This was great to watch and brought back many memories. We were sent there for my Dad's work in 1983-1984. I was 10 years old. I have very fond memories of my time at Aiwo Primary School and the lifestyle we enjoyed. Every Friday we swam at the Boat Harbour. Every Sunday everyone got together for lunch. I remember exploring one of the old Japanese army tanks which is amazing to think of now. Shopping in the supermarket with my mum was always an experience, you never knew what would be available.

I'm really glad there are folks like you who can relate to this and appreciate the trip. It's a unique place, to be sure, troubled as it is currently. "Pleasant Island" was no doubt an apt name at one time, and I hope that becomes the reality again soon.

Thank you for taking me back to my youth . I also lived on Nauru back in 1969 for 4 years. It was the best years of my life . It is sad to see how the Island has changed but lovely to see how green it is . It never rained in the 4 years we were there which goes to show how climate change is effecting Nauru . I went to Aiwo Primary School and my eldest sister went to The Mission . We lived at no 1 Meneng and my dad was part of the team that built the Meneng Hotel . Lovely footage of the Island .

I use to live on Nauru Island as a teenager in the mid 70's. Was a fantastic place to grow up on back then. Great restaurants on in particular I remember is Star Twinkles, free out door movies, Civic centre matinees in the weekend with air condition, free bus rides and swimming all day. I went to Aiwo primary then on to Nauru Secondary School. I have watched everything on Nauru and its almost like a completely different country. Very sad what's happened to it and the people. I don't recall dogs back then...could of been.

Point about the dogs - they're not just a nuisance, they're a menace. They killed a small child the day before I shot this video. This is is what feral dogs come to do - it's documented: news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/08/0821_030821_straydogs.html. Their atavistic wolf-like behavior returns. An unfortunate fact.

They use the reverse osmosis (RO) process (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_osmosis#Drinking_water_purification). The Nauru Utilities Corporation (NUC) provides both power service and water service to the island. RO is quite expensive (it uses a lot of electric power), but RO is the only reliable option at the required scale.
