Brent, I appreciate you making these videos and taking the time to respond to the comments. I can see you care about what you do. I want you to know because of this video I ordered the SP LT headers from you and will be installing here in a couple of weeks. Got the rest if this setup ready to install as well based on your setup here. So 13 GT, MT82, 18 ported mani, Airaid CAI, RST clutch/lightened flywheel, alum driveshaft. I already have Bama for life which I’ve had no issues with but after install I’ll be reaching out to you for a tune (with data logging?). Just need to take care of the rear end now! I feel like this is low for the mods done to the car what do you think?
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering Жыл бұрын
Auto cars always read low. Plus many factors play a role in the "numbers". The cars are smart and the fact you are running E85 the knock sensors will load in timing on there own. I would not sweat it I bet the car feels pretty fast.

Nice video Brent!!! What is your thoughts on American Racing headers or Kooks headers instead? Obviously they cost a bit more over stainless racing but is it worth to step up to AmRc or Kooks? Should we always go with 1 7/8 verses 1 3/4?

@BrenspeedEngineering

Prob close... they would be a bit lower at low rpm and a bit lower at high rpm with that manifold. But in the end they would somewhat close just not in all the different RPM ranges because of that manifolds design.

Thanks, great video! How would you think the 2018 manifold would compare to a Cobra jet Manifold?
@Justin_SVT
@Justin_SVT 2 жыл бұрын
VMP did a video a while back, and I believe compared to the ‘18 the CJ is just slightly better by a couple tq’s. A ported ‘18 is 1/2 the price of a CJ. A stock ‘18 is a 1/4 the price of a CJ.
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 2 жыл бұрын
I have ran both on the same car and did not see any large difference in the 1/4 mile or dyno. The 18 is by far the better bang for the back. Plus... I think the Cobra Jet coyote manifold was discontinued.

They are super super close. I have made more with the CJ but running no cats on a race set up. For the money this is not a bad combo at all and what you save you can get cool things like a driveshaft or other mods like a rear end build.
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 жыл бұрын
The 18 is a good budget intake for sure...but the cj is just better and the gaps widens the more radical your setup is (like if you have cams and full catless exhaust with headers and e85 there will be a larger gap between them than a mild setup but the cj will make more on any setup) just don't smother the cj with a stock gt500 thody or something go monoblade if you wanna unlock the true potential of the cj. There was a guy online who went from a setup just like this video was making about the same power...went from 430ish whp to 480ish switching from the 18 manifold to a cj and adding l&m intake only cams and didn't lose any torque from the cj or intake only cams that is an ideal setup imo. It obviously costs more but will get better results. 18 is great for a budget setup but the cj will make more and the gap widens as the mods get more max effort that is the basic cliff notes to take away.
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 жыл бұрын
Also to add to what I said I would recommend at least l&m intake cams in addition to the cj if you wanna get full potential from the cj the gen 1 cams hold the cj back from its potential more than gen 2 and 3 cams which are a little better. That is why on gen 1 cars ppl think the 18 is about as good as the cj because the cj doesn't really pull away by a good margin from the 18 on gen 1 cars till the intake cams are swapped out to let the cj shine. Stock gen 1 cams hold the cj back and let the 18 come within striking distance of the cj but the cj is still gonna be better but not nearly as much better as it could be if that makes sense.
@victorxavier9977
@victorxavier9977 3 жыл бұрын
@@midnight347 thank you for the feedback! I'm planning on the L&M & CJ intake done at the same time and agree the GT needs cams but not willing to spend money on stage 3 cams for just a little more power I just want a nice NA car that I can drive and not worry. Thx!

Would there be an advantage to doing E85 with this combination?
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 жыл бұрын
There is always an advantage to going e85 even na. You will see 10-20 whp bump peak to peak even on a bolt on setup and what makes it so good is most of that power bump is across the entire powerband rather than just at the top like some other mods...it makes it much better down low and on the hit because you can ramp up initial timing because of the added knock prevention. It will make the car have worse mpg but it is also much cheaper than 93 so it all kinda evens out in the end.
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
My opinion it has its pros and cons. Pros yes a bit more timing vs 93 which equals a little more power and torque NA as well is it burns pretty cool. Cons is that is uses a lot more fuel to do the same thing. This means larger injectors and likely a fuel pump or boost a pump. E85 does not like cold weather either. So it really depends what you do with your car and if that bit more power and torque is worth dealing with the cons.

