I really like this car. But many hot hatch fans prefer the Megane and Golf or Polo GTi. Not sure why.

Their secret wasn’t a secret at all in engineering, product development, research, design or manufacturing within Ford Motor Co., say seven current and former employees who worked to develop and launch the Fiesta and Focus cars that would become known for defective automatic transmissions. He was referring to the DPS6 dual-clutch "PowerShift" transmission used in 2 million Focus and Fiesta cars sold this decade that is the subject of massive litigation and a federal criminal fraud probe.

I even consider this for my first car... I found some fiesta hatchback under 20k.. i wonder why the price drop so much. any advice i really appreciate.

Under 20K is normal Fiesta. It’s has DCT gearbox. Hear a lot of people said there’s a lot of problem. Fiesta ST is only manual in Malaysia and it’s about 80K for second hand

Get the 1.0 Ecoboost , no gearbox problem. Most great box problem are early 1.6S with DCT gearbox. But you must have budget to maintain the car. Suggest you have 10k in reserve for any potential repair. Check into the past maintenance history , if the seller can’t provide , just walk away. And, preferably you have 10k bank reserve for unforeseen circumstances with the car. Mainly , you have make sure the coolant hoses and cooling system are in good condition, then check the engine for any leakage. Thirdly , check the gearbox (1.0 have more durable and reliable clutch compared to the 1.5 / 1.6 NA). You may need to consider to change : 1) all coolant system + coolant reservoir = approx 2k (this is the major factor that leads to item no.2 ) 2) if engine suffered catastrophic failure and engine swap (halfcut) is need = approx 10-13k 3) gearbox major parts : A) shift fork a= 1.5 k B ) shift fork b = 1.5 k C) Ecoboost 1.0 clutch assembly = approx 5k D ) TCM module = approx 2k-2.5k (this one don’t need to worry much, factory covers 10 years / 200k km warranty , regardless second hand car or maintenance record) 4) AbS module (common issue for fiesta above 7 or 8 years old / 100k km) = approx 2k. 5) recommended service every 7k km (don’t wait till 10k km) with factory recommended spec engine oil 5w20 , around RM 300+ , doesn’t matter you do it at SC or outside workshop , price similar. 6) timing belt. This 1.0 engine runs a very special timing belt, which is submerged in engine oil (yes, it's true). Recommended to changed within 150k km - 200k km. Although Ford claimed this timing belt is "life time" , but it's good to get it replaced. Parts + labour = approx 2k. Always check coolant , at least every week, do your maintenance and change parts proactively , this car is for you. Else , a city or vios might be a better answer.
