There is a small hole on the tensioner body that will line up with a hole on the engine housing when the belt tension is fully loosened using a ratchet. If you insert a small screw or bolt through the holes, it will free up both hands and you can thread the new belt on completely and then remove the bolt.

I love how easy Subaru engines are to work on. Great video!

Except for sparkplug replacement. That is often harder than on in-line and V-engines.

Nice video; R&R is straightforward on this vehicle, but this is a good tutorial for a beginner. I'd save the old belt in the vehicle as an emergency spare.
@Rickmakes2 жыл бұрын
Good tip. I should have kept the spare. In hindsight, I should have kept the new belt too. :) Unfortunately this car got severe hail damage and was totaled by insurance. It will make a good car for someone at the salvage auction.

What length of ratchet bar did you used for this job? Great video.
@Rickmakes2 жыл бұрын
11.5" It's not super hard to move so you can use a shorter ratchet or bar.

At the same time, it's necessary to change the tensioner pulley? Thanks

What's the recommended replacement interval on those belts? Mine's coming up on 50k miles. Looks fine though! Also, some say it's best practice to replace the tensioner whenever you swap out belts, to prolong the new belt's life. What's your outlook on that?
@hubster44772 жыл бұрын
My belt has 130k on it with no cracks, im replacing it soon.

Please help will this fit a 2015 subaru forester
@Rickmakes Жыл бұрын
If the engine looks the same, it is likely the same. This is the 2.5 non-turbo model.
@daydel4715 Жыл бұрын
Is this also the same for a 2013 ?
@Rickmakes Жыл бұрын
I think it is the same for the 2013. I would just double check the belt number for your model year and engine.

Why called Serpentine belt but not Timing belt..❓❓ Thank you for the video and it looks not that hard to Replace it 👍
@jenycek66655 ай бұрын
Timing belt drives camshafts, therefore timing - opening and closing in accordance on piston location , in FB20 engine is an timing chain (non replacing, for all engine lifetime designed). This serpentine belt doesn't time anything, just powers water pump, AC compressor and alternator.
