The only thing missing from this over-the-top performance would be the thunderous applause of the audience. But the recording is definitely flawless. Fab 4 is an accurate label for this fine quartet. They all love what they are doing--it is written all over their faces as they appreciate each other. Ignasi's grin while the girls are singing tells it all. There's something authentic happening here in that the lead is given to the 14-year-old, and she nails it. The first time I came upon SAJB was with the group minus Rita doing Night and Day. Then I heard this. Wow. The fact that they are kids makes it magic.

I think Rita's voice is prehensile. It is so articulate, so distinctive. It wraps itself around the whole tune, the harmonies of the others, so it is never subsumed into the collective sound of the other (still brilliant!) three. You hear it, with its easy flexibility, at every point of the vocals, gilding the edges. And so effortless.

I've been a jazz musician for over 40 years, play sax, guitar, keys, vocals, I write... I don't like to talk about myself much, but most people say I have talent and skill, so that said, I think I'm qualified in saying that this video shows a ROOMFUL OF PURE TALENT. Anyone giving this a thumbs-down (an amazing 92 as of this writing!) obviously has no clue about what talent is (or what good music is, for that matter). Unbelievable performance... As another commenter mentioned: scatting in harmony? Fantabulous! And also, people of YOUTH with the ability to swing and scat and bop like that, like it's 1955 or something.. I wish more young people could just disconnect from the rap, metal, hip-hop and other garbage just long enough to expose themselves a bit to this kind of musical gold, I think they would become enlightened, and good music like this would continue to be preserved.

You might imagine a little friction introducing this young and rather good upstart into the well established team, but search as you may there is none to be seen, only generosity. Andrea acts the supportive big sister when Rita first faces a live audience at the Jamboree with Desafinado. Later Magali does several gigs with Rita including here in London and Eva and Magali perform with her and her best friend Lucia to great acclaim. But the SAJB seems to create friends for life from the high adrenalin fix of shared performance. Even in 2024 Eva, Andrea and Magali all feature on Rita's latest album De Camino al Camino, Eva doing a great job with sax on the jazziest track, Se Transformara. I think a trick of the SAJB is to promote the spectacular wins of seeing music as an opportunity for mutuality. Go see how supportive they can be; 2018 Minor League.

Never thought I'd put a group on such a high pedestal. I'm especially a big fan of Andrea Motis; Is there anything she can't do? You can feel the close bond within the group, and why not? I'd never really noticed Rita Payes until last week when I heard How high the moon. The group really nailed it but now I'm fascinated with Rita and have watched the KZbin video over and over again. Sure wish the group could come to Martha's Vineyard some time. The Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs would be the place to perform. Guess I'm just a hopeless old dreamer, romantic Jazz and Bossa Nova lover.

Bravo.
