Nice sleeper, commuter car... I don't need a car that is flashy constantly alerting other drivers to "look at me, i'm fast." I just need to hit the accelerator and let the engine (via the exhaust) do the talking... Great review

Nailed it. Great review. I have owned my 2015 SS for 6 yrs now. 13,100 miles. No mods. The car is pristine black, with an automatic. I got the auto trans so my wife, leadfoot Lucy, could drive it. I especially like the great $$$$ book values the car is showing after 6 yrs. First car I've owned that is appreciating in value. 5/7/21.

If you want to stand out you can easily get a Holden badge conversion which transforms it from people asking if its a impala/malibu to people thinking its some 4 door exotic. Ask me how I know :) GTO can be noticed too with some key parts too like some +plus size tires and exhaust.

Great car this is. Haven't driven one (yet) but I have been in the passenger seat of one (SSV) and I must say I loved it! Fast, loud, comfortable and over-all awesome. I've also been in a Gen-F Maloo R8 and fell deeper in love with it. It was just like the SSV but had so much more power and grunt to it. Plus a louder exhaust so it sounded better. But sadly these car's will no longer be built by the end of 2017, though this will not stop me (or anyone else) from buying one after production has ended.

I have a 6 spd 2015 blk/blk SS. I needed 4 doors from my family of 5. It has great handling and now a nice ride to go along with it. The 2014 was a bit rough for the family sedan. Now I have the mag ride set on 'tour' while the kids and MRS are in the car, but can set on 'perf' as soon as the road invites me. 0-60 in 4.5, 1/4 mile in 12.8 top speed at 175 mph and skid pad at 0.97g its a Camaro SS with 4 doors. It is one helluva 4 door car. Its just odd to drive a 'rare' Chevy :-)

It seems the biggest complaint with this family bus is the styling doesn't gel with American tastes, but what about all the imported brands plenty of Americans choose? Surely they hardly nail it being worldwide designs? I, personally found it too "Korean" looking when it was unveiled in Australia. I like the back treatment though.

Yea I agree with your statement at the end Steve. - I'm a non conformist and everything about this car would suit me perfectly....It's true that the more typical drivers that want to drive the more advertised/popular performance cars wouldn't really want to own one of these which works out perfect because there's less of them on the road because of that and gives it higher exclusivity factor.

Definitely looking at getting one of these in the next year or so. I like the single offering aspect (saves time having to hunt down a car with exactly the options you want), and I would definitely want the manual+MRC version. BTW, thanks for showing the shifter throws in the video; I was wondering how long/short they were. I heard the auto cars were good too, but I think GM should have put the 8-speed in, cuz that's the only way I might want the auto over the stick. Clearly they aren't likely to at this point, but I'm hoping Chevy re-ups this car for 2018 and beyond, with a more distinctive appearance.

This is pretty much the only GM car worth buying in the U.S. Everything else is either extremely over priced or extremely under engineered. I'v yet to ever see a new Z28 Camaro for the simple fact that who the hell wants to spend 70k on a Camaro when you can get an older C6 corvette for less. American GM is simply awful.

Love everything about this car, but I have no need for manual. I'll buy used, so no worry about the 'gas guzzler tax' issue. I also won't be burning rubber because that's silly to waste money etc. I want a car that can fit my family, and when they're not around, I can drive somewhat fast (legally of course) on the expressway. I don't do winding roads at 70 miles per hour, but I do drive in the city, where I feel manual is a waste of time and energy. But to each his own.

