THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS AMAZING VIDEO HERE. 10 minutes drive from where I live there are farm land growing canola. I almost go there every year taking pictures on side of the road and use them as screen saver and background. This is my first time i see the spectacular aerial canola field video like this and it shocked me. it will be tough year for canadian canola farmers since the ban from china. I dont care what behind the ban I strongly support our hard working alberta farmers who feed our country and the whole world. they deserve much better treatments and support from government as it is so vital to our economy other than oil and gas. without farmers here who will feed us. best wishes to you guys and go alberta farmers go.....

What's the Difference Between Canola and Rapeseed Oils? In the 1970s canola was created through traditional plant cross-breeding by removing two things found in the rapeseed plant: glucosinolates and erucic acid. Erucic acid was removed because it was believed to be inedible or toxic in high doses. The newly developed plant was renamed "canola" - a combination of "Canadian" and "Oil" (or ola) to make this difference apparent. By definition, if a seed is labeled "canola" it has to have less than 30 micromoles of glucosinolates and less than 2% of erucic acid.

Explanation was enlightening , thank you . In india it is mainly rapeseed.

Did I see right? You harvested canola with Shelbourne stripping header? I'm very curious -- how did it go? I mean, didn't it generate too many grain losses?
@farmboy5428 жыл бұрын
Curious how well the stripper header worked. I'm not completely familiar with how they work but there seems to be a lot of crop movement in front of it which may cause loss.
@AJMSeeds8 жыл бұрын
Kevin Campschroer it seems to work fairly well. In that field was a couple hybrids and there was also a non pod shatter hybrid as well. That hybrid did not like the stripper header. Figured that there was about 15-20 bushels loss there. When comparing the stripper header against the straight cut header, customer never saw any differences as far as header losses. But the stripper header used half the fuel and he was able to travel twice as fast. There are a few people are in the area using stripper headers in canola.

cant imagine how stressful those farmers are now. regarding to the case of detained hawei cfo, there is nothing to do with alberta hard working farmers however the canola ban hit those farmers hard and its just the begining. and so the pig farmers, soybean farmers as well and whats the next in line. we , all canadians should stand up and fight back with same way to protect our interests and values.

I'm not from america and im intrested in why you first maw it and then come back to pick up the rows to thresh the already mawn cqnola? And what is canola? Is it the plant that is yellow in spring time? And by the way in what rythm do you harvest? Seems to be dry every time of the year...
@AJMSeeds8 жыл бұрын
Hoerne 53 thank you for your questions, and your interest. Canola is a oil seed plant that is mostly used to produce oil. It can be used for cooking or in biodiesel production. In our area it is seeded April/May and harvested August/September. During the flower stage it will be yellow. For most part in our area it is swathed since we can get winds that will damage the pods and the seeds drop to ground. But with newer hybrids, it has better pod shatter so it can handle shattering better, that's why you see some straight cut. Hope that answers most of your questions. Thanks again

AJM Seeds Thank you very much! It answered most of my questions but I've decided, that one day I will visit the USA or Canada to understand those things :D I'm from Germany and feel very bad for all those bad pronounciation and all but most words fell in order after I wrote the comment. I'm not that much off a dumb person otherwise ;) Here in Germany the agriculture is much smaller but not less modern. We are just a bit downsized in comparison to your mass of lands and number of vehicles and machinery and how big those machines are. I'm from a farm too here in Germany and the biggest Tractor we have has 230 PS (hp) and then 2 other ones and some farm based machines and only one harvester for all our Land. (Mostly and luckily John Deere ;) ) (I really like John Deere) So its amazing you make these videos so that blokes like me can warch them and become speechless about just everything. Thank You really much!

AJM Seeds Ohh and we just Plant Maize(for Silage(feeding cows)), rape, barley, wheat, oats (only just a bit for the horses) and rye. So thats why I dont know canola or soya and all that stuff... I dont really know why we dont have it but Ill never find out I guess xD
@AJMSeeds8 жыл бұрын
Ha ha. That's no problem with your language. Im from Canada and I still struggle. One thing about your other comment, you grow rape. Rape is basically canola. Now I am not 100% sure if its exactly canola with a different name like maize and corn, or if there is a bit of a difference in the two plants. That I should know, but I am not sure.

Why did u swath some and then not swath other
@joshforresta6 жыл бұрын
probably depending on how ripe the crop is. Some of the fields may have been less ripe around harvest so they swathed those ones and left the others.
@LonewolfeE56 жыл бұрын
I'm under the assumption that this isn't just one person's crop. Seemed like a few different fields with a few different owners maybe?
@zeusmacafee50977 жыл бұрын
Why do u make windrowws then use the harvester instead of a grain head. Also why the truck with the auger unloading into the semi. Why not use the combine to unload directly . I live in the US and have never seen that
@AJMSeeds7 жыл бұрын
Zeus Macafee Around here most is swathed for a few reasons. We do have a lot of wind and in the past, the canola would shell out if left too long and got too ripe. There are now newer hybrids coming out that have better pod shatter to help reduce those losses. Also if the crop had greener area, it will help with dry down.
@AJMSeeds7 жыл бұрын
Zeus Macafee also, it is more efficient to run grain carts through the field to collect the grain instead of running the semi through the field or run the combine to the semi. And that will reduce compaction

How much of the area of Alberta is used for farming? I looked a map of Canada and there seems to be allot of lakes so not allot of room really left for farms. I would love to live in Alberta and have my own land with a eco type house built there away from the crowded towns & noise & pollution we get now in the UK. But if there all this farming, I could not live there if the chance came, As I would need peace and no lights for my astronomy?

I was thinking about the field tramlines, what a waste of crop! Could you not try spraying crops using a hovercraft designed to spray the fields using a on board big tank and spray arms, this would if done right fly over the ground and crops without crushing them? Saving the normally crushed tramline crops! Also I wonder why someone has not made a bale wrap made of bio-gradable corn starch which would not only be able to sit outside for some time but save you from having the take off the wrap when feeding the cows as it is corn based and the cows could eat it too? I use corn starch based food waste bags at home and they are like plastic so water proof for a long time so a wrap of 3 or 4 layers on a bale be very good for outside storage! Better for the eco system and the money saving.
