Having been a lion for more than 36 years I can tell you that there are lions who care much more about recognition and awards than genuine altruism. Those lions club conferences are about as exciting as watching paint dry. Lionisn is not about titles and wearing badges. Lionisn is about getting your hands dirty without asking for anything in return.

Dear Bill, Congrats for your service years, 36 years is a considerable time. I hope you continue believing in the service and that you're still a Lions member at present. I understand what you mean. International government, conferences, meetings and conventions are needed to attend a global help. Only together we can make a difference in this world. We represent 1.400.000 members. Unfortunately nobody and nothing is perfect. The only priority here is to cover the needs of humanity. Lions is attending needs of millions of most needed people since more a century. International foundation, structures, conferences, meetings and conventions are needed to organize, assure and attend the growing global need for help. If Lions disappears, millions of people won't be attended anymore. That would involve terrible consequences. Your comment is relevant, but it doesn't bring on a solution, or the right alternative. We shouldn't destroy what already exists unless we can replace it for something better. That isn’t the spirit. Everyone has dirty laundry, it's supposed to be washed inside the house. It's our duty to educate our fellow Lions to behave in a correct way, showing them the right example as you say. Millions of Lions members are getting their hands dirty on a daily base without asking anything in return. I think that's the true and realistic message that should be spread about Lionism. We serve. Kind regards,

I agree! However, as President of a Lions Club in Hawaii (D50) I have no problem awarding my members and recognizing them for their efforts. There's something to be said for giving credit where credit is due.

@@DirkBackaertRealtorCostaBlanca I agree Dirk. God bless you and your service to Lionism. I've been a Lion since 1965. I'm very humbly proud to be a Lion and to serve humanity everywhere. We don't do it for the glory to be seen. We do service for our fellow men, women and children all over the world. I only do the service because it's my calling. Think about it all you Lions. I could go on and on but, to some it might be called being 'smug' about serving.

Thanks for your input. I came across this video because a friend had asked me to tell her what Lions Club is - and even though my father had been quite involved in it, I kinda struggled to deliver facts. All I had was rather mixed sentiments about it that date back to my childhood. Those sentiments reflect what you wrote lol. 👌🏼😏 This „documentary“ (which is obviously not impartial) was interesting to watch - and I think it shows an ongoing „conflict“ that can be traced right back to the origins: From being a group of rich people that existed to aid one’s own financial success to one that helps others…while STILL largely being a club made up out of members, who are largely financially well-off - and where thus one’s own business interests at least subtly are bound to play a role. Yet the POSITIVE I see nonetheless is that given the backdrop of times, where ruthless self-enrichment was rampant, there is a somewhat novel idea in there - helping others. Maybe it is an inherent conflict we have as human beings that we are challenged by the question when we should be looking out for ourselves - and when we should be there for others. Or: How to somehow bring healthy self-interest in harmony with selfless service for the benefit of others. It’s a difficult philosophical question, I would say - but one that’s worthy of investigating further.

Why haven't they helped the blacks during segregation if they are so helpful? Inquiring mind wants to know. Even now innocent blacks that are being wrongly convicted/falsely accused. I have so many questions.

Because, these groups are essentially lesser evils of groups like the FreeMasons & Boulé. None of their goals are for helping mankind. That’s their guise. They create the wars then swoop in like knights in shiny armor to save the world - I just cracked the code for you 👍🏼
