My brand new 2015 Camaro ZL1 w/ only 1800 miles and 100% stock has been knocking since day one. Bought new from Fremont Chevrolet 2 weeks ago -- hopefully they sort it out for me :(
Knock detection was done with a DashLogic plugged into the OBD2 port.
EDIT: I'm fixed! (May 2015 @ 2000 miles)
PROBLEM: The knock sensor was doing its job, the problem was California Gas is 91 octane but this car is tuned for 93 octane. When I took it to the dealership, they called out an engineer and they did a "gas test" and the engineer said "This is 91 octane gas! This car requires 93 octane." He decided it was user fault and recommended against warranty claims. I'm assuming he wasn't from California and didn't realize we only get 91 here. After he left, the service manager was obviously confused like I was, but covered his ass and said that the engineer told them this was normal and everything was fine. WTF? That's not what I heard. The service manager said sorry there's nothing we can do (I did some yelling). Neither GM nor the Chevy dealership were willing adjust my car for 91 octane. The car manual says 91 but it doesn't say anything about whether 5-10 degrees of knock retard is acceptable or not (it's not but that's not for me to decide). So unless I want to take legal action, I'm S.O.L.
SOLUTION: Knowing it was a tuning problem and GM and the Dealership would not help me, I embraced the problem, bought some mods, went to a custom tuner asked for a super safe tune for 91 octane and now I'm problem free and couldn't be happier with the car.
Dec 27, 2015 -- I'm at 6500 miles and problem free. Mods: Full ARH Header-back exhaust, HF Cats, Plugs, Weight Reduction. On 91 octane pump gas, I'm about 650bhp and 3940lbs (give or take) which is less than my 2013 Shelby GT500 weight when I added the Griggs Racing suspension to it -- just sayin.
