Would this be a good first car? I have the mkney here to buy one and I’ve sorted out insurance just not sure if I’m better with something a little bit smaller. I am 17 very soon and I can drive pretty well

Is it true that a diesel automatic is more economical than a petrol automatic?

More often than not, yes

like for like, same engine sizes i would say always, but then there is the diesel and petrol price to take into account, diesels are usually dearer to start off with, and its also dearer to buy at the pumps so a better calculation is cost per mile

Would also add that diesels are prone to many EGR/DPF/Injectors/Turbo issues which usually occur due to a high proportion of short urban trips. If you're doing small mileages definitely go for the petrol.
