86,000km 2015 Prius C owner...no major issues, just regular oil changes and air filter replacements at the specified 8,000km factory recommended intervals. Far from a refined ride, but it gets the job done! Have never had issues carting around a mess of things for work purposes (seats down, headrests & privacy cover removed), or four passengers on day trips. Only real restrictions I've run into is cargo space for all four passengers can be tight or downright impossible, depending on the purpose of our trip. Of course, the trump card of this car is it's fuel economy and mileage. I plan on paying off the car (financed it) in full before I consider upsizing! Happy with it overall

Thanks for explaining the fact that the Prius C is 'VERY LOUD' at highways speeds. By comparison, the new 2016 Hyundai Elantra is a very quiet highway cruiser, and about the same price as the Prius C. Hyundai has put in an extra amount of sound insulation to try to make the new Elantra very quiet, and it works.

2.6/100 is my third best fuel rating on my Prius c2, I get better mileage on the highway, the car is extremely fun to drive, the climate air conditioning is just awesome, the headlights at night are the brightest ever I have seen, illuminating both sides of the road,owning this car for the fuel savings,the interactive dash controls,puts the driver into fuel saving mode, and the feeling of always trying to beat your previous score, owning a hybrid is not about driving fast off the line or passing the Jones on the highway. its about taking charge and ownership of your own style and fuel savings, with the long quality of Toyota innovations. this little car has a pack of technology,with its none airbags, built in roll cage for the batteries,built in front bumper screw in tow hook, hillside braking, engine braking full time traction control,whisper quiet electric drive,.and if you feel lazy you have eco mode,to let the computer control your speeds somewhat. plus you can take advantage of special hybrid parking lots at IKEA.

The fun part of driving a Prius is not speed, fast cornering, engine noise .. it's the fact that you are always trying to stay in full EV mode as long as you can and drive as effecently as you can safly can.

Great Review! I just purchased the Prius C and commute from Puyallup/Tacoma to Seattle and Bellevue (about 75 miles [120km] each way) every day. Highway is fine, you just need to know how to control the car. I will say though, it is not the most quiet car. I am 6' 3" and it fits me. I get about 54mpg Highway and 64mpg City. My best tip, if you are on the highway, accelerate quickly, change your dashboard view to statistics, it shows you a green bar with EV, ECO, and Fuel meters (Green and Red). I suggest accelerating quickly, then as you reach optimal speed, coast and accelerate only after dropping 3-5mph under speed limit. While going down a hill, using the EV (lower green bar) will allow you to accelerate using only electric and still maintain good speed. Then coasting once you go over or at the speed limit will recharge battery. I currently get 60-70+ mpg in the city as I mostly use electric (I go slower and stick in the right lane). I currently can maintain at least 55mpg on the highway. The biggest issue I see is when I go hiking in the mountains, this car is not very fond of steep or long hills. Traveling over I-90 into Eastern Washington gets my MPG as I am going up the pass to sit around 30-40. However, going downhill from a stop at the pass gets me around 75-85mpg. It does even out to around 50mpg total.

I see that you are enjoying your C too. Was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza with a manual transmission. Switched to a C back in 2014 and never looked back, it is one of the best car buying choice I've ever made. Don't really know why numerous reviewers automatically jump to the conclusion that those driving a Prius is being a tree hugger, an enviromentalist, someone who wants to yield less of a carbon footprint. I say they are all wrong! Why buying gas knowing a major chunk of the gas money are going toward the hungry bureaucrats? I would gladly spend by hard earn money for a more sophisticated vehicle. Driving a hybrid car means a totally different driving experience and it is a cool one.

+mipmipmipmipmip Yes, it does. I have been able to hold up to 70mph on a 11% incline. it was not easy on the car, but it was the speed limit. Most of the time it can get easily hold 60 on steep hills.

I've heard certain complaints, but honestly, it sounds like you drive the way that I do in my current (non-hybrid) car, so picking one of these up wouldn't be a pain for me, it seems.

