If the vehicle has not completely learned your driving habits it will deplete battery charge in hold mode because it is not sure what your energy requirements will be. This will stabilize. After that when you are in the hold mode the ICE/Generator can only generate 55KW of power. If the driving conditions require more than 55KW’s it will deplete the battery reserve. The information center will tell you your KW usage and if it stays below 55KW you should not deplete your Battery. Call if it does

Hold Drive mode is a New Feature for 2013 Volt. At this time there is no software update for the 2012 Model Volt.

I just flipped a 2012 Prius Plug-in for a 2013 Volt. The Hold Drive Mode has issues. When I select that Mode, the battery gets grayed-out, a fuel gauge comes up, and the ICE runs. All that is normal; but by battery shows electrical range continuing to decrease. Maybe, I should have kept the Prius.

I'm jealous. I have a 2012. Couldn't wait for a 2013, but I knew about the Hold drive mode in the Ampera. I'm wondering. Could that be a software upgrade?

I have 600 miles on the Volt; the Hold Mode still consumes electrical range. Yesterday, I had the Volt in Hold Mode, and the normal mode electrical range was completely exhausted. This cannot be right. What is wrong with this car? Is GM churning them out, even though they know the Volts have this issue? Will the Hold Mode ever work?

My 2014 Volt (825 miles on the odometer) and the HOLD mode makes no sense to me whatsoever. As far as Mike Savoie comments go I'm not even close to drawing 55kW and the battery is being drained at speeds between 15 and 55 mph ... so HOLD is not really HOLD it's some convoluted code with no proper definition from GM two years since its implementation but trust GM, it's not a bug, it's just an undocumented feature !!! (old programmers joke for those that don't know).

Hold mode charges the batts and keeps it charged with the generator, basically. If you even still have the car lol
