I have a DDX9703s and it is NOT in the list of devices (radios) but I was told I could mirror my phone. it does show that option on the stereo. how old is the list? please advise ASAP before I waste money on a new phone.

Thanks! The Smartphone Control is not available for the DNX574S. All controls would have to be done from the phone itself if using the CA-C3AV on the AV-IN source.

Hi, I’m looking into buying a kenwood unit with this feature. Does the phone screen need to be on at all times when I’m using this mirroring? Or would it be ok if I open an app then I can click off the screen on my phone?

It's possible that it could vary depending on phone, but usually it does require the screen to stay on.

Thanks for the video.Can you please tell me how dependant the smartphone control is of Bluetooth.I don't like Android Auto due to it forcing Bluetooth and and looking for an alternative that does not rely on Bluetooth.

For Android devices, Bluetooth is the only connection method available on our Android Auto ready receivers for control from the receiver.

Back in 2016, more Android phones had MHL output. Now, most newer Android phones do not have MHL output. The phone used in this video was a Samsung S4. On the Wi-Fi organization's website, you can search by specific criteria to see which phones have this feature.

Why did you drop the ddx9903s ? Is it because of the carplay hissing and hissing on the home page that is not ground related ? Its not even listed on the web site any more . Both updates has not fixed the problem . It was dropped in less than 8 months . I do not want to be stuck with this defective radio . If I send it back to you will you replace it with the updated version the ddx9904s ?

if they did pull the 9703 from the market and replaced - did they say they would sub out the 9704 unit? I'm finding this really hard to follow. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more if this 9704 took care of the issues (providing there were some). I don't want to be picky - but it is an expensive thing for me. No one around me seems to have the 9704. The positive thing about Best Buy is that if you buy from them and they install - they will also uninstall if you sell or trade in your car......... that free service is part of their install service.........but I really don't want to have the radio put it and then have to go thru the process of removing it and replacing it because it may have issues..... I have to drop off my car - then go back and get it.....etc and all that takes time. no one is close to me, so it's a drive...... I have a Mitsubishi Outlander spot 2017 and it came with the factory radio and no Sirius. This whole pilgrimage started because I wanted navigation on the radio and I wanted Sirius installed on the radio as opposed to a separate unit that I'd have to find a place for on my dash............I do have bluetooth via my phone on the radio so I can stream Sirius, but I can't get Android auto..... I'd love to take someone to lunch and just fire questions at them......I do have a budget - but I don't want buyer's remorse. I still have time to change the radio I'm buying because the 9703 isn't scheduled to be installed for another 2 weeks.......I just can't find all the answers in one place. and answers are confilicting from one source to another.

They told me I had to send it in to be fixed and they would not upgrade it to the new model that doesn't have a hissing problem .

If you do not have MHL on your phone is it still possible to connect an android phone to the radio kenwood 9703s? can you use chromecast? I just purchased a Samsung S5 which runs on 4.3 android and does have MHL. will that work with only bluetooth or do I have to attach a cable in addition? MHL to HDMI?

You can connect a phone without MHL, but you will not have any touch control from the receiver and it will require third party products such as Miracast to HDMI or hard-wired options with our CA-C3AV. With the Samsung S5, you can use the KENWOOD smartphone control app with our KCA-MH100, but will also need the Samsung 5 to 11 pin tip adapter or equivalent. Thanks!

I and another person cannot seem to get our phones to connect. he is using the correct cables and does have MHL. I currently don't have MHL but will soon have a phone that does. The other issues I have are these: while driving and using Andoid Auto - I rec'd an incoming phone call. the map remained (after I hit the nav arrow) but the directions, moving map, and turning features stopped. I was in the middle of traffic in an unfamiliar area and now had to hang up my call in order to hopefully continue to get directions........since Android Auto literally takes over the phone - I was unable to see the screen on my phone, so I couldn't use that either. Could you tell me why it works that way or should it NOT be doing that? Fortunately once I ended the call - I was able to see where to turn in time to make the turn....... could you also provide more info on using Miracast? please be specific. is that the same as Chromecast? my understanding is that they require and internet connection and I do not have internet built into my car. although I do have internet on my phone - I'm not sure how to connect both the car and the phone since my phone isn't a router. it's just a phone so since that network feature is unavailable - not sure how that works. we'll both be waiting for your reply.

