I just test drove my first Fit today and I was VERY impressed. EX w/ the 6-speed manual. I was pleasantly surprised how nimble and quick it felt, how well the clutch and stick shift worked together, and overall just put a smile on my face. This is coming from someone whose previous cars included a CTS-V, Jaguar XF, and supercharged Mustang GT. Honda did a great job with this car.

Excellent review Steve, The Jazz/Fit has made a huge leap forward, the interior quality is fantastic for a car in this class, I drove an RS spec 1.5 cvt last week and didn't want to go back to the dealer, the engine was sweet. My wife has had two Jazz's previously, gen 1 and 2. We have now ordered one of these, can't wait!!

I heard about the RS.Can't get them here in the states.Whats the difference to the standard Fit/Jazz? Cheers
@akie64

Statimtek I think the only difference is the RS has a mild skirt on the sides and rear bumper with a larger rear spoiler. Also the HVAC controls are touch screen.

I got myself 2013 Fit III hybrid couple of months ago with only 44,000km on the clock. An amazing car and glad I chose it over the Prius.

I have an EX manual transmission. It's a great car. But I have a few issues after 5 years. It sits too low for bumpy roads in my area. The bottom engine cover broke off. The push start button takes a few times to start up. It would be great to have a bit more horsepower. Say around 200 hp. I'm thinking about doing an engine upgrade in a few years. Otherwise I love my 2015 Fit.

Wow!! the interior has gone through a major overhaul compared to previous gens. I like this FIT. Hmm... maybe I should put this '15 Fit on my list later this year when I plan to get a new car. Price point is very attractive as is the fuel economy compared to my '05 TL. Thanks for test drive Steve.

Now that was cool: keeping the backseat head rests in a lowered position (for those of us who only occasionally transport people), BUT RAISING IT WITH YOUR ELBOW! I had to watch that a couple times. Seriously, that was pretty smooth.

The CVT kill it for me. I can't believe they did not offer the manual on the EX-L.

Just thought I would throw my experience with the 2011 Honda FIT Sport into the mix. I have 106,000 KM on it that includes driving from Toronto to Florida and back and can attest to it's utility and reliability. It has never let me down once and my total maintenance expenses other than routine oil and filter changes consists of two tail lights bulbs totaling $38.60. Clutch and brakes are still just fine, tires have been done. The 5 speed manual is wonderful, I expect a 6 speed would be better still. The reliability and operating costs are rarely mentioned in many of these tests however they are some of the most important features any prospective buyer show consider.

Thanks for your take. The reason I don't spend time opining on subjects such as operating costs, initial quality and dependability is because I usually have an all-new model for just a week. I sometimes quote JD Power test results but I just can't give much perspective on items such as those.

By far, the Honda Fit is the best subcompact in the auto market.
@ScottGibbs
@ScottGibbs 10 жыл бұрын
Why do all car reviewers seem to review the top trim model with all the optional bells and whistles? How many people in the market for a subcompact are actually buying the "top of the line?" I think it would make a whole lot more sense to review the base model then mention all of the upgrades available. Just my dumb opinion ;)
@stevehammes
@stevehammes 10 жыл бұрын
I hear this complaint a lot and I understand where you're coming from - but I also get why the OEMs stock their press fleets with range-topping models; they want to flaunt their best stuff and showcase all of their technologies. It's a conundrum, for sure.
@ScottGibbs
@ScottGibbs 10 жыл бұрын
TestDriveNow.com featuring Drive Time with Steve Hammes That makes total sense. But I think in a way these companies are screwing themselves. People see all these high-end specs in a review and get all excited, but then when they see how much less is actually included in a more affordable trim that excitement diminishes, and it just becomes another bare-bones subcompact. I remember watching reviews of the Fiesta then not finding out till much later that the base model doesn't even have power windows :/ But I get what you're saying and thanks for the reply :)

Awesome review Steve! How's the CVT transmission on this new Honda Fit and cabin noise under hard accelaration and cruising in highway? I wish Honda would bring the SI version of the Fit here in the US. Overall, Honda Fit is the best in class in this segment. Could you do a review of the Ford Fiesta ST. Thanks!

Been waiting for this review! Steve, do you think the new Fit is the best vehicle in the subcompact class? How does it compare to the Kia Soul? Also, the last gen Fit seemed to have a higher driver's seat position than many small cars. Is that retained on this new Fit or has the seat position been lowered?