Make sure you are not bothered by visibility issues. I am particularly disappointed by the thick A pillars and the interior rear view mirror that hangs way too low that blocks forward visibility. Learned those shortcomings after a few months owning the vehicle. Also the rear headrests are so large that they blocks two thirds of the view. If you have an adult sitting in the middle rear...well you get picture. If you can get past all that, the Prius C is a great fuel saving vehicle!

The road noise has a lot to do with the tires that comes with the car. Believe your tester comes with Goodyear Fuel Max and those before it had Bridgestone Turanza. Switched mine to Altimax RT43 and they made a world of difference and a much cushier ride too.

Looking at a left over 2016 Prius C for about 16 grand. It is the Package 2, which is fine for me. I can also get new 2017 Corolla LE (not the Eco) for $14,800. Any thoughts? I plan on major road trips over 2000 miles to Baja every year and keeping it for a very very long time (over 20 years). I have a 92 VW GTI 16v in beautiful shape, but 2 kids, flights too expensive to visit Baja.. I am thinking if selling it for a really reliable good gas MPG car. The 2017 Mirage SE 5 speed is also an option, with similar MPG to the Prius C, for $12,150 including Cruise and many other nice stuff. i AM going to have 1 rear facing seat, the other kid can be behind the driver forward facing.

Have just purchased a Prius C but our model doesn't have a touch screen. As for road noise it depends on the road surface so dont let that put you off. The car to my way of thinking is amazing in its technology and especially with 4.9 ltrs per 100km The other thing is the Eco mode which gives you a slower take off but if you want a quick take off and be first off and burn rubber then dont buy this but if your older I would recommend.

I have this car, in the base model, only reason why I got it was for ride share. It's great on gas, but that's about it. It's very zippy in the city. I couldn't justify paying more money for the Prius 4. For that kind of money I could have just gotten a GTI.

Hiya, can't quite remember the make or model of this one, it was a few years ago now, however, it was on the chunky side, so a smaller/slimmer one should work better :)

besides the gas consumption , and depending on how long you're keeping the car for and how much you drive. I think you need to take those into factor as well. I got the model two on a 2013, the time I got the car, gas price was at an all high, through out the length of my ownership, if I don't get back any savings from using less gas, it should at least be a wash if I were to get a yaris. I am also paying less for maintenance (for now), less for insurance, and I do love that I'm getting around 650KM per tank, almost 700KM during the summer time if I drive carefully. but I agree you might be better off getting a yaris, depending on your use case, or a corolla iM.

also I have a habit of applying water repellent on the windows, so it solves the problem of the rear wiper being too small.

does it have OD like other subcompact Toyota models? I liked your video; I would've liked to see more of a higher speed test too so I could've judged the level of noise or how fast it can merge into highway traffic.

Family Wheels thank you for your reply. after I wrote my comment I realized it comes with a CVT. some cars with CVT are quite fast though but I guess that depends on various factors. hanks again. I liked your comments; I found them relevant and also fluid.

It's interesting going back to watch this review after all this time. I've owned this car in the "two" trim level for a few years now, and I guess you get used to all the compromises, especially when I'm consistently getting under 5.0L/100km, even on some highway trips. The hardest part about getting into a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or EV is those compromises you mention, and whether or not you can forgo some luxury touches for less money at & less trips to the pumps
@FamilyWheels
@FamilyWheels 6 жыл бұрын
It's funny how you just get used to what you're driving and its quirks. The thing is, I don't think you have to make those compromises any more when it comes to hybrids and EVs. Take a look at the Hyundai Ioniq, for example... fun to drive, equal fuel economy to what you're seeing, far more roomy. These cars are becoming far more liveable, that's for sure!

So funny I was driving the same 2015 Prius C today and I just couldn't find how to switch from mph to kmh on the main upper menu. Whats interesting is that on the middle menu everything is in kmh but only speedometer gage is in mph. But I did drive this Prius C off road today and you wont believe it actually did very well. I went uphill claim at 75 degrees where only 4x4 go and i manage to get to my destination without problems. Here you can se my video. Also for the wholy ride approx. 1hr on city + highway and off road i got 5.1 ltr /100km reading.Taken by GoPro Hero 4 Silver at 1080p/60fps : kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=NheVZEPVEXY
