This video explains why this is my dream car. It does everything... Of course a front engine rear wheel drive naturally aspirated manual transmission car is more fun in the canyon roads but the RS7 can be defined in one word: versatile. Snow? No problem thanks to its quattro system. Long road trip? No problem thanks to the quiet engine, 4 cylinder mode, trunk space, and 4 seats. Wanna have fun? Audi drive select on Dynamic, step on the gas and voila
@SvenTeresniak6 жыл бұрын
But there is one thing the RS7 likes the most: the German Autobahn. Pure fun. :) And as its not much work to get the engine over 700 or 800hp you don't have to fear a stock rs8 v10+ there.

The stock non Performance is already insane. The performance is just heavenly. That raw stock exhaust is simply breathtaking. What's better is the valve switching to 4 valves during economy mode driving which is most of the time. Economy is just spectacular for a super sports saloon over c63 or M6. So versatile, cheaper than BMW and Merc and yet provides the best value.

Nomenclature is a bit wrong: the "ur-s6" was actually the "ur-s4" when Audi still had the three digit nomenclature system. Then they began using A as the prefix before the class number, after which they changed the name to the "S6". When the first A4/S4 came out, the original S4/100 was then coined by Audifans/Quattro List as the "ur-S4".

Something doesn't add up. The 458 and the S6 supposedly making 580whp lagged that far behind a car supposedly making 600 crank, or perhaps 500whp that weighs more? It's a press car - something tells me it's NOT quite the exact same RS7 you'd get if you ordered one from a dealer. I test drove a brand new RS7 Performance this week. I'm the owner of a modified 2nd generation (not current gen) CTS-V. A wagon as well. The RS7 was nowhere close to the modified CTS-V. Now I know I'm comparing two totally different beasts here. The RS7 was a smooth, quiet, comfortable ride - a tad better than the CTS-V. And the latest technology in the RS7 is light years ahead. But there was an ocean between the performance of the RS7 versus the CTS-V. The RS7 launches really, really hard. So MOST of that shiny 3.3 second 0-60 time comes in the first few feet. Once over 20 or 30mph, it's all over for the RS7. For anyone that's been to an airstrip event, they well know that a TON of built cars will easily beat the RS7 in stock form. None of this is to say that the RS7 isn't an amazing piece of engineering - it IS. But holding it up against cars that often put down 800 to 1000whp and come in at a lower weight is just claiming you can violate the laws of physics. The RS7 is good, but not THAT good.

That S6 could not had 580WHP. That's 720+hp at the crank. That S6 would need to have upgraded turbos, intake, full exhaust, and ecu. So from what I just watched, This RS7 would need about 800hp to clobber it like it did. Perhaps you meant that the S6 had 580CHP. Now that being said....... This thing is BEYOND nuts. It is so underrated. Does it make sense that modified turbos, airflow, and ecu tunes will ONLY add up to 45+hp?? Nope. I can't wait to see this things on a dyno. "Regular RS7's" dyno consistently around 480HP. I'm going to go on a limb and say this thing puts down ~550 at the wheels. As does the new S8 plus.

I promise I'm not trolling, but were there any Teslas out there that day? The other big question I have is how a Hellcat would do if it were driven by someone who really knew what they were doing (e.g., not me). I've seen Hellcats get smoked a lot, but there were almost always driver mistakes. Looked at another way, how would a Hellcat do if it had launch control. I believe it was an auto. Something I realized quite quickly at Shift Sector. Trap speed and getting there first are really different over the half-mile. If it takes you a quarter mile just to put your power down and the other guy rockets ahead of you, the race is lost. Maybe it's my drag racing roots, but getting there first rather than an 18mph higher speed is the ultimate goal.

Not for how / where I was driving it. I'm sure if you pushed the cornering limits on the track it probably would understeer. For how I drove it (not counting the Shift Sector portion) I feel the RS7 Performance is faster is most normal situations where you would have time to put the throttle down.

Fast acceleration straight forward, thanks to AWD, has always been Audi's strength, just like now with Tesla. But if you want a big and powerful sedan with more feel (no numb feedbacks), less understeer and fun in the twisties, then there is only M5. If the "real world" is rain and snow then there are better options than a $140K sedan.