$21,000 for a fit? That is ridiculous! Cars are getting sooo overpriced now adays and they take advantage of the fact that the banks will finance them up to 96 months which is ridiculous!

Not yet, I'm not sure it will, but people from Honda say that if they do it will most likely have a CVT because apparantly DCTs have not been well received over here, although I'd say us yanks actually hate the CVT more than anything else put into a car

With new suspension changes, it feels LESS connected, not more. This has been discussed and verified numerous times at fitfreak.com The new Fit's biggest disappointments is its poor handling and being built in Mexico (from the start, release was delayed by 3 months due to quality issues).

I will never understand a CVT with paddle shifters. If there aren't separate gears, what the heck is going on?

It's a concession to give sporty-minded drivers the feel like they're changing gears.
@80srockerable

In my subaru cvt I use the paddle to downshift a lot for gradual slow downs to avoid using as much brake. & is the only time I use paddle shifters. But subaru allows you to use when w/transmission in normal mode & defaults back when appropriate. An accord I drove the transmission had to be put in manual mode to use paddle shifter.

Can't say the mpg rating is impressive when a mazda6 with a 2.5 can get 38mpg.

In combined driving, the EPA rates the non-paddle shift CVT Fit at 36mpg and the Mazda6 2.5 automatic at 30mpg. Pretty big difference.

Buyer beware! I have had no mechanical problems with my Fit, but the paint and clear coat on the roof of my 2009 Fit is starting to fade into bald spots. Honda has had similar paint problems with the Civic, Odyssey, CRV, and Pilot which have all been recalled. I'm hoping that they will recall the Fit too. Part of the appeal of a Fit is the low cost of ownership, but now I'm looking at a $1000-2000 paint job if Honda does not issue a recall.

Nice review and nice looking car but i went for a 2014 Fiesta @ 0.0% financing thru Ford Motor Credit. All of the Honda cars I have driven (used to work at a car dealer) and most of their street motorcycles are blander that artificially flavored vanilla bean ice milk. And go ahead and bash Ford (even though they currently make excellent cars) because I'm an ex-Chevy guy up until Obama took it over..hehehe!

Apparently the 6 speed manual revs the same as the old 5 speed , so whats the point of the 6 speed over the 5 other then having an extra cog that does nothing for u and has more gears that can be problematic. As far as mpg the old car was getting the same as the new car according to actual consumer reports and not actual ratings .then there is direct injection alowing more power but yet gets the same 0 to 60 times .... manufacturers and sales people will try to blow smoke up your ass . I was actually considering buying one until I realized that the older model is just as good if not better and most probably more reliable but that will have to be proven in the future

You want a review, The seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats to grace the market in as long as anyone can remember, The head rest is so far forward that if you were not a hunchback before, you will be after. There have been significant reports of the bumper "slouching" and being uneven with the headlights, many reports of broken clips that are intended to hold the panels onto the bottom of the car. the rear plastic is prone to breaking s158.photobucket.com/user/festiboi/media/CAM01053.jpg.html Even worse, the cargo area is virtualy unusable, as I has been lined with PAPER. image.motortrend.com/f/wot/2015-honda-fit-released-in-japan-401851/59398192/2015-honda-fit-cargo-area.jpg as opposed to the old plastic liner on the 2013 fit. image.motortrend.com/f/wot/next-honda-fit-may-offer-cvt-mexican-transmission-plant-opens-in-2015-362643/59365315/2013-honda-fit-cargo-space.jpg Not to even start on the proprietary nav system, or their IPhone only compliant controls, The problem prone ignition coils? made by the same company that produces the ever failing famous ignition module, or the DRL module? Come on Honda, you rest on your laurels and your name, ands soon, neither will hold up. PS ahahahahaha already "dented" the interior of the car kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOXd6Znq9pjjKMm58s

If you are a guy and you want a half-chance of getting a date with a woman, DON'T buy a Yaris or an Accent, they are DATE-KILLERS !!! On the other hand, the interior of a Fit looks really nice, like an Accord, and a woman might be able to get over the fact that it's an economy car and go out with you once, maybe twice. But still, she's going to marry the guy who drives the Audi, so you're out of luck there anyways. I was thinking of getting a Yaris but then my friend told me that no women on this Earth would ever date me, and after talking to a few females at work I found out that was true. So no way I'm going to get a Yaris, I'll get the fit for now and save up for a 3 or 4 year used Audi later.