I love this car, but I do think the sticker is a bit high. If GM could put it at $39.9k I think it would be considered by a lot more people. Also I don't understand why the highway mileage is so poor. 13 years ago a slightly smaller version of the same motor was getting 28-29 real world highway mpg in the Camaro. Steve, Informative video however what you say " MSRP $47,640" available in the USA. Well guys what can I say, that's cheaper than the same car on sale here in Australia. How can that be?. The car is manufactured in Australia in RHD and is more expensive than it's LHD equivalent !!.Goes to prove that GM makes nothing but underpowered cars that are over priced. It is re assuring to know that GM has not lost the art of "ripping people off" good and proper lol. But sincerely speaking, it is a good car and the last in a series. Nice car, but not as nice as the Impala SS or the SRT 8 Charger that owns the market in that price range. If you really want to be the 4 door bully, you get the Hellcat!
@oldtwins9 жыл бұрын
It really looks nice and all but I can't find any manual trans on the lots anywhere near me. All autos. I would have to special order the manual at full retail when they are selling the autos for thousands off without any bargaining (which I don't want) as those models aren't selling well. No thanks. Classic. Leave it to the Ivy league marketing geniuses at GM to screw up an enthusiasts car by flooding production with autoboxes that nobody wants.
@hypocycloidiaspora9 жыл бұрын
oldtwins It's really the geniuses at the dealerships that do this, and it's been this way since the 80's. Dealers know that americans in general can't drive stick, so some just don't bother ordering sticks for their lots. That being said, I've been watching the inventories at my local dealers, and a car identical to the one in this review lasted only a few weeks. The slushboxes sit around for months. Right now there is 1 manual SS in black for a metropolitan area of 3.5 million.
@Dolby1099 жыл бұрын
oldtwins Hes right, but also when you order a car you can dictate terms and still get money off MSRP. As long as the dealer is making some money they will go for it...so do your research and then just email or call several dealers to see who would like your business for an ordered SS with the options you want.
@johnsmythe18419 жыл бұрын
+oldtwins Actually, I and 91% of car buyers 'want' auto. There's a few manuals out there if you want it, but large car makers give the MAJORITY what they want. A small minority is often SOL. Do you have to pay a premium? Oh well, then those 'Ivy League Geniuses' are pretty smart after all.
@hypocycloidiaspora9 жыл бұрын
+John Smythe Then you and the rest of the 91% can buy a crossover with a CVT. With "appliance cars", the automatic transmission is a given, but this is a sports sedan appealing to a different demographic, with a goal to sell 3000 annually. GM does itself no favors by offering 90% of these cars with automatics, when the demographic wants a higher percentage of manuals.
@johnsmythe18419 жыл бұрын
hypocycloidiaspora There MAY be a higher percentage of folks wanting manual in this demographic than outside of it, or it simply be a higher percentage complaining online. I wager it's the latter. Because if they had manual, which was offered in 2015, you'd have seen a stark increase in sales...you didn't: www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/05/can-really-true-chevrolet-ss-sales-increased-april-2015/ "If a lack of manual availability was blamed for part of the decline last year, did the arrival of a manual transmission provide this April 2015 boost? It seems doubtful. Even if we account for the notion that the manual-trans SS sedans may be moving faster or are simply being handed directly into owners’ hands, the fact that Cars.com shows only 1% of current inventory being made up by DIY shifters is telling." Bottom line: GM KNOWS that people talk a lot of crap online, and know from their focus groups what the masses REALLY want. Do you want manual and this much power: Get a Corvette or a Camaro. From the same article: "Rarity isn’t a death knell. You don’t expect to see Mercedes-AMG GT coupes scattered about your local Wal-Mart parking lot or Jaguar F-Types lined up outside elementary schools in the suburbs. But oddly, GM hasn’t really used the SS as a marketing tool to elevate the image of the Chevrolet brand. And why would they? They have the Chevrolet Corvette to fill that role." Want this much power and four doors? Then most likely you'll get yourself an automatic and be happy. Most folks would be happy because no matter what people say, 99.99999% of car buyers and drivers out there will NEVER be able to take full advantage of the manuals marginal benefits (driving wise) over the automatic. As far as the $1,500 gas guzzler tax on a $50K car? You negotiate the sale of the car to more than compensate for it.

Really?! A 415 HP 6.2L V8 unacceptable. Even Chrysler knows better that 470 HP 6.4L 392 HEMI V8 engines are the real deal. GM is trying so hard to be like Chrysler but they can even have 8 speed automatic transmissions in there camaros and corvettes, especially the SS. That's exactly why we have the 707 HP hellcats that we have today. What a complete fail and waste of time and money.

Kevin Marquez It's not all about raw power. Yes, a 707HP Hellcat can beat an SS in a straight line, but put them on a track, or any road with turns quite frankly, and the SS will out-handle the Hellcat any day of the week. So much so that MotorTrend, in the middle of their Hellcat Charger article, interjected with a huge plug for the SS, basically pissing on Chrysler.
@moparfam300c9 жыл бұрын
Well I strongly disagree that GM's Chevy SS can really beat the Hellcat's handling and steering control on corners in the track or on high mountain corners. Haven't you heard what SRT Performance Pages are?

crazy wheel Bought my G8 GT 3+ years ago for $23.5k. Love it. I'll probably replace the struts soon and keep it for another 30k miles before trading up. Such a great car.

crazy wheel The g8 was a 2006 Holden Commodore and SS is a 2013. You're basically favouring the old one.

crazy wheel LOL, let me know where you can find a "good GXP with low miles" for "around 26k".

It's a nice car but the looks don't go so well with its personality. My girlfriends Chevy Cruze looks more aggressive than this car...and now that I mention it, I'd rather see a Cruze with a V8 than this. However the interior is nice.

$47K! Their crazy. I would get an Audi S4 fully loaded for that or an older 2012 M3 in the low $40's that would smoke this thing and look way better.
@stephenm85799 жыл бұрын
+Steve Kioussis No you wouldn't. Audi S4 starts at almost $50k without any options. You can get a used M3 for around that price if you're lucky enough to find one that low around you, but it's idiotic when people compare new car prices to used car prices. You could pick up a new 2014 SS that hasn't been sold yet for around $37k now... $47k isn't crazy. It's right on par with where the vehicle should be priced, but people can't look past the exterior styling. Oh well, their loss.

should've just called this vehicle the Chevy Nova...

Or the name it was already given under HOLDEN would have been much better.

Looks like a rent a car...cheesy styling that's easy to forget or ignore. Chevy needs to go away for making too many crappy cars. They are again 10 years behind. My '08 Speed3 had direct injection!

It does look like a rental car lmfao

tigerbalm That is your opinion, and an ignorant one at that. The Solstice GXP / Sky Redline for 2006, and hilariously Cobalt SS for 2008 had a direct injection 2.0L. The Corvette and next Camaro have direct injection. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "too many crappy cars". The performance is certainly there as nothing comes close to touching the Corvette on track, and the only thing close to the Camaro's performance for similar money is the Mustang. All of the new interiors are much nicer, note the SS in this video, or the C7 Corvette. What exactly is crappy about them?
