Earlier this summer we got a chance to get behind the wheel of Ford's latest performance-oriented pickup, the F-150 Tremor. With the new aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 due to land in showrooms in just a few short months, we thought we'd give this hopped-up version of the outgoing model a thorough once-over before it goes the way of the dodo.
Truth be told, the F-150 Tremor is less of a bespoke performance model and more of a build sheet "best-of". It combines a regular cab, short wheelbase version of the F-150 with the potent 3.5-liter, biturbocharged Ecoboost V6 engine, which outputs 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque and, a 4.10 axle ratio for added pull off the line.
Available in two or four-wheel-drive flavors, this particular Tremor sports the FX Appearance Package, which includes 20-inch black wheels black exterior accents and the Tremor Plus Package, which adds navigation, remote start, rear view camera, bed extender, and other useful bits and pieces.
While a standard F-150 with the FX2 Sport package retails for $34,270, our tester clocked in at a rather lofty $42,210 all told. That got us wondering: With Ford's own F-150 SVT Raptor, and its 6.2-liter, 411 horsepower V8 few thousand dollars away at $44,995, does the Tremor shake things up enough to opt for one instead of an F-150 with the full SVT treatment? Sure, the Raptor is more off-road focused, but not so much so that it isn't still a capable performer on the pavement.

Why are there traffic lights on the on-ramps to the beltway??? Thats like the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
@daugbret
@daugbret 10 жыл бұрын
Usually they are only activated during high-traffic times. It is to stagger the cars entering the interstate so large groups don't merge at once. They usually let two cars on side-by-side so they're great for drag racing.
@bokkey45
@bokkey45 10 жыл бұрын
it's some b.s. thing they do to reduce traffic on the freeway by stopping people on the on-ramp, they have them where I live too yet there are still horrendous backups.

Would have been awesome to see Ford do more with the Tremor. From what I can tell it's just a single cab short bed ecoboost F-150 with sporty wheels. Love the idea though.

well its the only version you can get the ecoboost in that configuration, and it also has a 4.10 locking diff

As I said, shortbed single cab ecoboost, lol. Despite the gears. They could have made the Tremor into a road going Raptor, but they decided to take the cheap way. Such a shame.

I like the styling of the new ford trucks but I don't care for their ride style very much and their dependability is still questionable even though they have greatly improved over the past 10 years.

My 99 Expedition lasted me 200K Of pure Hell, I'm from a Ford family and have many friends that love their Ford. But I will be honest, Toyotas will last you longer. But it all depends on how you treat it.
@Bobbybeb
@Bobbybeb 9 жыл бұрын
Ford Is Best. Honestly many vehicle will do well with proper maintenance. I've seen both Fords and Toyotas with 100,000 miles that look and drive like crap and some with 200,000 miles that look and drive great. Ford has made some very decent vehicles over the years and they would last longer if the engine was made better. With any new vehicle, only time will tell. If I were to buy a new truck, ford would be my second choice.
@YourLocalFireAlarmTech
@YourLocalFireAlarmTech 9 жыл бұрын
Yes yes, every vehicle maker has their flaws, tweaks here and there, but over all, Ford and Toyota are the most reliable I've ever owned, and I've owned many GM Vehicles... very displease and we took very good care of them. They just didn't last...
@Bobbybeb
@Bobbybeb 9 жыл бұрын
Ford Is Best. Well it seems like some of the GM vehicles are a hit and miss. I drove a 2013 tahoe as a rental for a month and with only 12,000 miles, it was not holding up. But with GM, their flaws remain consistent so you know what to expect.
@YourLocalFireAlarmTech

That's why I will no longer go with GM, I avoid them with all costs. Went through 5 GM SUV's, they all trashed themselves. Constant recalls man, can't do it.

Right. Ford doesn't sell these in Australia but I think they'd do well. I'm all about V8's myself but folks seem to love their six cylinder utes(pick ups) and, to be fair this one has V8-ish acceleration. Pretty neat.