I don't get the fizzles for the M5. I just don't feel passionate about it at all. Straight line speed is fine but it only goes so far. The Tesla while nice isn't an all rounder for me. Right, so the CTS-V costs less, has more HP, more torque, less weight, better handling and a higher top speed. Why would you buy an RS7 again? This car is $140k, the CTS-V is almost literally half as much money and has measurably better performance in every way. Unless you count traction from a dead stop as "performance". Oh, and the CTS-V is faster than the hellcat too. Please note that the CTS-V makes over 100 more lb-ft of torque than the Audi. One thing that needs to be pointed out: In this video, Jason talked about launching and "real world" a great many times. So many times, in fact, that it started to sound like an excuse for the CTS-V being faster, as if he were trying to put the idea into our heads that the RS7 is just going to be faster, and that it "feels" faster (nice objective journalism there Jason) even though the numbers are not on the RS7's side. Yes, AWD and traction are a thing. Yes, the RS7 launches very well and no, it's not slow. But launching well and being fast are two different things, and this is not something that should not have to be explained. If you really wanted to back up those statements, what you would do is put a set of drag radials on a CTS-V, and race it from a stop against the RS7, to eliminate the inherent traction advantages of the RS7. This would be done in order to determine which car is actually faster without using the RS7's superior traction as a crutch. The trap speed will speak the truth regardless (126-127 mph for the CTS-V in the real world so far), but a lot of people are very stupid and believe AWD makes a car "fast". See example: Tesla P90D. Racing from a roll is actually a thing too, and when you go from a roll, traction is not an issue and the CTS-V would win there too. All these things need to be taken into account if you're going to claim that the RS7 "feels" faster. It should be noted that engines like the RS7's 4 liter TT V8 that make considerably more HP than torque do tend to "feel" faster in the same way that VTEC engines "feel" fast. It's because of the power curve and the way the engine is built to make all its power on the top and end build dramatically to it. Where the CTS-V makes almost the same torque as HP and consequently may not "feel" faster, and yet it sure the hell is.
@PrecisionBoost8 жыл бұрын
+Vernon Price I'll address your points. The CTS-V normally equipped is about $90k. Most press vehicles I've been around are $95-98k so it's well above and not "literally" half-priced. But yes the performance figures are similar. The RS-7 Performance can be had at $125k if you so desire as the options that made this one $140k don't really affect performance at all. The CTS-V can be had at $85k so they are more "similarly" priced. You are addressing things from a strictly numbers perspective. My "objective journalism" is that of an opinion teller, not a specifications teller. I don't spit off spec sheets on a whim and I am stating my feelings and opinions of the cars I present. Let's be real, no owner of either car is going to track them (road course) so all of that data is superfluous. Both the CTS-V and RS7 will see normal duties as a daily driver which the owners will occasionally have a highway romp or those who have access will enjoy on the Autobahn. That was my whole premise for this story. 100 lb-ft of torque down from the CTS-V doesn't mean anything to me as the RS7 is very efficient in the terms of power delivery. The whole power delivery for me is why it "feels" faster. I agree with what you say AWD doesn't automatically make a car fast, but power delivery sure does. I'm claiming how the car comes fully stock from the factory, as soon as you put drag radials on anything it's technically modified. I'm sure you can go the ECU tuning route which brings up a completely different argument. Take it for what it's worth. I love the CTS-V and I love the RS7. I have zero brand loyalty and the CTS-V comparison comment was simply for context.

Jason Connor @TerminatorConn Seriously? That's really shitty of you. I'm sorry you can't hold up your end of a discussion, or are too thin-skinned to handle criticism.

Brings out a 900hp 911 to get even ... hilarious .. Let me bring my F-16 , then I can beat your Piper ... I would be thinking twice to bring out that much to beat an RS7 performance ... Some you win, some you loose, deal with it mister super car owner .. Oh an by the way, the trunk of the RS7 was loaded with all the gear for a weeks holiday.

I thought it was funny and a definite use of "one upmanship" (if that's even a word)

Lol the only thing that beats audi launch control is porsche launch control

RxSwolldier Exactly. And considering both are owned by Volkswagen...........

Perfect example as to why Ferrari is overrated! Despite being heavier and having fewer hp than the Ferrari 458, the GTR still wouldn't fall to the RS7, like the Ferrari did. But, still, kudos to Audi.....The RS7 is a beast!

Nice car but 140k.........................
@thainaaier8 жыл бұрын
+Cedric Okoi ... but compare it to a less practical Ferrari or Lamborghini, then the 140K is a bargain for the performance and refinement and usability you get in one single car

+Cedric Okoi I gotta agree.. I wonder what 20K of mods on the CTS-V would do ..
@Okoic12CSP8 жыл бұрын
+Julian M thats what I was thinking. If you want luxury and performance you can grab a CTSV and throw 20k, or if you are more into the performance you can get a hellcat and throw another 20k into it and you still well under a 100k. 140k for a car I just cant fathom, hell my house brand new was 166k lol some perspective

The facelift P90D and P100D can beat the RS7 from 0-60mph and to the 1/4 mile, though. But, still, I love the RS7!
@PrecisionBoost7 жыл бұрын
It'll do it once, maybe twice. Not ALL day over two days, can't beat internal combustion at times.

Jason Connor @TerminatorConn It can do it all the time. Are you sane?
@BradMarchandtheSlewFooter7 жыл бұрын
Depending on battery levels, times will vary.
@tmat047 жыл бұрын
***** While is it true that it depends upon the battery level, a Tesla P100D is still a 10 seconds car with 50% charge (or even slightly less that). That means a P100D can still toast an RS7 in a drag race, with 50% battery charge.

And this RS7 is bone stock. Image with some performance mods in there? It would have given the 911 a run for it's money
