Same problem. Here is what I did to resolve the issue. I paid 90$ for complete diagnosis at a Honda Service Center. They found faulty starter. Total Quote was 600$ for starter+299$ for labor. Estimate was ~950$. I took the part number from them and ordered a brand new starter from Geniune honda parts that cost me 275$. Then for the installation, i went back to Honda service center. Installation cost was 200$ as they deducted the 90$ I paid for the diagnosis. So overall repair cost was around 575$ which was way better than paying 950$. The issue has been resolved and I have driven the car after repair for another 100 miles. No trouble starting at all. Honda has a faulty starters in 2013,2014,2015 series. They are fully aware of that but will never accept or recall. This will be my last Honda car. PS: Starters are not covered under powertrain warranty. Don't waste your time.

I had a similar problem with a 2015 Honda Civic. Push start engine button dash lit up, single click sound and the engine wouldn't start. I checked fuses and relays and they were in good working condition. The mechanic recommended switching out the battery and alternator. It worked for a couple weeks and I got back to square one. I cleaned the push engine button and worked for a couple days then same issue. I checked the brake switch underneath the dash and noticed the push pin was not working correctly. Autozone part only $12.99 Duralast Stoplight Switch SW9720. So far no issues. My last resort is the starter. Thanks for uploading the video.

having the same issue with my 2014 honda accord as well right now. replaced the alternator (was reading bad voltage), ELD and battery (had bad cells) already - and it started around 100-101k miles. :( I'm wondering why this isn't some sort of recall, because shouldn't a starter last longer than that?

I have same problem with my Honda 2014 , only 27K. I been using Honda since 2001. Its time to say Bye Bye to Honda. We should not pay our hard money to cheaters. They should recall this starter issue.
@1g20025416 жыл бұрын
My friend's 2015 CRV (50k miles) had the same issue. I suspect it's an issue with the battery. Because, we were able to jump it start it, ever single time, easily. When jumping start the car,, the starter crank very easily, and engine start right up on 1st attempt, every single time. So My assumption is that: 1. the factory battery is not powerful to crank the 2.4 Motor. 2. The battery management system is at fault, causing the battery not getting enough juice. In plain English, it''s not getting recharged. Note that , car battery life will be shortened if they stay "starving" mode. Possible solution: 1. get a bigger battery that will fit in your car. 2. get a emergency battery jumper and keep it in your car. So you don't get strangled on the road. 3. Charge your battery everyday(manually) with a car battery maintenance charger, the one that plugged into wall. Diagnose Tools: 1. Monitor your Battery voltage. You can use a multi-meter to measure battery voltage, or you can buy "12V USB charger with voltage monitor". It plugs into the 12V socket and displays real time voltage. Shut off the engine, If your battery voltage is below 12.5V. it's not fully charged. Start the Engine, the voltage should be above 13.5V. If not, there is a problem with the charging system. 2. There is a battery sensor recall on 9th gen accords. I suspect it could of be the cause. Don't count on me. Get the sensor fixed. Honda says It's a fire fire hazard.

128k miles really isn't a lot of miles in a car, especially Hondas. Nowadays, 250k is considered something like the new 100k miles. Most cars built today are designed to last at least up to 300k miles if they're taken care of properly, which the majority of people do not do.

Tip for anyone with the button start style, not supposed to hold down button long time like demonstrated here. Hold button start down short and quick, just like turning a key 🔑 style over, you don’t keep the key turned over long as that will cause the starter to keep grinding on the flywheel.

