The reason they hate it is because they have money to spend on stupid fancy cars. To someone who can barely afford living this is gold.

Thanks. It is slow but so were cars in 1980's and 1970's. Approaching 110,000. Another new set of tires and I changed the cvt fluid (did it myself). It is due for spark plugs and another serpentine belt. Maybe struts in the not too distant future.

@@frugalfun4817 I get the spark plugs every 100k miles but 2 serpentine belt replacements in 110k miles? That's seems a bit excessive? I changed my belt at 75k miles and did my front brake pads and had to change the back drums at 50k miles. I'm now at 80k miles and the brakes still feel good. Those drums are really hard to find aftermarket for 2014/2015 models and OEM is $300 a drum!!! Granted they do come with pressed in ball bearings though. I skipped getting more 165 65r14 tires and just slapped on some cheap Brillantis2 175 65 r14 for $37 a tire. My mpg went down some but nothing terrible. With a lead foot and the AC always on, I'm still averaging 38 mpg. I also changed my CVT7 fluid twice already at 30k mile intervals, using OEM fluid. I got it done at Aamco plus filter changes for about $250. I only change the filters out every 60k miles though. That's weird your going thru brakes like crazy. Have you just had to change the front pads and rotors or have you had to change the rear drums too?

These things impress me so much. I currently drive a 2011 Toyota Avalon, the "japanese Buick" if you will. Basically the polar opposite of this car, and yet I find myself captivated by these tiny, economical performers. So many examples of Mirages going past 150k+ miles with little to no issue. I truly believe they are Toyota-like in reliability, if taken care of. So sad to see they are discontinued in the USA.

Been around cars my entire life, my father was a mechanic, my uncle's were mechanics ... Lisa from My Cousin Vinny, that's me. I've owned many, many cars and this isn't my first 3 cylinder. Geo Metro, Smart Car and now the Mitsy. Owned three Mitsubishi cars, Talon Turbo AWD, a Stealth Twin Turbo AWD and now the Mirage. Never had a problem with any of them. My Mirage has over 150,000 miles and runs well. Just did a complete brake job, new pads, shoes, rotors and drums; $450. Ball joints were $25 each. Shaping up to be the best "bank car" I've ever owned, not the fastest. (911 Twin Turbo AWD was the fastest) Thanks for the video, good to see.

Mine (2015 1.2 CVT) has 110.000 km (65.000 miles). Driving in northwestern Europe. Zero defects. I still have the original brake pads on it. I also cruised 150 km/h (90 m/h) on the German Autobahn. No problem on flat sections. Uphill it is can't go over 130 km/h (80 mph) though unless you let the engine rev at 5000 rpm, which is maltreating it.

Nive review, thanks. It is possible to drive without ever using the footbrake at all. If you learn to do this, while other drivers will be a bit irritated with you, you will never need to do anything to the brakes and good quality (low energy) tires will get retired by being too old, not by wear. You will also do less environmental damage, make less noise and get seriously high gas mileage. I mean why buy the lowest cost car but then waste money by driving in a wasteful fashion? Super high economy driving technique will add about 5 minutes per hour to your trip times, but in a whole lifetime, you will save that time by never going to hospital after a wreck, because you will never have one of course. Also your trade in at 200,000 miles and ten years will be worth about $700 more because your car will still be in mint condition.

No. I'm up to 117,000 miles now and no CVT issues. I changed the fluid at 100,000 miles (no filter change, no flush). Did it myself using STP CVT fluid. (I posted the video). Planning on changing it again at 150,000. I really hope to get it to 10 years old without major issues at which time I'll replace it.

@@frugalfun4817 Thanks for the reply. I just bought a 2017 mirage that has the CVT auto as well and so far I'm loving the fuel mileage it gets. But the trans feels like it's a little confused sometimes. I have an appointment to get it looked at next week to see if it feels normal to the techs at Mitsubishi. Could just be the way they are behind a low power engine. Only CVT I've ever driven was in a Ford and it was smooth as butter. This mirage is a little quick to drop the RPM's down and it kinda chugs and bucks a little taking off from a stop. At only 26k miles I figure I'll let the dealer take a peek at it.
