Excellent . Comprehensive. Though I I don't have the setup to do it, you've shown me what a GOOD tech's proper procedure should look like.

I have. 2016 GS350 F sport AWD with electronic brakes. Are there separate parking brake pads on the inner rear rotors?
@TheOriginalBeeCee
@TheOriginalBeeCee Ай бұрын
Yes, it has parking brake shoes inside of the rear rotor.

my car battery went dead while bleeding my brakes. After i finished the brake flush, i jumped the engine but then immediately the check engine light turned on. I went to autozone and code ABS malfunction and traction off showed up on dash. not knowing what to do, i removed the battery, check engine light turned off for now but for how long?

Modern vehicles don’t like loosing power. Most will throw every dash light when power is low/battery is bad. Just a random example…Honda’s for example whole dash lights up with low voltage/bad battery. I’m sure it just didnt like not having correct voltage. You should be fine. If there was a real issue the light(s) would have been back on immediately.

How much should I be paying for a brake job on my 17
@TheOriginalBeeCee
@TheOriginalBeeCee 3 ай бұрын
Thats a pretty subjective question..really depends. Depends on who’s doing it, if you’re buying parts or their providing the parts, etc. me personally i would charge $225 in labor for this job.

Doesn’t the GS have the electronic parking brake? Any extra steps we need to take such as putting the electronic brake into service mode so it doesn’t damage the internal complements?

I answered this in a couple other comments. But, the ebrake is definitely electric. But I’ve done the brakes on this car twice now and retracted the rear both times manually with 0 issues, no problems retracting, no lights, no braking issues, no nothing. And if you look at the rear caliper when I pull it off at 21:10, there is nothing electrical associated with it. No wires or anything running to it…just a regular caliper with a brake hose running to it, thats it….just like any older/regular rear caliper setup…..so I’m not sure why this has been a concern with this job. With no electrical components associated with the caliper itself, and doing these brakes twice on this vehicle, I don’t see why “electrical retraction” has been something that has been associated with this job. There is no electric or wiring running to the caliper itself for that to even be possible lol.

Question , I have the feeling ls that my calipers do jam up mostly when it gets wet or get contact with water or after cleaning , how do I service the calipers ? Or is it cause by the retainer bolt possibly ?
@TheOriginalBeeCee
@TheOriginalBeeCee Жыл бұрын
They might need to be bled. I would potentially bleed all corners and see how it feels from there!

Dare I ask... What will happen if you forget to install that cotter pin on the retaining pin? I'm asking cause I just did a brake job on one of these cars not too long ago like about 2 hours ago. And on my way driving home I just remembered that I didn't install that cotter pin on the passenger side. I might ask the service advisor to see if he can get a hold of the customer but when I remembered that it left a sour taste in my mouth hense why I'm watching this video. They were rushing me cause this guy needed his car at 6 but we were already running late cause the parts delivery drivers were being slow.

I do think having the cotter pin is pretty important, as that pin does have the ability to spin/move a bit. But that said I also think the chances of the retaining pin backing out is unlikely, especially anytime immediately. Just my opinion…..I think having the service advisor reach out would be in your best interest, not even just for peace of mind…but I think both the advisor and customer should admire you for keeping it real and being honest and concerned with it being correct.

Good morning, is this the RWD or AWD F Sport model. I’m trying to figure out before I do mines but I thought it had the Electronic Parking Brake system where caliper piston had to be retracted prior to service.

Wow, 100 lb-ft for the front caliper bolts. I have the Lexus 2008 Repair Manual, volume 1, for the GS 460 and GS 350. Documented on page SS-82, the torque value is 58 lb-ft for the front caliper bolts and 40 lb-ft for the rear caliper bolts. My, how the values has changed--or has it? It is a testament to the quality of your vlog that you presented the page documenting the rear caliper torque value. That stated, what was your source document?