Excellent video, Very explained, I will share my experience because, I been suffering with the same issue with my starter and I replaced with the Bosch SR1355x that I just replaced few hours ago in a 2014 honda accord EXL, CVT automatic, 2.4L engine. With only 40k, One owner. The sound of the Bosch starter when crank is not normal (BEWARE). Yes the car crank but make noise like the pinion material is grinding the flex plate, for me look like the material is cheap in the Bosch and can damage the flex plate in the transmission soon, which will be cost over $1000 work if you damage the flex plate because now you have bring down the transmission. My OEM Mitsuba SM-74009 was super smooth when starting (typical honda starter sound) but the Bosch definitely is more metallic sound like blending metals. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO BUY REMANUFACTURED BOSCH AS YOUR AFTERMARKET CHOICE FOR 2013-2106 HONDA STARTER. FRUSTRATED DOUBLE JOB AND DOUBLE HEADACHE IN RETURN AND WILL GET BACK TO OEM (COST MORE BUT YOU GET QUALITY AND PEACE OF MIND). Thanks for you video this is nothing personal is just trying to help people to avoid future inconvenience.

On my 2013 Accord the engine does not always start. When it does not start I continue to hold the brake pedal down then push and HOLD the START/STOP button and it will start. This indicates that there is a possible problem with either the push button switch or the brake switch.

Same problem in my car 2013 Accord EXL. 56K miles. Crappy Cars. Never again !

I assume starters are in cars with push button starts. I have intermittent start issues where the car doesn't start but if I remove the key and restart the car, the car starts. Since my car still uses a key to start the car, I would assume this may be an ignition switch issue and not a starter issue. Any ideas?

Mine just started doing it at 131,000 miles. But that's normal maintenance. Most cars have many other problems before this mileage.

Morgan Norville did you get that fixed, if so for how much? I’m having the same problem also with just over over 40k miles on a 2016 accord

@@elvergalarga6192I got it fixed not long after this comment. I took it to a honda dealership, and told them the starter was bad. I signed for an hour of labor for the initial inspection. They had a starter in stock, and it took two hours for them the change it out. All in all it came out between $600 -$650 for parts and labor. I bought an extended warranty when I bought my car last year at a Subaru dealership, so it only cost me $100. Sorry I cant give you an exact cost; I misplaced my write up. But I've seen forum posts where it has cost a lot more than what my write up said. So I would he careful.

I, too, have a 2014 Honda ( now 2020, so 6 yrs old) , and am having this exact same problem! Mine, started around 129,000 miles. Sometimes it helps to push in brake really hard when trying to start... but sometimes even that doesnt work. In the 3 years I have had the car ( bought a certified used vehicle from Honda dealship)... i have had to replace the battery 4 times, due to them dying. The last 2 have been in the last 12 months. If they knew that they had this problem, they should still fix it , i think, because obviously it is still happening.

If you don't know what was wrong and just guessed that it was the starter, there is no point to this video.

Hondas rarely have this problem just like toyotas.. First: 1- check battery voltage should be 12.4 V . if battery is bellow this, try jump start it. You can also check dome lights, head lights see if they are bright enough to reasonably conclude is not battery. 2- check battery conections both terminals.. No corrosion should be present and ground cable should be tight and clean. 3- if you hear car wants to start and tries to crank, tap starter with a wooden stick, while other guy cranks engine. 4- place keyless fob next to push button wait until it lights up then try to start car as you normaly would.. 5- Make sure transmission is engaged in Park or neutral for stick shift. Then, check if brake lights work as you push pedal. If they wont lught up, it could be your brake switch. .

Its a starter problem. I have 2015 lx key start and starter went bad after 2 years. No more hondas for me. I hate their transmissions.

@@willywill2064 Hondas are bot bad just like toyotas. But i understand the frustration. However, honda quality started to go down hill in the early 2000s on some models like the odessey with transmission issues. Ironically, i have a 1988 honda civic abd a 1988 toyota camry and they have 187,000 and 179,000 respectevely. Never gives me problems i also have a 2013 honda civic with 64.000 miles. No problem at all. But i admit at some point honda and toyota quality started to go down..

If they rarely have this problem, you haven't been reading all the comments. I am owner of a auto repair shop specializing in electronics and remote start installs for over 30 years. I'm diagnosing one now and it sure is a common problem for these years.

55 000km 2014 Civic won't start after driving on highway for more than an 1. Needs about 2 hours rest before it even thinks about starting. 2 mechanics and Honda service advised me there is nothing wrong with my car.
