2014 Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTec BiTurbo Diesel - engine sounds!

Microphone was placed within the engine compartment to capture all of the mechanical noises. I am thankful for the Mercedes Engineers that worked on the sound deadening for the interior!

Thanks @smacdiesel What year is your 300D? I drove a W124 E300D for years... one of my most favorite cars. This model has been very very reliable. The only issues I have had were a rear sunshade that got hung up and replaced, the VERY well known weak accessory battery (for the ECO system) has failed once already (in 30K miles), and I randomly blew a motor mount. THAT was dramatic for sure. I routinely get 43mpg + on the highway at 75mph cruising speeds, without even trying. My average economy from the last 3500 miles is 37.8mpg.

😰 that’s insanely loud for a luxury sedan. Is this stock? Do you have to yell to communicate with passengers?

@@jdd3993 Thanks, I was afraid it was that loud inside. Has it been reliable? I'm looking at a few in the 50 to 58 thousand miles range, I know Mercedes diesels run forever but the electronics are what worries me.

@@Salty_reviews All I can say is get a pre-purchase inspection, and buy the best one you can. The engines last a long time but the rest of the cars are nowhere near as reliable as the old ones. I cannot stress this enough. I didn't have horrible luck with this car until the warranty expired. Once that happened, it seemed like everything went wrong. I had $11.5K in repairs in calendar 2018, and traded it in for a Toyota 4Runner.

JD D How many miles did it have when it happened? What went wrong? I was just looking for 250 Bluetec 2014-2017 these days but now I’m getting a cold feet after reading this.. Is E350 engine better in your opinion?

I know it’s a diesel engine but why doesn’t it sound like a trucker

Piezo injectors. They do miracles for TDI, CDI, and direct injection on gasoline/petrol engines

It's also a 4 cylinder, it's a different sound. In fact it's sound is much like a W123 240D, except quieter

Hi there! I am hesitating between a Touareg TDI and an E250 Bluetec. What do you recommend? Thanks PS: I have a 2013 TDI with 118k miles and it has been completely reliable: in almost 5 years, I changed the battery and the glow plugs, period...And of course, the usual maintenance: brakes, oil,...etc.

I don't make recommendations like that mate, sorry. My experience is that the Bluetec is powerful and efficient, and the car is extraordinary at being a trip-car. But the reliability of this car, in my ownership, was dismal. And I am a Mercedes diesel kinda guy, I have driven them most of my adult life. The old "They don't make them like they used to" is definitely true.

@@jdd3993 Thank you very much! Maybe I just should keep my 2014 MB C300 4Matic with 26k original miles. it is a V6 that sips premium,. but they are reputed to be as reliable as a Timex watch!
