empty placeholder. I usually work in bullet points and just journal what is interesting to me in the moment, later when I'm working on the album I can decide if I need to include all of it, none of it, or some of it. More is always better, but on a road trip like this, it's hard. When I wasn't driving, I was usually sleeping, so I found it challenging to always find time to write stuff down. You sound like you'll have a little more downtime you could use to keep track of things. I have a guide to my best travel documentation tips I created on my blog, you can get it free here: www.createdbysteph.com/5-recipes-for-simple-travel-documentation/ Good luck! And have an amazing adventure!

@@createdbysteph I cannot begin to thank you for the in depth information. And also for the link to the document (which I've already downloaded) This should be an awesome trip....we only have 2 places to be on certain days.....Washington DC for a graduation May 14 and and a camping reservation that took over a year to get in Bodega Bay June 12th (one side of the country to the other, lol......then back home when we are done there. Everything else we are doing is just as we go. I only hope I can create a memory book 1/4th as good as yours! lol! Thanks again...I have rewatched this video 4 times and I'm sure I'll watch it many more. ~gina

I love everything about this album. My husband and I took a similar shorter trip South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah…looks like you missed the Grand Tetons…definitely worth a trip back. I hope you don’t mind but I am lifting so many of these ideas. I have to ask, would you be willing to sell me the digital image of the Buffalo Bill Tunnel…just for me to include in my album. We need to plan a trip through all the national parks in Utah. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, can’t wait to get started on my album of our trip.

Hi Joanne! Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely compliments! Yes, I used the Day One app to keep notes from our trip - they are definitely not as robust as I would have liked them to be going back and working on this all these years later, but they were enough to get me by. I also used some posts from IG for details and then filled in the rest from memory.
