2015 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero Oil & Filter Change

This is an oil and filter change for the 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero ABS.
The part number I used was for a K&N oil filter: KN 300.
The stock Kawasaki oil filter was 16097-0008, however, when I asked my dealer what number to use before I found that K&N had one available he said it was 16097-0007 so I'm not sure which Kawasaki one to use or if it even matters.

Great video, next time when you drain the oil remove the oil fill cap while it's draining and you will have a much faster flow as the air will be able to pass through the drain plug as well. Thanks for the visual.

5.0 quarts for my change everytime. Stand her up and check the stick it's right in the middle. I also just don't use any 10w40. Just my overall preference.

Also forgot to mention changing the crush washers on the drain plugs.

Do you need to use bike oil that they recommend or a good regular oil I've heard two stories came with synthetic blend Kawasaki oil

I have this model of bike. I can't find the screen filter doe it have one? Does the 1700 have one? If it does where?

That's what I thought as well and it is what the instructions say. I started out that way but when I was trying to take out the oil filter I didn't have enough ground clearance so I put it back on just the kick stand and then a bunch more oil drained out so to me that means I could have just started out on the kick stand but I'm no mechanic lol.

I had to put 5.5 quarts to get a little over halfway on the dipstick Mark's. Yes I screwed it in to check with bike level.

What about the oil screen? Video never mentions that.

its not gonna be good when your clutch starts slipping from using regular motor oil

That is right Roger friction modifiers can cause headaches. If the clutch starts to slip you must wash all the clutch pressure and friction disks but no way to remove all the residuals from all the internals. Always use Motorcycle Oil like AMS Oil

Just curious, I was always under the impression that u gotta keep the bike upright to do the oil change. Keeping it on the kickstand is fine to do also?

nightcat711 You can change oil on kick stand.....I do it all the time. But...you need to check oil level with bike being upright.

Yes that's why it's just shy of 5 quarts not 4.5. Reading it tilted on stand. All of my 66 bikes I've owned in 30 years I always stand bike straight up to check oil

I understand these bikes have a wet clutch, i don't think you should be using regular motor oil.

Hello i have a Kawasaki Vaquero 2011, but i don't have the user manuel. Can you tell me after how many miles or Kilometer we need to change oil. Someone tell me it's at every 7500 miles (12000 km). I had a Yamaha road star before and i made oil change at every 6000 km. And an other question do i need to use synthetic oil ? Thanks

Get you some oil... www.MEtricoil.com will keep the clutch feeling like new throughout the oil life... also quieten the gears some.

When have a wet clutch motorcycle and use car oil ur definitely gonna have clutch problems ,please if ur new rider do research first ur gonna cause someone to have major problems
