The context made it really funny to me: all up in our heads talking about these massive clashes of gods, stories and societies... And then the phone rings and it's like "back to the basic necessities of daily life in 2015". 😂

Music also sets us in time. That is, what you are hearing at this moment is "now." What you heard is the "past" and those two present/predict the next sound which is the "future." Or you could call your anticipation of the next sound the "future."

The net of marduk is a symbol for combined knowledge. Because a net has knots. Marduk is therefor a god that uniets different stories of different tribes, and makes something uselful out of it. Because befor Marduk came, all the different gods produced just chaos and killed the order. At least, that is how i understand it.

I am from Denmark and a friend (who's also danish) introduced me to your lectures. I am currently watching this course chronologically, and a question struck me. The thing is that Denmark is the country in the world where the biggest percentage of the population pays its taxes. It is also a (very) secular society. Furthermore there has been steady immigration to denmark since the 1970's, primarily from neighboring states, but also a pretty large group from eastern and southern countries like Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq to name a few. One of the things that is apparent is that many of the people who immigrate from these countries do not pay taxes when coming to Denmark. Another thing that is apparent is that the people who immigrate from these countries tend to be more religious on average than indiginous danish people. Now considering this, it seems to me more accurate to use sociological and political tools (theories) to describe the phenonoma(it's rooted in poverty, social situations, adapting to culture etc). And furthermore it seems that the introduction/revitalisation of a religious/mythological world-view has in many ways meant a destabilisation of society rather than giving it "solid ground to stand on". Would you call this two stories, a secular and a religious, "fighting"? Political and social scientists say that it is in large part rooted in the fact that denmark is a pretty homogenous society and some say it's really a fight between protestantism and islam. Anyways do you think there is a way to account for this? And do you think the two phenonoma (paying taxes and secularism) can be causally connected?

It hit me while I was watching this that we have done exactly the thing the Sumerians warned us against in the west. We've killed Apsu, and now we're trying to live on his corpse. And the real amazing thing is that Tiamat is coming out of the middle east to destroy us. I guess if she didn't show up there she'd pop up somewhere else anyway.

if the incentives are set up in the right way (and this is arbitrary) merely telling the truth/conscientiousness allows to ascend the hierarchy; and that's what Western culture has distilled in this figure (i might be wrong)

Yet another patriarchal interpretation of the world we live in. This is a story about Tiamar - The Creator of Everything, who is the divine force that created the Universe, gods, humans... the epilogue of the myth comes as a warning to faulty choices human have made by killing Apsu and then fighting and steeling power from Tiamat. There are lots of different metaphors deriving from this story, I would say, the most important myth in the history of humankind and all of them must be presented.

J.P. in all his dorky geekdom! He clearly has no concept of Music. I love the pink shirt..HA! He often sounds like the crazy girl at work who has a "thing" for me. So poor at relating simple ideas. Marduk and Ti mat...(Enuma Elish). The worst thing about this, he jump from Mesopotamian religion to natural disasters, stating that New Orleans and the Dutch live under water. The land is below SEA LEVEL by artificial constructs, created by humans. lastly, why is his phone not on vibrate? Oh, wait, wait a gay ringtone! HA!

@@MRKetter81 you are young and stupid. What this man has been talking about in the last couple of years I've had been expounding for nearly 30 years. Since My late teens. To me this is all common sense but when I look at him in this video I pity him. He was awkward, he was unprofessional, and unrehearsed. You have never met me. But if you ever will, (and of course you) you will find me and command of the English language not fiddling with a microphone in a pink shirt. I would be dressed simply, speak directly, with complete emphasis and direction toward my point, and you would understand who I am. There will be no confusion about what I have to say. And I would say it from the lowest person on the street to the leaders that govern the countries of the world. I have going to court I've been in police custody and I have always won every argument. I have no problem arguing with you so What is it you want to learn, child?
