Nice, I just got a 19 2500 and I sacrificed the anti spin diff for the 3.73 gear. I had no idea this option was available until I was at the dealer. I’ll opt for an Auburn helical limited slip later on down the road for when I go off the beaten path. Great video 🤙🏼. Good to know I can jump to a 35 and it’ll work. My 14 had 3.42 on 35”s and it felt it for sure.

with what you're running, 2391 is stock and 2459 is with 3.73. Do you regret not going 4.10? however you would have had to move to 5th @ 2189..I'm in AZ too, and my 5er in 16,000 loaded
@silvercummins35582 жыл бұрын
It is a tuff call going to 4.10 right now with stock tires 3.73 pull great with 35s it still pulls good. Probably 4.10 might be in the sweet spot cause I had 4.30 gears I did not like it. I pulled slower up this one grade by ten miles per hour still in 3rd gear. Bet if I had stocks size tires it would have pulled in 4th gear. 4.30 gears was great for off the line but it suck going down i5.

Are you running stock tires? I'm trying to find out what gears people are using with 37s and 6ich lift
@silvercummins35585 жыл бұрын
During that video I was running 35 inches tires. Right now I'm running stock tires cause fuel mileage. I had videos of me running 35s with nitro 4.30 gears did not like them. Guess what you are planning to do with the truck with highway speed or just pulling a trailer. With test I have done money I spend in gears on my truck twice my guess with 37s would say 4.10s. When I had 35s doing 80 mph rpms would be around 2200. When I was stock gears and tires would pull this one steep high 3rd gear around 50 mph with 4.30 gears with 35s the same hill I still pulled 3rd gear doing around 40 to 45 mph so I was slower my thinking when I did it all thought would babble to do it in 4th but it's too tall of gear. The nitro gears was noisy so I figured I'll put little lower gear then stock so far I'm happy. My opinion 3.73 for 35s and 4.10s for 37s. Other people would say different some I heard 4.56. For me that is real low. But will have a lot get yo and go.

@@silvercummins3558 ok yeah my stock is the 3.42 aisin trans and all the searching people are saying 373 or 410s I dont wanta be doing 80 screaming at 2500 lol so I'm trying to see what people have experiance thanks for the reply
@silvercummins35585 жыл бұрын
I hear you my gears was stock with 3.42 also. 37s with 4.10 think you would be fine. 4.30 would work to but the nitro gears was noise and I broke one tooth on the front ring gear so I would not go with that brand. If you can stick with factor gears AAM. When I got my 3.73 gears they where used came off a duramax they run same rear axle pumpkin AAM.

Silver Cummins I’ve got a 2016 6.4 Hemi with stock 3.73 axle and stock wheels. Will be pulling a 13,000lb Wolfpack Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler (11k dry plus 2k loaded up), which is right at the top towing capacity. You’re pulling a 14k Fifth Wheel with the same truck and axle ratios right? Would you keep the 3.73 for occasional towing or swap to the 4.10 gears for 3k more towing capacity? Seems like you’re moving pretty good up that grade. Thanks
@timbohac77915 жыл бұрын
Silver Cummins sorry I see you’ve got the diesel with more towing capacity and I’ve got the Hemi. Apples and oranges already. I’m guessing I should switch to the 4.10 for the extra 3k in towing to bump me up to 16k.....

Do you always run that high of an rpm at 65 I know ur in 4th. Does it hurt the truck running the motor that fast constantly for hours?
@silvercummins35584 жыл бұрын
Dont take my word but cummins motor are made to run. To low rpm will put more stress on stuff. When I tow I'll tow 5th gear on flat ground running between 2000 to 2300 rpms doing 65 to 75 on highway just finished 1400 mile trip this weekend. I noticed get better mpg and egt will stay lower
@thestepfather29584 жыл бұрын
I'm just debating putting 3.73 in my truck . I got 68rfe and 3.42. I tow a 10k camper and lock out 6th gear always when hooked up. I dont tow faster than 67 mph because I'm at 2000 rpm. Truck is bone stock.
@silvercummins35584 жыл бұрын
@@thestepfather2958 my toyhauler when fully loaded weights 18k. I also have 68rfe I tried nitro 4.30 gears with 35s I hate it it was to low my truck pulled better with stock tires with 3.42. So far I really love 3.73 cause it's not to low and not to high like 3.42. Right now I'm running stock height tires. That's up to you if you want to spend the money. I never tow in 6th and when climbing hill I'll drop down to 4th. There's one hill is super steep in pismo beach area I'll drop down to 3rd I'll stay arkind 48 to 53 mph about 2800 rpm. If you think about it the newer 2019 rams are back to 3.73s
@thestepfather29584 жыл бұрын
Was this video u posted with stock tires and 3.73 I'm really just trying to watch people's rpms to see where I want to be at. But yes I'm leaning to 373 because the new rams did it. And I just want less stress on tranny. I dont k ow how I feel about running 2800 rpms though. I super baby my truck. It only seems that high of an rpm on a downshift that it conducts itself when towing
@silvercummins35584 жыл бұрын
@@thestepfather2958 yes had 35s on that video. There guys out there take these stick motors to 4000rpm but they dont last long. Think about diesel generators hold high rpms for days. These motors are tough head gaskets will go with added horsepower. But you'll probably have more issues with emissions stuff. But that's on all manufacturers

What gear were you holding? I have a 2012 with 373 gear set. I was looking at a stryker or momentum fifth wheel. They both empty are about the same gvwr of 16k i was looking to buy a bully but my truck has 373 with 68rfe. I've heard 342 suck but I tow my 30 ft travel trailer with gvw of 8k and I rarely come out of 6th gear
@silvercummins35585 жыл бұрын
I was in fourth gear pulling that hill. I didn't care to much for 3.42 but it pulled good with stock size tires. The one thing need to watch out on stock 68rfe is 5th and 6th gears are the weakest. I lock my truck in 5th gear towing my toyhauler on flat grounds

I know this is an old thread, but I just bought a 2012 3500 DRW with 3.73 6.7L. How did yours do with a fifth wheel? And what weight have you towed?
@nicholasjoly48162 жыл бұрын
With the 3.73 the truck pulled good. You could tell it was behind you with having a SRW truck. Air bags help alot and rear hellwig sway bar. I pulled it for about 1 season then I opted for a trade in. Now I have a 2017 long horn long box DRW 3500 with the max tow. 4.10 gears and Aisian trans with the GN , fifth wheel prep and 30k 5th wheel set up. Night and day difference. Your DRW will pull fine. Stay away from atleast 6th. Or get some insurance with having 4.10 gears installed it makes a huge difference.