Starting at the top: Does the phone's display show on the KENWOOD screen via the HDMI source? If it does not, there is a physical cable/adapter issue. In regards to Android Auto maps, this is not typical operation, but could have to do with your specific phone and the data transfer rates of the phone and signal service data. Try performing a "wipe cache partition" more often on the phone and also a different physical cable to see if that improves your results. Also, since Android Auto supports WAZE maps, I suggest trying the same test on WAZE maps, assuming you are using Google Maps now and see if that changes your results. It's also possible that the version of Android Auto or Google Maps on the phone may be effecting this. Next: Miracast. Miracast is a protocol, not a product and does not require an internet connection. It is a localized Wi-Fi connection between 2 devices. Chromecast is more of a TV service oriented device. Universal Miracast dongles simply plug into the HDMI input and provide a method for wireless screen display transfer. Thanks!

Ok...I have a Kenwood 9903s, seems to be a great radio, but I'm having soome connection problems. I have downloaded the Kenwood Smartphone software on my LG6, and the Android, but the radio will not connect using the USB port to use android. It has connected bluetooth thru the radio and phone. But the IPhone connection works. (I have changed the connect from IPhone to Android on the radio also, but android does not work). HELP

The USB port in regards to Android devices is only for them to connect for Android Auto, which is a completely separate function/source than HDMI, which is what accommodates the KENWOOD Smartphone Control app on supported devices.

If you have the ability to plug a different Android phone in for testing, I would suggest starting there to confirm operation. Next, or if not, try performing a "wipe cache partition" procedure on your phone. Also, try multiple different cables if available.

On my Samsung Note 5, the Kenwood App forces me into Android Auto, which means I do not get the screen mirroring you show above. Android Auto is much more limited.

Warren Randall. Nope. I still use good old-fashioned iPods for my music in the car, attached by wire in the glove box, so I never even try to use Android auto. I do Bluetooth audible books on tape from my phone but that's just using the Bluetooth setting, not Android auto play.

I just talked to Kenwood and why they pulled the DDX9903s radio off the market , Its something in the hardware and the updates won't fix it . It has to be sent in to fix the hissing issue .

Steve, this is not true, the DDX9903S (2016 Model) was replaced by the DDX9904S (2017 model) it you have any tech issues please contact customer support at 800-KENWOOD.

The ddx9903s went on sale in July 2016 and not sold after July 2017 and taken off the web page in July 2017 so something was is wrong with it or it wouldn't be pulled so fast . There is a known hissing problem . I call and was told my people at Kenwood they know about the hissing sound . I was also told its not a software fix but a hardware fix and has to be returned ,so don't act like you don't know about the problem .

I just purchased the 9703s. someone said that was basically the same radio as the 9903s. any issues with the 9703s? It hasn't been installed yet. it's scheduled to be installed by BestBuy Sept 5th 2017. I guess I assume that the higher the number (9903 vs 9703) would be newer.

LOL. it was a phone call to kenwood. that was the person that told me the ddx9703s was almost identical to the ddx9903s and that the 9704 was again - almost the same radio but there were a few things differnt. I think they removed the HDMI slot from the back but don't remember . it took a lot of questions and phone calls to decide on the radio. I went with the kenwood ddx9703s because it was affordable, seemed to have all the options I wanted and the install was included but won't be done until sept. so if there is something I should know - now is the time to tell me. Hi, for the anybody who can help me.... I have Kenwood DDX793 along with the Maestro RR. I dont have the camera because I didn't feel they belonged on my 2011 mustang. Whenever I go in revers the screen goes all blue trying to access a camera that was never setup. I looked in all the setting and nothing will work. Is this possible or will I have this forever? I just want to back out of my drive way without having a blue screen and re-having to push the home button.

Is the purple with white stripe connected ? Is the light green (parking sensor wire) connected . The only way the radio will know that your in reverse is if the purple with white stripe wire is connected . What that wire does when its connected to the rear backup light wire it sends voltage to the radio telling it to turn on the back up camera . Its not the act of putting the car in reverse that makes the camera come on its when the wire gets power to it that turns the camera on . If you did have a camera connected you would be able to turn the rear or front camera on and stay on . Its good to have it stay on if your pulling something and want to keep a eye on it . For some reason On my radio the ddx9903s If you don't connect the light green wire to a ground the backup guideline setup want work . It won't let you move the lines until the light green line is connect to a ground . I would try disconnecting the purple with white stripe first . That should stop the radio from getting the power to tell it to come on .

I got a Kenwood ddx9903S in May 2018. Pandora and Android Auto both were working for a month and then they stopped. Android Auto doesn't launc; Pandora is disconnected. Audio is still playing through bluetooth but without android auto and pandora app this head unit is useless and have no advantages over my OEM head unit. Frustrating!

They both are definitely supported on your receiver. If they are not working, typically it can be resolved with a different, higher quality cable, as cables tend to go bad over time.
