My Odes does the same thing. It only does it when the engine is warm and been running for a bit. With all the heat in the engine compartment the compression is really high. I have started putting my foot on the throttle to open the valves a little while starting. It did make a difference. I won't say that I haven't had problems with my Odes. But it is a machine. and I have friends that have Name brand UTV's and they have issues too. It scared me the first time I was out on the trail and it seemed like it wouldn't start. But it has never left me stranded.

Pressing the gas doesn’t open the valves… that just opens the throttle body, nothing to do with compression

I've had my share of problems with mine. The starter went out on it along with the sprag clutch. I bought a $60 Can-Am starter for it instead of the $273 Odes starter since it wasnt under warranty. Odes covered sprag clutch. I had dealer change out all wheel bearings with sealed bearings. He said they were a few miles away from seizing up and only had 371 miles on it.The front driveshaft bolt has sheared off twice almost Imimmediately after repair. I had dealer drill and tap larger hole and now is fine. I also bought an Interstate battery and a good quality trickle charger. It has started great for me since. I paid $10k for mine and a comparably equipped Polaris would have been $16k. I recently put new truck tires and wheels on it along with removing the undersized wheel lug studs. I drilled out the holes and pressed in bigger studs. Others had problems with them shearing off. I knew I would have to do some fixing on it but they all have issues. I have 5 acres and use it daily.

How hard is the starter to replace
@connorbrooks89894 жыл бұрын
Do you remember what starter you bought for the odes
@darwinmarchell30997 жыл бұрын
I sold mine last May and bought a 2016 Polaris Ranger Crew. No problems whatsoever with my Polaris. I used to think they were way more expensive than Odes but unless you price them you can only guess. Luckily I didnt lose too much money selling mine. Glad I got rid of it.

I just completed a repair on an Dominator 800 that was doing the same thing. The customers unit got to the point that the starter gear would only spin. What had happened is the sprag (starter clutch one way gear) came appart. One of the rollers came out and tapped the timing chain guide and knocked it loose and broke retaining bolt, the guide had slipped back about 2 to 2 1/2 inches back and the tensioner was not engaging. Timing chain slap on front cylinder I believe was making it fire in poor timing order and caused a kick back. After replacing the sprag, chain guide and all components including flywheel it starts perfect now. This customer has upgraded exhaust, clutch, variator and wheels with a 2 inch lift. He said he stays up with all the BIG BOYS, polaris's, he said (all). He is in the back woods of Floeida swamps. Yep, replaced all wheel bearings with sealed bearings. this thing will com near pullong a wheely on pavement.

Grady, do you know by chance the size / specs of the flywheel/magneto puller that you used? Odes is unable to provide me that info.
@alexfernandez25216 жыл бұрын
@@toddkatzenmeier8448 did you have the same starting issue
@THERANDYDIXON10 ай бұрын
I agree with this I had the same issue and ended up being the sprag. I would assume that vehicles having this issue when they are running hot could be tp do with expansion on the bearings resulting in the bearings having more friction

Not sure if this help but I have a 2015 bms 800 cc v-twin odes engine in it. When I bought it, the guy said the starter was bad. Charged the battery, didn't help. What I found ....at least on mine was a bad ground from the wire loom that goes to the starter relay. I cut the wire, in my case yellow, grounded it to the battery, and it went from no sign of starting, to starts every time. Keep in mind, Chinese made stuff sometimes use shitty parts, and shitty wire

I have replaced the starter with the new upgrade CanAm starter, wrapped the exhaust, replaced the battery with an Interstate battery, and keep it plugged into the trickle charger. I took it off the charger on Saturday and drove it for 15 minutes, shut it off and tried to restart and it did the same thing as before spending all that money and time. As one person on the Odes forum stated, it has to do with the engine compression. That seems to be the only logical thing remaining.

looking to put a new battery in my odes what was the interstate battery you used? what are the CCA and battery id number if possible.

I think they should have a recall. I have only 300 miles on mine with nothing but problems ! lights, starter, bearings. Had a three year warranty but the starter is listed as a electrical. So no warranty. Dont waste your money on Odes !!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2014 800 bought new, the same problem with hard starting when hot, took to dealer for that and bad tire wear on right front, Not sure what they did on the starting problem but blamed me for the tire wear at 300 miles right front tire was gone, and drove It 25mph for the first 200 miles. It was out of alignment and the tires not under warranty I had to buy a new tire at 450 miles, Dealer would not take the blame.(They don't sell them anymore) So I have to find another dealer in Upper Michigan. So now with 750 miles on it. It still starts great, Front tires still wearing not to bad but not real good either, Rear ones still like new. No wheal bearing problem or others for that matter, One thing is windshield scratches bad when dirty, Mine now needs replaced, And in the spring going to get road tires for the front and save the knob tires for the winter. Over all satisfied with it

Has anyone found out why it does this or how to fix this problem? Mine is doing the same thing and I’ve already replaced the battery twice. Any ideas?

has anyone found out the real problem with this. I installed a new battery and it is still hard to start, just like the video. looking for advice. thanks

add a marine battery under the passenger seat it saves the starter clutch and starts like right now
@tylerbastert9207 жыл бұрын
Replace battery with Interstate MT-51 Battery. It has about 20% more cold cranking amps then the stock Exide 6-QW-45. Also, add another ground wire from the battery to the frame or engine. This engine does not decompress when starting and stock battery setup is not sufficient in cold weather.

Honestly I absolutly hate my odes.it has been nothing but problems since day 1.i have had it about 1yr and it only has 115 miles.i use it around the house and to hunt alittle on our own land (323acres).at 100 miles which is about 10hrs,I have replaced all the wheel bearing at $80 each,passenger seat belt,all the skid plates,front axle boot,steering colum,both tie rods and tie rod ends,4wd drive switch,front left tire twice,front bumper cover,and front right head light!no it has not been abused or ever in the mud!just on hard packed dirt roads and grass!I have contacted odes and they will not warrenty or help in any way at all!my $11,000 odes dominator 800 4 seater now sets next to my shed,I refuse to use it cause it is a constant problem.i use my ragged out 91' electric ezgo golf cart instead!i am working with my local yamaha dealer on tradeing me for a Viking.and they r only giving me $7,500,that's $2,500 less than I owe,buts it's worth it!thats my honest opinion!

What are your thoughts on the ODES? I found it hard to get a honest opinion due to a lot of die hard non-mainstream brand haters out there. I plan on using it just for working around my 10 acres. No mudding or extreme four wheelin.

My 2014 dominator does the exact same thing.crappy battery with a high compression engine.get an interstate battery and it helps plus keep it on a trickle charger

Sorry, doesn't appear to be much help out there. I gave Odes a try and had to switch to Polaris. Best thing I ever did. Zero problems after 4 -1/2 years of use. Starts every time and doesn't get 150 degrees inside during the summer. I can honestly say I've tried both and I know who the clear winner is.