@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Your 12 does not have IMRC so you do not retain them. You lock them open. Yes you can do E85 if you do not have good quality 93 octane. You will need a boost a pump and LU47 injectors (FRPP 47LB). Thanks.

Brent, I have 2012 Boss 302 that I use for road racing. Would the 18 manifold be a upgrade to its current Boss 302 intake? I know the CJ is, but all those parts for that are 1800 -2k. I use 100 octane race gas and rev to 7700-7800.
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly if it were me and I had a boss which already has the boss intake I would put money somewhere else. If I did not have a boss intake then yes go with the 18 over the boss intake. If you already have every other mod to the car and are looking for something else then yes swap intakes.
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't bother swapping unless it is to a ported cobra jet setup anything else isn't worth the swap on a boss 302 imo. Having your stock intake ported would be a good budget upgrade. You really wanna make it haul ass go with a ported cj and l&m intake cams you'd probably see a 50 whp gain and no loss in torque you might even gain torque over the boss setup.

Good numbers but wouldn’t you have a lot more usable low end street torque with short headers and the stock manifold? Peak hp is coming from the 18 manifold which you have to ring the crap out of to get. I had 402/393 on an 2011 GT/cs with tune intake and catback with stock headers and manifold. I feel like the extra money for the long tubes and that 18 intake are not worth the 25 hp gain and a 10 torque loss which will not amount to much I real word driving that you would notice Guess it depends on what you’re looking for just my opinion Definitely no slouch and a good street setup for sure though

Depends on the package you have, auto trans vs manual, fuel, conditions, really no details to compare. Im sure your torque is way higher having boost.

Glad to see another great video. So if a stock 2014 is rated at 420 hp then why is this dyno showing 428 hp after all the mods ? Sorry, I know I’m probably missing something so it’s a learning experience for me. Thanks!!
@MyNameStanc0l
@MyNameStanc0l 3 жыл бұрын
That’s horsepower you’re talking about it is very different than wheel horsepower. At the wheel idk the 2014 probably make 350 so 428 at the wheel is pretty impressive! Hope that makes sense :)
@Did_he_meek
@Did_he_meek 3 жыл бұрын
420 hp is measured from ford from the flywheel. And as the power is sent through the drive train it is called parasitic loss which is usually 12-15% less than flywheel horsepower. So that lesser value is what is actually getting to the road and being true useable horsepower. Hope this answers your question

Yep what they said..... Chassis dyno is rear wheel horsepower not flywheel which is the number you are talking about (420).

You would need to direct that question to Lund as they make the tune and control the fueling and timing for that set up.

Would you recommend an e85 tune ?
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your available fuel and if you don't mind the issues E85 can cause. If you cant get good quality 93 you may like E85. Our Indiana 93 is awesome so E85 offers little gains all motor if you are used to tuning good 93. Now if you have crappy fuel you may love E85. Just be aware it deteriorates some of the fuel system over time, cold start issues in cold weather sometimes, etc... and you need larger injectors and fuel pump upgrade most of the time. So for some its great, some not so much. Depends if you want to deal with the $$ and issues you may have vs 93 or 91.

How much do boss manifold fbo cars usually make
@BrenspeedEngineering
@BrenspeedEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
That manifold is not a very good manifold. Maybe about the same as this video in full FBO mode or a little less. Low end loss would be greater with a boss. High RPM power would drop off sooner.

You are comparing flywheel HP to rear wheel HP. Not the same thing. A chassis dyno which you watched is rear wheel after all the drivetrain loss. A stock 14 manual might make 370 rwhp on a chassis dyno, not 420 as that is the flywheel rating.
