8th grader here and first time doing percussion, today parts were announced and I got rack and I was so disappointed, but now I watch this and I’m no longer disappointed at all!

This video confirms my theory that BK percussion writing is incredibly well done - the focus is on the texture and how it adds to the ensemble. That being said, Air Waltz is one heck of a part to play.

4:47 Bass mallet incoming!
@mvl82092 жыл бұрын
4:47 did someone throw that Bass drum mallet, and you caught it? Or was it hanging somewhere? Hard to see with the speed! 7:50 why do you do the roll on both sides of the gong? I was taught it's best to do it on the front. Does the sound change, or is it easier to get volume out of it by doing both sides? I've been a percussionist for ~14 years and my switching between sticks isn't nearly as smooth as yours! Great job!

Thanks! I’m the rack player from the video. Yeah, a vibe player threw that mallet at 4:47. A fun little easter egg I think I ended up playing the the tam tam that way because it was more comfortable to communicate with the rest of the front ensemble in that position. Glad you enjoyed it!

Also tell that vibe player good job with the throw ;) About the tamtam, makes sense!

Why dont you give this guy a throne to me it seems like it's like a drumset but standing
@joshuaestrada60424 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt it be easier for him to have the throne maybe
@willieburke13344 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaestrada6042 It largely depends on what he's actually playing; this music isn't very groove-based and has more of a concert feel for most of the show, so a drum set wouldn't be very applicable, as well as all the trips back and forth to the bass and gong, not having a throne saves precious seconds in transition time.

why do those hand crash cymbals sound do terrible
@LuckyOwI7776 жыл бұрын
Because the sound gets slightly distorted through his go-pro camera. that was made to record good videos, not so much audio.

That bass drum sounds awful
@nathanreno-winters87328 жыл бұрын
It's the compression of the microphone and the fact that it's outside. You hear the attack, but the sound is lost incredibly fast because of the acoustic environment.
