Working on a general right now, same thing with the snorkel gear, it appears that water got up through the prop shaft seal, not a fan of the driveline on these polaris sxs'

Nasty gear oil smell???? Well now we know why it blew up. Never dump gear oil in these. Way to thick, this diff needs a thinner oil, its splash lubricated, which is fine, but the open bearings & high gears won't get any oil. They start to wipe out & all the metal junk heads down to the snorkel gear.
